Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread
Philrad71 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unfortunately, there are no walking distance hotels around Wonderland. The closest are the ones mentioned South of the Mall. I would recommend the group of hotels a little more South that includes a Hilton, Homewood Suites and a Marriott. I would not recommend staying anywhere South of the 401 HWY in that particular area. Thanks guys! Very helpful! That resort attached to the park will be a great addition. I wish all parks had an attached hotel(s). -

I swore that there was a Drury Inn like right across the street from CW, but when I Google "closest hotel to CW" all I get are ones a couple of miles away or more. Did I dream this is or something? My sister and husband are planning their first ever trip to CW this summer to ride Yukon Striker (she LOVES dive coasters) and they were looking for lodging suggestions near the park...the closer the better. I told her that I'd not trust Google and that I had more reliable sources on TPR. -

Interesting news, but not overly surprising about Volcano. Great idea, totally original, but a maintenance nightmare over the years. I agree with those that said that the launches and theming were both great, but the barrel rolls were somewhat boring and even a bit uncomfortable when they slowed the launches down. I can see them tearing down the mountain/coaster and the top spin and completely re-theming that area. As much as the old Paramount "jungle theme" for that area seemed cool, it seemed quirky with those two rides, a bobsled and Outer Banks all mixed together. LOL -
This one was really good too...still in Fargo at a place called JL Beers. The Chili Popper burger is what I ordered on this coooold winter night! Big draft selections are good! Burger with freshly made chips with a chipotle mayo dipping sauce Great burger!!

I have a shit-ton of burger pics to post, Bill...just gotta back into things. I was in Fargo for work last week and got to finally try a Juicy Lucy stuffed burger. So decadent!! Jalapenos, tortillas, guac, salsa, stuffed with pepper jack cheese Om, nom, nom... Crooked Pint...good stuff.

While I always enjoy a good rapids ride, I will be very interested to see what goes in here. Glad that I got a chance to ride it when we were there last May. -

^ I agree. I also carry the same policy, but I am not salaried...I'm hourly. Once I leave to go on vacation, I will bring and check my work phone daily. If there is a crisis, I call my co-workers to handle it while I'm out of the office and I do the same for them when they are on vacation. It really works well. I deal with enough stress at work that I really need that time to unwind. I really feel for those that don't or can't do that. I have several salaried friends that work at the corporate offices that are in that boat. I think that it's sad that they can't even go on vacations with their families without checking their email/phone every 5 minutes, or calling in for a teleconference 3-4 times a day. But then again, they are raking in about double of what my salary is...so there is that, I suppose. -
Great addition for a park that needed another decent coaster. I like raising awareness about any animals, but I've always been a shark enthusiast since Jaws scared the shit out of me many moons ago as a kid. lol And as others have said - you simply can't go wrong with a dive coaster. They're fun and the GP loves them.

^^ I agree, Andrew! There is simply nothing better than ending the day at CP with an awesome night ride on MF. If one can score a front seat ride, even better...as long as one has the patience to wait it out. -

The only food that I think is decent is the bbq. I think they are really Trying to improve the park food. I had some fried potato skewer that wasn’t quite Fried long enough, had the consistency of scalloped potatoes, kinda mushy. Nothing like you would find at Silver dollar City, but props to them for trying I guess. The park is very pretty, I don’t think you will be disappointed. Ride the Prowler, it actually rides decent with it being cold. Also purchase your ticket online, I believe it’s cheaper. Otherwise it’s 41 something with tax at the gate Thanks for the tips! I think that based on what you have told me that we might eat somewhere before we go to the park and then get something warm to sip on while we are there. If I get BBQ, I want it to be from one of the local hot spots! I assume that Prowler is probably a better ride in the front than anywhere else? Also, are there wheeled and non-wheeled seats that I should hit up or avoid? Seems like reviews of this coaster have varied immensely in the past couple of years. If it works out, I will likely buy my tickets through Club TPR through Tickets At Work (shameless plug). They were like $24.99 or something like that which is quite the discount from what they were on the WoF website! -

Thanks for the Winterfest photos! If the weather pans out, I will be flying to KC to visit a friend the weekend of December 7th and am thinking of checking this place out (never been to this park). I know that most of the coasters and rides won't be open and I am cool with that. Any must-do attractions, drinks (of the alcoholic variety) or food to try at this park for anyone that has attended this event?
