Amusement Park Commercials
dippindotsguy8 replied to alpengeistfan1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cedar fair seems to basically use the same footage for every park's ads. Then they just change the voice over and stats, such as "eight roller coasters" and "Over 75 rides and attractions." I find it annoying because at Valleyfair people ask where the "red coaster that hangs below the tracks and seats four-across" (silver bullet) is that they saw in the commercial. As much as I hate it, I'm sure it saves them a crapton of money. Plus I'd rather they make/save a buck that way than do the coaster train ad wraps. -
1. Disaster Transport. Sure it's not necessarily one of the best rides there, but I really enjoyed it for some reason. 2. Excalibur at Valleyfair. Not sure why but there's something i just love about this ride (aside from the fact that it's almost always a walk-on, no matter how busy the park is). I really wish I was around back in '89 when it opened so I could experience it before the trims and with the extra ejector hill. 3. Ghostrider. I had heard all kinds of crap about it from people, but I rode it anyways just for the credit. Wasn't smooth as glass, sure, but it definitely was enjoyable. 4. Every boomerang I've ridden so far. I've been on 3 now, and I don't get why everyone hates them! The return trip in the back seats is super intense. The most common complaint I've heard is roughness, but I've never had a problem with it as long as I lean at the right times during the cobra roll. Sure, they aren't really special considereing how many there are, but they aren't terrible either. 5. Viper at SFMM. Again, searching for the roughness people talk about. Just learn where the lateral pumps are and keep your head back during the back-to-back loops, and you'll be fine.

My favorite is Sunkist, or any other orange pop. Cream soda is a very close second though.

Best American B&M Inverted coaster
dippindotsguy8 replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've only ridden four of these, but of those, here's how I rank them 1. Montu (by FAR) 2. Raptor 3. Silver bullet (very weak, but at least more interesting/unique than Patriot) 4. Patriot. Maybe with more speed this ride would have been good, but I'm not sure... -
Roughest coaster

1. Hades (just in the last couple seasons) 2. Mean Streak 3. Timber Wolf -
I just went to her concert on Saturday night, and it's amazing how many people had their kids there. They were well outnumbered by teenagers (also a pretty big market for things like this, I'd imagine - especially around the city and Long Island), but they were still there, singing and taking pictures and loving it all. Oh, well, I guess maybe it could work then. Not sure I would invest in it, but yes, stranger things have happened.

^That's another issue. Families are kinda the biggest market for amusement/theme parks right now. Much of Lady GaGa's act is not really appropriate for younger kids, which will make it hard to reach that market. I'm willing to bet that if you asked a handfull of parents if they would take their family to a Lady GaGa park, the majority of them would say no. No offense to GaGa fans. But it's similar to the enthusiasts vs general public deal with parks. As much as some of us would love more intense coasters, the general public isn't ready for them, and because they are the larger portion of the attendance base, that's what companies need to appeal to in order to be successful. I'm not saying she couldn't open a park. I just think that opening a park that's main theme is her and her music would not be the smartest idea in the long run.

However, the rides at Dollywood aren't all about her. The park isn't particularly themed to her. Gagaland sounds like it would be themed to Gaga and her music videos. I'm not saying she couldn't run a theme park in ten years, but if it's heavily themed to Lady Gaga, it could lose popularity over time.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

^At Valleyfair, people always ask where the Flume is, and they don't respond well when we explain that it was removed two years ago for the wave pool. -
B&M vs Intamin
dippindotsguy8 replied to alpengeistdude321's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
From a rider standpoint, I'd have to say Intamin. Their rides are getting more and more intense, and B&M's are getting less and less forceful. If I were a park owner, however, I'd much rather own and maintain a B&M. Intamins have so many technical issues. I used be a big B&M fan, when all I had ridden was Raptor, Montu, Kumba, etc. Now that I've experienced their newer, less intense rides such as Silver Bullet and Patriot, I find Intamin to be the better company. I wish that B&M would get back in touch with their old-school style, because they have designing rides down to a science. They're very reliable, and they are very re-rideable. It's just that lots of the new stuff isn't really worth waiting in long lines for anymore. Fun, but not intense. -
More indoor rides please.....

I wish that parks would enclose more spin n' puke rides. Doing so takes an already intense ride and makes it crazy if good effects are added. Cyclone Sams is amazing. -

Haha, If CF and SF merged, they'd either fail miserably, or become an unstoppable force. I'm not sure which at the moment. -
The Boomerang Challenge
dippindotsguy8 replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Haha Honestly, the thing I like about boomerangs (at least the ones I've ridden) is the major force you get in the back seat during the backwards portion of the ride. Mostly on the vertical loop. If it wasn't for the roughness and the ear-bashing, they would actually be great rides. Good concept, bad execution -

^What the heck? That's some great service.... I work in foods, and here's the question that at least one person asks at the end of every night-- "Hey how 'bout you give me some free food!" To which I respond, "No, I'm sorry that I'm not able to do that. If you want something, I have to charge you full price for it". Then, regardless of the fact that I'm the one who's been trained and has worked there for several seasons, they try to tell me why I'm wrong. I usually get a response like "No, you should because its late at night and you're just going to have to throw it out anyways." Then after I explain it again, they usually say "(insert name of random park here) does it!". My favorite response to that one is "this isn't (name of park mentioned)". -

I took my first trip to Knott's a few weeks ago, and I too had heard horror stories about Ghostrider. I rode it anyways, just to get the credit, and it really wasn't bad at all. It was one of my favorite rides there.
