  1. The GP are not a myth. They keep the parks in business. I don't expect them to know as much about the industry as we do. We shouldn't. However, I do think it's ok to laugh at stuff they say. It's funny, while I understand they can't be expected to know otherwise. I'm perfectly fine with people who enjoy other hobbies laughing at what I say... The GP isn't stupid (in most cases), but that thread is always going to be hilarious, and there's nothing wrong with that.
  2. Whether it was a family coaster or a thrill ride is irrelevant. Regardless of style there are certain things that take away from a coaster's overall experience. One of those is a giant dead spot right in the middle of the ride. Now I don't know if there was any difference from when the ride first opened to when I rode it, but I remember feeling like I had hit the final brakes halfway through the ride and in my book that means there is no way that this ride could be "great" as so many consider it to be. Great means nearly/completely flawless. The train nearly coming to a complete stop in the middle of the layout definitely is a pretty considerable flaw. Now I don't doubt that this coaster has a pretty considerable nostalgia factor, that being said, if these coasters weren't so rare these days, I seriously doubt that everyone would be giving this coaster such praise. Especially with the way in which it's big thrilling conclusion was neutered. Just my two cents, take them or leave them. I'll take them, you have a good point. However I was more referring to the complaints about how thrilling the ride is, such as "The first half is too slow" or "The trims ruined the finale". But yes, I agree, coming to a complete stop does greatly diminish the ride.
  3. I think we need to agree on what it was supposed to be in order to judge it properly. As a thrill ride, no, it wasn't that great. As a family ride, it definitely was. Just like Cheetah Hunt.
  4. If I had unlimited money, I would run for my life before the "occupy wall street" protestors killed me. But all jokes aside, some decent ideas I've thought of or heard mentioned so far: 1. Pay off the national debt 2. Do all the other charitable things that I can think of 3. Restart the Shuttle Program, or get the replacement program moving faster 4. Build a home/amusement park for my family, friends, or other events 5. Travel the world and get all of my "bucket list" credits 6. As others have said, go on EVERY TPR trip. 7. Get whatever treatment/therapy I would need to be able to ride coasters into my 90's.
  5. ^^^^I had always thought the "Towering Coaster" was RCT3's attempt at a eurofighter. I can't believe it's real!
  6. I still don't understand how the ride operated like that for years without incident, but then all of a sudden two injuries happen in a row and they call it quits. Although I can't really blame them because I certainly wouldn't want to deal with lawsuits, and a ride with the reputation of hurting people. It's not their fault that people can't listen to instructions (no loose articles), but a pain in the donkey for them none the less.
  7. It might as well stand for that, because that ride is all about Airtime. However I think it's just there because it's much easier to pronounce "NTAG" than to pronounce it without the A
  8. Haha! This has been an issue at my home park. Things I've heard people call Valleyscare: "Valleyscream" "Valley of Scare" "Valleyscares" "Scare-fair" "Valleyscary" "Halloweekends" (Granted, they did run halloweekends back in the early 2000's, so I give them a pass on that one)
  9. One thing I hate is that parks just can't win on facebook. If they announce a thrill ride, they get pissed off moms talking about how they "Definitely won't be renewing their season passes", and if they announce a family addition, teens go complaining about how it's "lame". If nothing is announced at all, they get complaining from both sides. Now for a random quote from someone on Valleyfair's facebook: (I swear this is un-edited- copied and pasted haha) "Hay i have an idiea for you can you do somthing with the big train when i rided it i had a headack because the tracks where squekee well also you should rebild the hiroler in the future and yould should also retar the parking lot with permient spots marked on the spot for season pass holders and you should get somthing that they can put on thair dashbort saing that they are a season pass holde"
  10. I think most people on here are happy that they're getting this ride. It's just that nobody knows why the park would build this... I'm really excited about the first B&M Giga being built, but I'm definitely in the group that doesn't get the point of CW installing this particular ride.
  11. Lifetime passes would be a bad idea because the parks would lose a ton of money. Plus, given the legal climate here, I can only image the stuff people would try. For example: "Im older, therefore I have less life ahead of me, so I shouldn't have to pay as much as young people". Besides, how would you price a lifetime pass? If it's priced high enough to not cost the park tons of money, people won't buy it. If it's low enough for people to buy it, the park gets ripped off.
  12. It's also supposedly going to be part indoor, part outdoor. I think they're using 3 of the picnic shelters. Let's all pray that it doesn't flood...
  13. The only ride that scares me anymore is the SCAD tower. I love them though, so hopefully I'll have the chance to ride one again sometime, not in the ghetto that is extreme world...
  14. In Your Eyes- Peter Gabriel
  15. Chance Yo-yo's do this all the time... If it's safe 50 feet in the air, it's safe 300 feet in the air. If it's a safety concern, the park will shut it down and fix the issue. Even if the cars are bumping, they aren't hitting hard enough to injure people, and swaying back and forth a tad isn't going to suddenly make it possible for the cars to fall off. All of these "OMG I'M NEVER RIDING WINDSEEKER" comments sound like something we'd expect to hear from the gp. No offense
  16. I almost feel that not giving it the NTAG treatment is worse than just taking it down. Conventional retracking, even if it works, will only buy them a few years, and it's already got a bad reputation with both enthusiasts and the GP. If I were in charge of this, I'd say completely overhaul the thing, and market it as a practically new attraction. Bring back the loop, and add a few airtime hills, and do something about the boring helixes. I'm sure management will do what they think is best for the ride, (or at least, best for the park), and I don't claim to know better than them. But seriously, I feel like trying to put more duct tape on the thing is a waste of money in the long run. Re-design and re-introduce it, or scrap it.
  17. ^If that is true, it tells me that they probably aren't looking at a NTAG-esque revamp. Saying that what they are going to do is it's "last shot" points to another patch job of sorts. Retracking, maybe a tad bit of re-profiling, etc. If they were doing an iron horse treatment, they wouldn't be wondering about whether it will work or not.
  18. My absolute favorite drop ride (and favorite of every ride I've experienced) is the SCAD tower (if that counts). Otherwise, I love the Intamin 1st gen freefalls. On the subject of drop rides, I personally don't care for the S&S turbo drops. Because of the downward force, it feels too controlled and less intense than a true freefall to me. I enjoy them, but I just don't find them to be as good. The space shots are great though.
  19. Little House by The Fray
  20. At Valleyfair yesterday, I overheard the following statement: "...yeah, apparently we're under a hurricane warning right now..." VF is in Minnesota. Fail.
  21. It's probably because of these two reasons, to sum this up: 1. Americans often feel that they are not responsible for their own safety, which is more for a park to deal with 2. The amusement industry is probably more regulated here, and while there is not necessarily a restriction on how many ops are needed, the restraint requirements and the procedures for checking them call for extra staff in order to keep decent dispatch times.
