Linnanmäki Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to Andrew643's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Another Facebook update by the park: "One can hardly call it the Pit anymore. We're eagerly waiting for the publishing!" This is starting to look a LOT like a tower ride. The park already has a Space Shot, a panoramic tower ride and two kiddie towers, so are there any other tower rides than a Star Flyer and a freefall tower? I'm still hoping for the latter, as awesome as AtmosFear at Liseberg, but only time will tell. Maybe it could have a station as awesome as in Tivoli Gardens' Star Flyer? Also I've heard some rumors about the press release being on Valentine's Day. -

That would certainly be something! It would also be the first Gerstlauer in Finland. Let's hope this becomes reality with a kick-ass custom layout! I agree that while Thunderbird is awesome, the rest of the coasters just don't measure up to it, and after a few years of family or not-so-intense rides this would be a good one for the thrill riders! -
Fastest Lift Hill?
Anac0nda replied to bonsaiisuperstar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah I'd say Tornado at Bakken. I tried to tell my friends that the lift is fast but oh my goodness! Even I was totally unprepared with that shotgun launch at the top and it took me half the ride to recover, but in a good way! Needless to say I re-rode it, twice, while only one of my friends joined me all the way. I'm really happy I got to ride it -
Visually Awe Inspiring Coasters

The norwegian loop on Speed Monster wrapped around the entrance-escalators to the park. -
What was your favorite ride of 2013?
Anac0nda replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My top three are all from my trip to Denmark: 1. Tornado - Bakken. That thing is just insanely intense! And fun! If your stomach can handle it, I suggest you ask the operator to spin the car as it leaves the station. Was not disappointed. 2. Vertigo - Tivoli Gardens. Those who have ridden it know what I'm talking about. Pure madness! 3. Daemonen - Tivoli Gardens. Can't go wrong with B&M no matter what the size. -

A new update in Facebook: "Even the strongest winds cannot tip The Pit, so it should be ready next summer! I wonder what will The Pit look like in a few weeks?" Interesting that they capsized The Pit... But it could also be the project they're calling it. If the concrete mold in the picture is the only one that there's going to be, it really narrows down the possibilities what it will be. Given the narrow space it was clear though that this wasn't going to be a giant ride of any sort - if even a ride at all. Still crossing my fingers for a good drop tower! But Linnanmäki also has to negotiate with the city when building big/tall rides, as they can't have the city's skyline change too much. I've heard that because of this the Space Shot is disguised as a "radio tower" in official documents and that the SkyLoop was planned to three different locations before it was accepted by the city. -
Well, I can help with that: Linnanmäki (Finland) has a HUSS Booster Park Index Bobbejaanland (Belgium) has a HUSS Fly Away Park Index Tivoli Gardens (Denmark) has a Zamperla Air Race Photo TR Wasalandia (Finland) has a Zamperla Super Spin Link. Altough these examples exist, I had no trouble picturing them in a park. It's ride that lack in safety and/or comfort that don't exist outside travelling fairs. Tagada and Zipper I think have these covered (altough I have yet to ride them). Also what I think matters is the general ride area, operator's booth and the fencing around them. For example the Enterprise seen in the Mexico TR that had absolutely no fences almost hurt my brain. There's just no way a park could ever do such a thing.

Linnanmäki Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to Andrew643's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Linnanmäki has just uploaded a new photo to their FB saying: "A hibernating Linnanmäki? Nope! Construction for the next season has already started and you can see the updates in Facebook." The photo is from where the junior bumper cars used to be (and until 2009 a HUSS Rainbow). It clearly shows a large hole dug in the ground, but if you look close enough, I think I can just make out a square-ish concrete block in the center. My fingers are crossed for a new ride of course, maybe even a drop tower! But we'll have to wait and see. It could also be something other than a ride. -
Liseberg's Helix. It's so impressive that even my non-coaster-riding friends are amazed and want to see it up close! They also loved the whole park when we last visited in 2012, so it was decided last April that we'll re-visit Liseberg in August 2014. I'm also waiting eagerly what the Finnish parks (Linnanmäki, Särkänniemi and Power Park) will conjure for the next season.

Liseberg Discussion Thread
Anac0nda replied to viking86's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm getting really hyped up by these pics, so a huge thank you is in order! We have already discussed about visiting Liseberg with my friends, and in 2012 the park made such an impact that even those who don't ride coasters want to visit again. Also, am I noticing a slightly different profile in supports? Not in the shape (they're round) but by the cross-bracing etc. Maybe this mammoth of a coaster will feature a new style of supports and a new style of track (the filled triangles). Anyway, it just adds how much I want to see and of course ride this beast! -
The RCT3 Preview Thread
Anac0nda replied to mcjaco's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
It's been a good while since I last played RCT3 so I decided to try a little something. This turned out to have an even better layout than I'd hoped so I might actually finish this someday! Inspired by Raptor and X-Flight -
Faarup Sommerland photo report. Around 200 photos.
Anac0nda replied to _koppen's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Wow, I had no idea that Fårup was this awesome! Thank you for this great TR, I really enjoyed it! Especially the obstacle course blew me away. I have done a few but although short, I like them all, but Fårup really takes it to another level. And the waterpark looks way cool too! AND it even has multiple great rides! This TR really put Fårup to my bucket list Looks like 2014 will have a Liseberg-Fårup combo-trip with my name on it -

Here's two pictures more with maintenance lights on (the queue and station area are actually very dark). Overview. The inside part of the queue takes about 15 minutes. And here's a close-up of a car. -

You asked for it, you got it Larry! Here's some pics: Let's start with a ride sign. Here's the new facade. There are two witches on the windows on the roof waving at customers to come in. The Monorail runs right by, and two of its supports are made to look like trees. There are also two crows sitting on one of the branches and they can be heard saying some funny Finnish phrases Here's the queue. The chain was added about a month after the ride opened, as it became clear that the overflow queue had to be directed away from the ticket booths which are located right across the plaza. -
Linnanmäki Discussion Thread

Funny thing: just when this thread got bumped back up, I finished my training to operate the new Ghost Train called "Kyöpelinvuoren Hotelli". Kyöpelinvuori is the living place of witches and Hotelli mean Hotel (you guessed it!). There are always 2 people operating with one as operator and one in the platform loading the cars. The cars hold 4 people with wind effects, backpokes and vibrating seats for every person. The effects nullify the "close my eyes and ears" -manouveur often seen done by the scared because you can't block out the sense of touch! But they do their job and sometimes manage to scare me too What I especially like about the ride are the sounds! The ambience playing in the housed queue and platform as well as inside the ride are very well made, and the same applies to the effects inside. I won't spoil them all but my favourites are a pair of duelling witches battling over the ownership of the hotel as well as two witches bathing in a sauna (adding a Finnish touch ). However I've heard mixed reviews from the GP. Some say it's boring and that there's too much "nothing is happening" -moments, but I think it's also worth mentioning that the queue has been full every single day (that's about 20-30 minutes of waiting, about the average in Linnanmäki). Compared to the old one which had hardly ever ANY queue I'd say this is a successfull investment. Sadly I have no pictures of the ride yet, but here's the operating panel. We fooled around a bit with the touch screen and discovered a Google Translate-Finnish-version of the main screen. It was hilarious! -
This has to be the most irritating rule. I was just going to mention ZacSpins. I'm currently working at Linnanmäki and one of my rides I'm operating is Kirnu, the ZacSpin coaster. We have a strict policy about balancing the weight on the cars and due do the cars ability to rotate freely, an unbalanced car would not only result in an uncomfortable ride, it could also fail to straighten the car in the end. However, we have several mechanisms to balance the cars so the guests need not to worry. Also, in case of single riders and since there's normally five employees working on a summer day while only three are needed to operate, we have permission to balance the car with an employee! This makes things so much easier and also fun! I mean, who wouldn't want to ride a coaster a few times during workday?

Yesterday I did my first bungee-jump (60 meters) in our university's backyard and it was beyond awesome!

I just think it's awesome that a small park in a rather small country has 2 awesome and lengthy Intamin rollercoasters! EVERY park could follow this kind of trend EDIT: Why look at that, it's my 200th post. -
I live almost right next to the stated area, and this has also been in the local newspaper. What I have understood is that it would be an indoor park, containing multiple simulators and kid-attractions (bouncy castles etc). I highly doubt it would have any coasters, a Go-Gator at max. Also if I recall correctly, the IKEA is not coming. It would have been awesome though to have a coaster almost in the backyard!

Least favorite coaster element.

This. The best part of a Volare is the first drop: no laterals -> no horrible banging. Everything else until unloading is just pure torture.
