Gröna Lund Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to Tobias94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is the other side of having a park in a city. Linnanmäki has to deal with this kind of issues every time before building a new ride. Some local residents (we call them "flower-hat wearing ladies" ) even have complained about noise and Linnanmäki had to install mufflers in their Space Shot. Also there is a requirement from the city of Helsinki, that the city silhouette must remain unchanged when viewed from a certain location. I have also heard a rumor, that the Space Shot in Linnanmäki is disguised as a radio tower in the citys official records! -
Fastest Lift Hill?
Anac0nda replied to bonsaiisuperstar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How about Tornado at Bakken, the Intamin "prototype" spinner with a double chain lift. Doesn't it almost launch through the lift to keep the pacing through the low layout? Looks pretty launch-y to me. (Also, I want to ride this! It's a shame they have limited its use.) -
Best Coaster Layouts
Anac0nda replied to Randomman295's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The more compact, the more I like! Possibly because living here in northern Europe, parks don't have that much money or space (I'm looking at you Gröna Lund ) to build mega rides, they have to make every square meter count. I believe Schwarzkopf Jet Stars capture this idea. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5OM-2bTq-4g Apparently it was the time for the old petting zoo to step out and make room for the parks next installment: Doghill (Koiramäki in Finnish), which here in Finland is a famous childrens book series by Mauri Kunnas. It features humanized dogs and other animals in various settings, such as Finnish folklores, but mainly focuses in living in a Finnish farm in the 19th century. As said, it will be where the petting zoo was, but due to the nature of the theme, some animals will stay (click the link to see there will be a stable). Also, the parks dark ride was removed to make room for Angry Birds Land, but there's a line in the video saying: "Eek! Will you dare to enter Drakkula's castle?" referring to a child-friendly ghost book in the Doghill series (which happens to be my favourite from my childhood). I have a hunch this will be a great investment! While similar to AB Land (being Finnish theme and all), I prefer this as this is more "real-like" and not "plastic-ish", if you know what I mean .

Hucklebuckle Heights [RCT3]
Anac0nda replied to Skysthelimit's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
This looks quite nice! I like the layouts and the Neptune's Knot entrance is just magical! Just some coasters might need some better supporting, but I guess that comes with experience and time. Also I hope to see as much attention put to the pathways connecting these great rides, like food and game stalls. A great start, keep it up! (And I also like that this isn't another Six Flags replica ) -

I like the wooden inverted and I'd like to see the whole layout! By judging from the beginning, I guess it'll be somewhat Nemesis inspired? -
Just finished watching the steels of Raw 7, soon beginning with the woodies! It amazed me how fast Leviathan just literally flies through its course Also I'll probably never get used to the teeny-weeny overbank on Shock, and the little single X-car hauling along the huuuuge track looks funny to me Thank you for making these videos! Thanks for taking your time in the parks to film these when you could just actually ride the rides (I know that's what I would do)!

Wow that's pretty! To be honest, even after Bluefire and Helix, I still wasn't quite sure about the whole MACK megacoaster -thing. But now seeing this it made me realize that MACK has a hit in their hands. And if the trains and track continue to stay as comfortable and awesome as Bluefire (according to everyone who has ridden it) I could see a great future for this new type of coasters.

Best words I have ever read on TPR, thank you Robb! You are very welcome here I'm really hoping I make it to Scandi Trip and maybe give some "local tips" or at least humor you guys with the finnish language -
Camelot Theme Park UK Closes Forever
Anac0nda replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If Knightmare rides anywhere close to its brother in Gröna Lund, it has to be relocated instead of scrapped! Greatness should not be removed from the world. Also, hopefully it'll stay in Europe to increase my chances of riding it -
The Off-Season Survival Thread
Anac0nda replied to ernierocker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Living here in Finland means the off-season is veeeeeryyyyy looooooong Last year I survived by planning a trip to Sweden and this year I'll probably use the same method. Only this time to Denmark, Tivoli Gardens and Bakken/BonBon Land. Also my large photo collection and Robb's amazing POV collection will help to overcome the worst moments. -

We've just started to talk about a trip to Denmark next summer with my friends, and this is good news! I'm already excited about Daemonen and the freakishly tall Star Flyer, but a Zamperla Air Race! I imagine it will be a somewhat similar ride to HUSS Flic Flac. Anyone got experience on either? -

2012-- What was your highlight?
Anac0nda replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My highlight was our 4-day trip to Sweden, Gröna Lund and Liseberg Twister, Insane, Fritt Fall Tilt, Lisebergbanan, Balder and the primal AtmosFEAR, which currently sits on top of my best rides -list -
What was your first B&M Coaster?
Anac0nda replied to thrillseeker4552's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mine was also Silver Star, I think it was 2004. Since then I've only ridden Dragon Khan too, so no big scores for me... But I may just get a chance to add Daemonen to my list next year... -

Linnanmäki replaces their Ghost train for something new, but I highly doubt it will be anything but a new Ghost train. -
Linnanmäki Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to Andrew643's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The legendary Ghost Train has been dismantled, only the roof of the building and the concrete foundings are left. Covering the building site are large sheets saying something similar to "Under funstruction". I've heard and witnessed that some/most of the animatronics inside had seen better days. Rumor also states that the old Ghost Train is just being replaced with a new one. Hopefully this 'facelift' will be a success like Blå Tåget at Gröna Lund, and not end up as a shooting ride. While I do like shooting dark rides, I'd just like to see a classic one at my home park. Oh yeah, and this week is the Carnival of Lights, meaning the park is open 17-22 every day until the season finale on Sunday. All the rides will have lights on (obviously) but there are also added lights and themed actors around the park. But what is by far the best thing is that they FINALLY have music playing in some of the rides, like the HUSS Booster and TopSpin! -
Gröna Lund Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to Tobias94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A Starflyer in exchange for a Top Scan? That leaves an opening for a scrambler/inverting flat ride. While Extreme wasn't the best flat ride I've ridden, it still belonged in Gröna Lund and completed the ride list. And another tower ride? I thought having the S&S Shot and Fritt Fall was already pushing it. I only hope the Starflyer isn't higher than Fritt Fall, that would totally diminish it. Let's just hope Gröna Lund will add another inverting flat, like Fabbri Pegasus. -
Liseberg Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to viking86's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, if they're going to cut down half of the lovely forest that covers the hill, better do it with a good... no... a GREAT reason! I watched the video before reading this and the second launch blew_my_mind. If this truely is a mix between Lisebergbanan and Blue Fire (as it seems), we might have to invent a new word for such epicness! Oh yeah, and sign me up for the Scandi trip as well! -
I really like your style of building, and it's also pretty close to mine. I love that your rides are interacting with each other and some placements like the Chairswing and the Enterprise are the best ones possible! It doesn't take much to build a "parking lot" styled park where everything is just cookie-cuttered and placed without further thought. What you have done is put some actual thought about the flow of the park. I'm really interested in this and I'd like to see more of this and of your other work as well!

Favorite Coaster Sounds
Anac0nda replied to TheAmazingCP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
- Log Flumes' lift hill anti-rollbacks - Schwarzkopf Jet Star 1 (just like the one at Särkänniemi) has numerous anti-rollbacks, and with many cars on the track simultaneously, they can be heard almost constantly! Also when a car passes through one of the three ground-hugging curves next to the station, they all have a distinctive sound. The ride also makes a whole lot of other noises (vibrating and such) and I love them all - Riding AtmosFEAR at Liseberg: first some aggressive cursing by the local language (swedish) here and there. Then about halfway up: complete silence. I laughed so hard (well, as much as I could from my own excitement)!
