Cruising with Theme Park Review 2008!
Real replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Brings back memories of my cruise on the Freedom. Absolutely a fantastic time. Those ships, ports and amenities (plus as Robb pointed out...the FOOOOOOD) are amazing. I = jealousy. -
Flame wars only erupt when people cannot let people have their own opinions. I for one dont think disneys all that great and Ive pretty much spent a large part of my life there. But thats me. I know many people (including my parents) who are utterly obsessed. Thats fine and dandy. There are the main things I hit there but Id rather go there now, even at age 25 and no girl, to just go and sit in a resort and visit Universal instead. The Disney resorts are second to none. But hey, if this topic among others has to be closed for flame wars - wow. Just wow.

And thats a problem why? BTW If you were one of the only chains to be making profit - and good profit at that while installing new rides AND aquiring an entire chain of parks Id be feelin pretty high and mighty as well. They are smart business people. Allow them to have their moment because its now. When the rest of the economy is suffering and a large portion of the amusement industry is, they arent. Give credit where credit is due. Im not a huge CF fan but I can recognize a well run and organized business when I see it. And CF - definatly falls into that category.

Fireball - Happy Valley Shanghai, China
Real replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In true TGG fashion the design looks to have changed a bit since that render. The ending brake run and bunny hills before it are now very close to parallel while the rendering shows quite an angle. But TGG is known to change the design all the way up till the very last moment when plans have to be mailed out for the next zone to be worked on. So I wouldnt expect that render to be too close to the final result. -
The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
Real replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ive been trying to get people to help me fund that project for years. All we need is a decent accelerant and something to light it. Preferably a combustible liquid as those tend to work the fastest. -
The drum set is better than if you have your own electric set and you can play RB2 on it? Really? I doubt that. And being able to bring so much of the old content with you to RB2 is for me, more important than anything else.

Millenium Force and Mantis
Real replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree that MF is well...underwhelming. But Mantis - no matter how you ride (and Ive tried lots of various "positions") still shakes, rattles and vibrates more than a kitty in a paint can in a paint shaker! Its horrible! Is the ride incredibly powerful? Oh heck yea. Is the track buttery smooth? Of course! Are the trains one some of the worst Ive ever been on? Without a doubt. Stick any other B&M train on that track and youd experience bliss. Well, maybe not any but a lot of them. Those standups just arent meant to handle the forces that ride dishes out. I hear Mantis 1.2 (AKA Chang) rides way, way better as its a bit more stretched out. More fluid and not so compact. -
How much will it weigh? Even the suped up versions of the Merc and Gala are weighty I think at over 3000lbs which is IMO for a supercar nearly 500lbs overweight. You need to be quite a bit lighter to really catch my eye.

Cedar Point, New Rain Policy
Real replied to raptor2011's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yea I was in line for front seat when a total downpour hit. They actually loaded us and sent us up. Rain has never hurt so much. I think it could have ben considered an extreme form of acupuncture. Would I do it again though? Yes. It was hilarious. I laugh at things like that. Ive also witnessed Dragster run a few cycles in the light rain which has to be oh so fun. -
Ding ding ding! We have a winner. What do we have for him Johnny?!

Canon EOS 300D (The first gen Digital Rebel) 6.2mp Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro Canon 75-300 sucky zoom (trust me, grainy 90% of the time) Canon 18-70 that came with Kit - decent lens For editing I primarily use Adobe Lightroom since its far better suited for standard photography. However, when I go to do HDR stuff its back to CS2.

I think my biggest pet peeve with the gay marriage deal is that the people who vote against basically deny gay people the rights to better medical coverage and tax breaks. And what upsets me even more is that they cannot legally have wills for when one of them dies. There are tons more issues that, while they may seem small are huge once you are in that position. Ive got a couple friends who are gay and my fiance works in a flower shop owned by two gay guys. If any one of these guys were screwed over and couldnt will property and belongings to their loved one or cant get medical insurance for a family - well that is ridiculous. Id say so far my gay friends are actually more loyal, caring and considerate than my straight ones. As for the judge overturning, well there is a checks and balances system. Somewhere there is a way for the people to continue their push if they so choose. Quite frankly I think the right decision was made but remember - the people elected those judges in. So, thats where I would say that really the judge is speaking for the people. It just so happens these judges obviously have a differing view on gay marriage than the majority who voted them in. ^Theres gotta be "some" discussion other than just the judges ruling. This is a special topic dealing with interpretations of the constitution. Theres no one set law for this so arguments for and against will fuel your descision on whether the courts made the right call.

If riding bashes away 20% of my brain cells consider me braindead. Opening day of its first year I rode 26 times. Since then? Another 20 more? I take two aspirin to start the day and then another 2 mid way through. The headache I go to the hotel with (after the night rides) is what helps me sleep.

Waldameer Discussion Thread
Real replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks coasterline. I called the park as well just to double check. Good to hear because I know some of the smaller parks are more...critical about rain than others. Im really holding out for a nice day tomorrow. Cant wait to ride. Infact, it can rain in the morning, make it faster - then stop when I get there. ha. Ill wish. -
Waldameer Discussion Thread
Real replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hopefully the weather holds out for tomorrow. Is Waldameer the type of park that will close down entirely for bad weather? Do the rides run in a light rain? Im not all for getting soaked but Ive had tomorrow planned for awhile. Bout 3 hour drive for me. -
If I could offer advice - relationships are work. Period. What you put in is often what you get out - especially if what you put in you enjoy then what you get will be 10 fold better. But thats not to say if you work at any relationship itll work out. But if you put in work and not be a total lazy ass and it doesnt work out at least you know you put in the effort. Also, dont hide expectations!!! Dont wait for that someone to do that one thing you want them to do without telling them thinking if it happens they must be the one. Just be honest. Drop hints. But never assume anything and dont hide expectations. You each need to know up front what you expect or are expecting. If both of you love each other when you talk about expecations in a lot of instances it only helps you understand the other persons desires and wishes better and better helps you equip yourself to take care of the other. I missed that boat for a year and nearly lost my fiance. Now that we are alot more honest, open and forgiving we have never been better.

Disturbed's 4th Album - Indestructible
Real replied to Vekoma Fan Boy's topic in Random, Random, Random
Its not random. I think if you preordered on Best Buy you got a few extra songs. Disturbed has obviously teamed up with EA to get even more exposure for this album by co-releasing content on Live as well as the actual CD itself. -

MF is far more boring than Hydra. At least to me. I downloaded the rock band songs and they are good. Throws in some good metal stuff that can actually be played on Expert without throwing you the impossible stuff. Though it sucks hitting double bass beats with one pedal. Definatly not my idea of fun (yet). -
Well what I was getting at is hes tricking us into thinking you can have all crap stuff and still get beautiful shots. If he was using an ISO over 400 it doesnt matter Id personally think the shots were crap since I hate grain. Then again, shooting high grain in the desert is almost like cheating (though smart) because sand is grain and you probably wouldnt be able to tell much. But really those photos follow basic photography principals - nothing majorly spectacular just shots set up correctly. If you want to prove youve got skills gimmie a museum quality shot with a pinhole camera. Theres some serious skills there.

Being in an amazing location doesnt hurt either...However I think his ploy to make it seem like his "horrible" camera takes such great pictures is somewhat hogwash. Ive seen these and its basically like having 35mm or medium format film attached to a fixed lens which IMO usually gives the best results. While versatile, zoom lenses ruin alot of pictures. Considering I bet the film he used was pretty decent and I assume there was some post processing in the dark room (any good photographer has to do some editing for desired effect) Im not suprised. His tagline beneath each photo is pure overkill though. Im really wondering what the film he used was.
