Funny Things That Go Unnoticed
Goliath513 replied to atem122's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
"Any article of clothing which designates membership in any organization is prohibited." Looks like the park has had some problems with ACE before. Glad to see they made an exception for TPR! -
Aspen Lakes V2 [RCT3]
Goliath513 replied to angryemobeaver's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I've never really liked RCT3, but this park actually looks really promising. Can't wait to see more! -
I would be pretty disappointed. I think it will be something like along the lines of Sierra Sidewinder. You SoCal people are really hard to please. You just got Terminator this year and now, when the park is building the follow up coaster in the next year instead of waiting a few, you're already going to be unsatisfied if it isn't something big? Man, I can't imagine how you would make it here in Colorado where no new coasters have been built since 2007 (and even that was a used Python Pit kiddie coaster). Whatever this turns out to be, kiddie coaster or not, I'm sure it will be a good addition to the park. Especially if it means ripping out a closed dilapidated structure to replace it with a coaster that will improve the family atmosphere of the park, be a new credit for you guys, and bring SFMM back into a tie with CP for the coaster count. Can't complain about that last part, can you fanboys?

You guys seem to be forgetting that 10 years ago, there WAS water on the Boardwalk. Windjammer was built over a small lake and the surfing theme was what made the Boardwalk after being rethemed from the Roaring 20's in 1997. However, Windjammer was closed for much of it's life because of mechanical and structural problems, as well as low ridership. Such a failure was inevitably going to be replaced. Xcelerator, while it has its share of problems and took the Boardwalk theme in a different direction that the Knott family did, is a perfect fit for the park in these days of "bigger is better." That being said, Perilous Plunge was built right about the same time Windjammer was permanently shut down, and saved that back corner of the park. I remember the days of riding the old parachute drop that was attached to the sky tower and the relaxing atmosphere in the Windjammer area. I feel the addition of Demon Drop can be a step in the right direction if some thought is put into it. Think about it...an old ride like that could be themed to something old, like a mine shaft for Ghost Town. I can't imagine this would fit in worse for the theme of the park than the Screamin' Swing did, no matter what they end up doing with the ride.

Rocky Mountain AmuesmentPark [RCT2]
Goliath513 replied to Fat-G's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
If you're going to continue posting updates, you might as well keep this topic here or have one of the mod's merge it with the original rather than delete it. This new set of changes is pretty cool as well. It's interesting to see my park taken in a new direction by someone else. -

Your changes look fine, but like I said in the PM, I don't think this deserves it's own topic and should instead be in either my original thread or in the "preview thread." -

Boy floats away in homemade helium balloon

Being that it happened in here in Colorado where the show's creators are from and the show is set in, it's probably only a matter of time. -

How did I not hear about this while it was happening? I just heard about it a few hours ago after it had already ended and I live right here in Fort Collins. Great, now we won't here anything about anything else in this town for a month. -
Calling All Coaster Enthusiasts!
Goliath513 replied to bigjohnson51's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Name: Sam Johnson Age: 19 What is your roller coaster count? 181 What is your home park? Hyland Hills Water World, Elitch Gardens, Lakeside Amusement Park What is the nearest big city? Denver, CO What is your occupation? Student About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? 1 visit to each usually since they are about an hour drive in each direction to get to. I've only been to Water World this year though. About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? I go to SFDK several times when I'm visiting family out there in CA. I usually do one additional trip to some other parks as well (this year it was Knott's and SFMM) When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? Unless its with family, I stick to the amusement parks because I can't afford to do more. What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park?. East coast in 2008 with TPR! Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…) I don't associate with my family much anymore since I moved out last year, so no. Do you have any other major hobbies? Skiing, RCT2, working out. Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? I'm too busy at college to really care that I'm not riding coasters. I used to think I was obsessed, but since the offseason does not bother me, I guess I'm not so much. Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) There's a few. Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? no Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? I only ever go by myself if it's a credit run, or to get my season pass. Usually in those cases, I haven't ran into anyone if it wasn't already planned. Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? Yes, assuming their obsession isn't unhealthy like most ACErs How do you get your coaster news? TPR, Screamscape How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? 2 If there was a poll that asked a large pool of enthusiasts what their favorite roller coaster is, what do you think would be the top 3 responses be for wood? And for steel? Wood: Boulder Dash, Phoenix, El Toro. Steel: Bizarro (SFNE), Maverick, any Intamin Mega-Lite Same scenario but for amusement parks, what would be the top 3? Cedar Point, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knoebel's Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? No Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) I did when I was saving for the TPR trip, but not so much anymore since I don't have any trips planned. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? To some extent. Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? Warm and accepting on TPR. Not so much on RCPro, which is why I left that site. Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? If the topic comes up, yes. -

Use 8Cars 1.302, as that is the most stable/reliable version out there. Just absolute-zero-clearance the entire park - that's what I always do when I custom support. If you want to do it your way by zero clearanceing the one ride, 8Cars is known to be unresponsive if you computer isn't running on ideal settings. Are you using Vista? If so, be sure to disable UAC on your computer, disable visual themes in the properties menu by right-clicking on the game icon, set the game to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 2, and set the display theme of your computer to "Windows Classic." This will eliminate any unresponsive problems caused by 8Cars and Vista. The track will always flicker when zero-clearanced. The game will fix itself when you restore the clearances. Hit me up on facebook with any other questions you have about the game man. -
Great photos! I love water parks like these which integrate their slides and other water attractions into the terrain. Here in America, waterparks with a homemade feel like these are a dying breed, and in my opinion are far superior to your typical out-of-the-box mediocre generic toilet bowls, play structures, or tube slides placed on flat concrete ground with no character to them - which seem to be all the rage today.

Wait, didn't they send the trains to another park for spare parts? If so, this might just be another opportunity for Vekoma to try out their new trains. They certainly worked great and made for a good ride experience on Great Nor Easter by eliminating the headbanging. The only problem there was the signature "Vekoma gap" between the wheels and track was still there (I believe they simply changed the restraints on the old trains). If they can fix that like Michigan's Adventure did when they rebuilt Thunderhawk, this new SLC could actually be a hit to coaster enthusiasts as well. I don't really mind that they are getting a second invert. Afterall, look at parks with more than one sitdown looping coaster, more than one wooden coaster, more than one coaster over 200ft tall... the list goes on. Why can't this apply to inverts as well? -
Roller Coaster Demolition Photos
Goliath513 replied to milst1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's an entire section of a site showing off Windjammer's removal which I came across and followed during that summer of the demolition. http://www.twistedrails.com/kbf/kbf.shtml I recall Westcoaster had photo updates on the removal back then as well... which have long since been taken down from the site. Dan, do you still have the pictures? -
Video: Water slide stupidity.
Goliath513 replied to Voyage_luvr's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This topic about Concord's Waterworld accident seems to come up every few months or so. I've seen groups attempt chains at Water World here as well. Fortunately, most of the big slides here are built into the hillside and hardly leave the ground (or are close enough to the ground to where no serious injury would result from breaking) as opposed to free standing support structures 40 feet above the ground where the weight of the sliders isn't evenly supported by the land. I've also seen people try to stand up in the bowl slides. One of these days some idiot teen is going to hit their head on the edge of the dropdown hole while trying to stand, and be killed in the process. -
It really depends on where in the US the ride is placed. Look how insane rides like Voyage and Boulder Dash run. Pretty much anywhere outside of California would give the ride a better chance at running up to full potential. Any safety inspector from California who has been to Pennsylvania would sh!t themselves upon seeing almost anything at Knoebels as well as the seatbelt free and lap-bar only Sooperdooperlooper at Hershey. Same for anything at Lakeside here in Colorado. Although trims seem like they are installed for the sole purpose as to tame down the ride for sue-happy GP, quite often they are added to rides with poor structure design (Twister II for example) to keep the ride from tearing itself apart and to reduce maintenance costs. Robb and Elissa, how does this mega-lite compare with the others?

Goliath513 replied to Stoksy's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Start with a station underground and build backwards up and above ground until you get the strip of track you want the train to be on. You can put the brakes on here. Use 8Cars and change the operating mode to "freefall drop mode", test the ride, and close it once the train comes to the end of the track where you want it to be. Color any track in front of the train you don't want to see connected to the transfer and sink that with 8Cars. -

A friend and I went to see it (though not in 3D) yesterday. To be honest, I think it's safe to say the series is over. Unlike the first three in the series, this was the hardest to take any bit seriously...about on par with Snakes on a Plane. The opening race track scene was exciting, but the rest of the movie seemed quite forced (recycled plot and all). Although the mall scene filmed at the closed down New Orleans Centre was pretty impressive.

Photo TR: Natatomic does the West Coast Trip
Goliath513 replied to natatomic's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Believe it or not, Roar was running quite good at the start of the season. Some of the best rides I ever had on it were back in May. But when I went back earlier this month, it was downright awful - much like Hershey's Wildcat with Millennium Flyers. The same thing goes for Kong, which I didn't even bother to give my courtesy ride on my last visit since it was so bad even at the start of the season.
