  1. Looks like I have to go back to Gröna Lund, even though I visited the park in both 2006 and 2007. I rode Kirnu in 2007 and it was just ridicilously fun. Like it was mentioned a few post above, you certainly get that 'oh crap' feeling as you approach the edge, but once you go over you just cant stop laughing.
  2. Me and my friend had a few incidents at SFGADV last summer. The first one was when we decided to get a few shots of Kingda Ka from the parking lot. It probably only took a minute before a security car puller over and said we couldnt take pictures or video from the parking lot. I cant say it bothered me that much though, as it was pretty much as expected. The second one was a bit stranger. We spent two days in the park and at the end of day two we were standing underneath the first drop of B:TR when a security guard came over to me and said that you could not record the rollercoasters, only take pictures. I wanted to ask why he was the first one to say anything inside the park during those two days, but as I had covered pretty much everything and I didnt want my tape confiscated I decided to keep the reply to 'okay'.

  4. For me its the night rides on El Toro and Nitro in june. Both rides were flying, particularly El Toro. The final turns felt like they were taken way too fast!
  5. Got a chance to visit the US this year and I definately agree with you on that point. It just seemed like it was designed to run faster. I found both Storm Runner and Nitro to be way better rides. Seems like it might have had a 'bad season'.... Im not surprised to see EK and Thunderbird so high on the list. They are identical coasters and Thunderbird was absolute flying in 07. Its probably my second favorite wood coaster after El Toro. Should be higher in my opinion, cause I think I like it even better than Phoenix and Dash, although it is a close race.
  6. That effect can already be experienced at a much greater distance from the tower on some Intamin towers. Drop Zone
  7. Hehe you should check out my SFGADV video. Every single outdoor ride was closed for 90 mins due to some "truly awful" weather. I think I got one single drop of water on me during that time, and the only thunder we could hear was faaaaaaaaaaaaar, faaaaaaaaaaaar away.... Another thing that bugs me are people sitting on the railings and gates in the station and ignoring the ride-ops telling them to step down.
  8. You already have an Eurofighter in Mystery Mine at Dollywood. You also have Steel Hawg which is the only one of its kind, and it also looks way better than the Screamin Squirrels.
  9. I rode Kirnu last year and it was an amazing experience. One of the weirdest, most intense and most fun coasters I have ever been on. The only downside was the extreme short length, but with Insane being twice as long it should really be something special. I visited Gröna Lund in 2006 and 2007, but now I really want to go back!
  10. When I rode it this summer I really got the feeling that it needed new trains, because it was running awfully slow for being a world-class coaster. Like my friend said on the previous page, it was barely a top ten coaster. Hopefully they wont staple the riders so bad with the new restraints, because the ride-ops on Superman were doing their best to kill the fun this summer. I cant remember experiencing any bad stapling on El Toro.
  11. Ride-ops who feels that its necessary to put their entire weight on the restraints. It was the case with pretty much all the ride-ops on SROS @ SFNE when I rode it this summer, which took away a lot of the fun.
  12. I agree. Its actually my favorite steel coaster due to its extreme intensity. I found it to be a much better ride than SROS, which was a huge letdown, but I understand that I might have hit it on a bad day. Im happy to see Nitro up there though because its a truly fantastic ride in my opinion. As for the wooden coasters I have ridden, El Toro, Phoenix and Boulder Dash seems to be where they belong, although maybe not in that order. Thunderbird deserves to be higher in my opinion. I cant understand why Lightning Racer is doing so high on the list as its more like a giant family coaster compared to many of the other coasters on the list.
  13. So what did those who were able to ride the chinese SLC think about the ride? Im very curious as it has some of the most messed up track I have ever seen. http://rcdb.com/ig2906.htm?picture=7
  14. Atleast they didnt write a "Are themeparks dangerous?" story...
  15. The last tunnel on Superman Ride of Steel (SFNE). It was filled with mist during our visit so you couldnt see anything. It was also really hot outside so it felt really cold in the tunnel.
  16. Superman Ride of Steel (SFNE) can be quite uncomfortable on your crotch, particularly when the ride-ops put their entire weight on the restraint (which they all did on every single ride during my visit).
  17. El Toro is by far the best coaster I have ever ridden (wood or steel) so its an easy pick for me. Heres my full list: El Toro Nitro Batman The Ride Kingda Ka Medusa Superman Ultimate Flight Great American Scream Machine Rolling Thunder (left side was actually pretty fun) Skull Mountain Runaway Mine Train Dark Knight Blackbeard's Lost Treasure Train
  18. I love both companies for different reasons. Intamin built my two favorite coasters, El Toro and Storm Runner. I love those rides for their raw intensity. Tornado at Särkänniemi was also a great experience. On the other hand, Superman Ride of Steel (SFNE) was a HUGE letdown and Colossus at Thorpe Park was just plain rough. When it comes to B&M's, I have yet to experience a bad ride. Not all of their rides are worth remembering for long, but some of them are amazing. Nitro is my favorite B&M. The way you are floating between the seat and the restraint over the hills is just amazing. Its small neighboor is also close to perfection and is comparable to Intamins best rides when it comes to intensity. Built in 93, this B:TR clone is still smooth as glass. Superman la Attracion de Acero and Katun are also worth mentioning as great rides. For me its hard to say which company I like better. Some days I really want to experience the raw intensinty of El Toro and Storm Runner, while some days I just think about how awesome it would be to spend all day relaxing on Nitro.
  19. Wildcat was pretty rough when I rode it in june. Ive heard that its much better with the GCI trains so I dont really want to think about what it was like with the old trains. As for Great American Scream Machine, I didnt think it was bad at all. One bump right before the second loop, but apart from that it wasnt painfull at all. We rode in the front of the 6th car so it might be worse in other seats. The roughest coaster on our trip was probably Cyclone @ SFNE. Its the only coaster where I have been happy for trim brakes.
  20. 1. Batman la Fuga (wins on better theming) 2. Batman the Ride (SFGADV) 3. Katun 4. Nemesis Inferno 5. Great Bear Those are the only 5 Ive been on.
  21. Lets hope it doesnt valley in the cobra roll as they havent installed the evacuation tower.
  22. For me its easily El Toro. Even early in the day, it was ridiciolously fast. And by night it was even crazier. I have never been on a coaster which feels so alive. It doesnt feel like its rolling, it feels like the train is deciding how fast it wants to go. And it wants to go fast!! In fact, El Toro was so good that when we rode Superman (SFNE) a few days later our first thoughts were "Thats it?".
  23. My list changed quite a bit after my US trip. Now I think it look something like this: Steel: 1. Storm Runner 2. Nitro 3. Superman; Ride of Steel (SFNE) 4. Wild Train (Erlebnispark Strasswalchen) 5. Batman la Fuga Wood: 1. El Toro 2. Thunderbird 3. Boulder Dash 4. Balder 5. Phoenix
  24. I dont understand why Vekoma didnt learn more from some of their earlier coasters. Megablitz @ Prater Park was built by Vekoma in 94 and designed by Stengel, and it was smooth as glass when I rode it in 2005.
