Mitch Hawker's Steel Poll - Now Open
downunder replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We are definitely not proposing to manipulate the poll on Superman Escape but at least get everyone who has been on it to put in a ballot so at least it gets into the list and then is taken on it's merits. I was actually really surprised by SE, the combination of impressive theming for a fair dinkum thrill ride and great air time got it ahead of notables like Storm Runner and raptor for me at No. 8 on my list. Thanks to Mitch for putting Superman Escape onto the ballot so quickly after I emailed it was missing. -
Mitch Hawker's Steel Poll - Now Open

I've had to hold off because they left off Superman Escape, the new Intamin Rocket at Movie World Australia, I have asked that it be included. We are all keen to vote for it downunder because it is surprisingly good coaster - only real world class one in oz. -
That theming is absolutely amazing, all they need now is an expedition ge force clone and a balder clone and I'll be on the way to beijing post haste.

Cruising with Theme Park Review!
downunder replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That cruise boat is so impressive, the one I went on which incidentally was the actual "Love Boat" from the TV series was just ghastly - like being in a really dangerous bar for two weeks. I reckon ACER's would explode like the fat guy in Meaning of Life if they went on that cruise. -

If they were anything like the Gypsie's in the film Snatch, I'd be real scared if they were in the park. -
Who Will Play Ohio State for the National Championship?

I think Michigan deserve to be there, but given the vagaries of the rankings system USC look like they will be there, be a cracker of a game either way. -
Best Florida Park

Islands of Adventure for pure overall quality, but BGA has the best coaster collection. -
As an overseas visitor who has been to SFMM 6 times (9 times ever) in the last 4 years, I've always given the park another chance because of the coasters but I always come away feeling ripped off and disappointed. I guess part of it is that since I have first been to SFMM I have been fortunate enough to go to Cedar Point and also ride SROS and El Toro, so going to better parks and riding coasters far better than anything at magic mountain have decreased my appreciation of the park. But the other part is that I come away from SFMM feeling, as a customer, that I have been treated with contempt; the poor operations (one train op, slow loading etc), smug service, the really disgusting overpriced food, lack of rides actually running - especially X (except in 2004). SFMM has really become a charmless place, and I only would go there again to ride X and that's about it. I would qualify that by saying I am very selective about the times I go to the park, doing research in advance to go on "good days", because being on the other side of the pacific ocean I can't go every weekend - not that I would want to. Just my opinion based on my experiences at the park.

Saving Private Ryan My one was from The Committments, a seriously cool movie. "I just think of a man, and take away all reason and accountability."

Saw Pearl Jam at the Sydney Superdome on saturday night, and they were unbelievable, they were so high energy, and played almost all their hits. Eddie Vedder came out and sung with the support act Kings of Leon - he couldn't wait. U2 were great the week before, but these guys just smoked them with pure rock n roll spirit.

I like Knott's, after going to Sux Flags Tragic Mountain, Knott's is like a breath of fresh air - of course it doesn't hurt that every time I go all rides are running and have no lines with bounce backs. I have heard stuff about this ride, I was told - think Dragon's Fury (not a Mack?), that is supposed to be a good ride isn't it? Sounds like this will be a fun addition to Knott's. Paris Hilton - I'd ride Paris but will that be an upcharge - like your soul or something?

69/100 - yes, it really was 69 - I am so not hardcore. -
Not somethimng that would make me want to go to the park in the slightest. Assuming that the show that bears at least some semblance to Cirque de Solleil - based on the popularity of those shows that should result in an increase in attendance at the park and attract maybe more people of the sophisticated yuppie demographic with high levels of disposable income.

Favorite type of B&M Coaster?
downunder replied to MummyAW's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I said Hyper (only based on Nitro), but that is without going on any dive machines, and the best invert I have been on is Raptor which is great, but others like Nemesis and Montu might have swung my vote to inverts. My top ten B & M's: 1. Nitro (actual #6) - hyper 2. Raptor (actual #10) - invert 3. Incredible Hulk - sit down looper 4. Duelling Dragons - invert 5. Tatsu - flyer 6. Kraken - floorless 7. Batman clones - invert 8. Riddler's Revenge - stand up 9. Silver Bullet - invert 10. Mantis - stand up -

I re-read Salem's Lot while I was in the US in Sept, before that I read Hearts in Atlantis which I really like, and before that Cell, which was great but petered out a little bit. -

400+ lbs, male, and never had sex - you are automatically a member. Being interested in coasters is optional because you would be too large to get on them - they should call it American Buffet Enthusiasts. I am so nasty, I'll just say Homer simpson started it.

"Mistery" - I thought "Misery" would have been a more appropriate word.
