Photo TR: Red Bull Air Race, Detroit/Windsor 5/31-6/1

I was supposed to be there. I was there last year and shot a bunch of really good photos. I just couldnt afford it this year. The racers LOVED the course so Im hoping next year itll be back and this can be something Detroit can use to bolster its crappy economy. If you can go to these air shows, I dont care if you arent really into planes, GO! Its one of the most AMAZING racing spectacles I think you can see in person. NASCAR? Please, what a joke. This is far more insane. -

I knew you would note the supports. This ride is supposed to resemble the original ride. This is why the speed on the train on the first reverse run in higher than it runs now. This is a recreation of the ORIGINAL opening of the ride. Not a later date. lol @ the rate Alex. Thanks buddy. -
Red Bull Cola banned for containing cocaine!

Theres an ice cream place by my place in East Toledo that serves up a Monster Slush and a Monster Shake. Using Monster drinks...yuck. Ill take a Red Bull anyway. However, Red Bull as a mixer in drinks - yummy. Sometimes good straight too but only when the mood strikes me. -

If youre doing a wooden coaster, when you have parallel track or close track, run the support wizard (always save multiple versions too so you can revert back) and check clearances. You can also just throw up the Final Preview supports to see as well. For steel coasters you shouldnt have too much of an issue.

I always tour the TPR site. But I actually havent been "active" in any site for a year or 2. I cruise CoasterCrazy but my life has taken its ups and downs the last 2 years and I also didnt have a computer. So its only been in the last couple months Ive sat down and gotten serious again with NoLimits. Thanks for the comments. Pkigoer and myself are very proud of this ride. -
This was a project that Pkigoer asked me if I could help him on. He was having a hard time getting the track right and trusted me to get it done properly. After I saw what he had I realized our only option was to scrap what he had and start from scratch. However, he knew my work (one of my closest testers for my rides) and knew if we were going to do it, we would do it right. Sure, the concept is simple. But getting the track as close to vertical as possible, getting the banking just right and making the AHG like you all the same time takes a little time. Not a ton, but enough to pull a few hairs out. So along with some textures I fed him, the trackwork is mind. He did the rest of the themeing with consulting from me. He did an EXCELLENT job and I am proud to associate my trackwork with the effort he put into the rest of the ride. I present, Wicked Twister. Wicked Twister (CP).nlpack

I have always, since hand building, always made sure my track is done first. Why? Supports are too labor intensive to fix. Same for trackwork. But with supports I can be more creative to solve tricky problems. I reccomend ALWAYS doing ALL of your track first till its finished. Try to envision, if you must, what the supports will sort of look like. Its good to know if you are trying to get a certain look. But I never do any supports till the track is 100% completed and polished.

NL Seabreeze Tight Fit Contest
Real replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
and those g requirments arent too realisitc unless you count intamin woodies. However, with the g's being so generous, should make it a lot easier. I dont think normal woodies pull more than 4ish for + and not over -1. Tight fit challenges are fun though! I have a few sitting in folders, unfinished. Lol -
Well its not totally out of place, I just know its not the correct size. lol. I should learn how to deal better with techincalities... And someone should hack woodmagic and reverse engineer it so we can get at least some proper spacing done in auto mode.
-
I guess thats the lesser of 2 evils. I would be upset that the beams arent still the right size. But if I chose to do the correct spacing (since we need a beam inbetween the large and small...maybe...medium?) I would probably do the small.
-
How about 5 beams per ledger, all hand placed, each hand banked to follow the track? Looks nice, looking forward to seeing it finished. i dont see the reason for using all small supports, especially since what will you do for the bracings that are smaller yet? There wont be a distinction in size, so i guess thats the trade off. btw im banking each by hand and lining them up as well so they fuse as 1 board something tells me ill get mine done before yours too. I wish i had time to do supports all by hand. But this will suffice. btw, no testers. The ride is already done and with supports already commited to, i wont change anything

Of course Mindbender, the original Taz, etc.

Yea, it would. And some of these were back before we had more accurate numbers and information to go on. I remember finding a document from an American Association that outlines G Forces and not just max and min, but also the time they should be held for and the time it should take to transition from one to another. But if you werent getting yourself kicked in the nads by G's on a Shwarzy...it wouldnt be a Shwarzy!
-
I won. I dont remember the exact contest (I could look it up) but I believe I won. Im most proud of how long it took me to do the ride. Normally supports bore me like the day is long, but I stuck to it and finished the thing. Thanks!
-
This was basically just a test when I was working on top hats trying to get the right shaping and such. So I completed just the track to see how it ran. Didnt run too bad. If anyone wants to finish supports or whatev, go ahead. Just remember to note where you got the track. Stealth Ka.nlpack

Another old project that I rushed to finish for a contest deadline. ====================== The Missile --Created again for a contest, this one only lasting from Oct 15th to Oct 30th. This one took me again, like 2-3 days as its a shuttle coaster. So keep that in mind... With the highest tower at 150ft this isnt the worlds largest shuttle, but since Moonsault Scramble is SBNO or gone, this is the worlds most intense shuttle coaster. Utilizing 2 of those famous Anton Schwartzkopf loops, this ride pulls nearly 6 G's more than twice during the ride in various seats. This ride, unlike nearly every other shuttle in the world gives you airtime, a full -1 of airtime as you come out and into the station. How many shuttles can claim that? From the pounding G's in the double loop set, to the hangtime in the tops of the loops to the airtime out/in of the station, this shuttle packages up everything you could want in a shuttle coaster: Suprise, Intensity and Fun. IMPORTANT ================================== Also, the G's while they may go red in the sim are FINE for real life standards. NoLimits is not going by real life standards. I will report ratings that are based on the color and NOT the number of the G's. This ride in particular is way under that "most" that a coaster ever pulled safely and is right at the most for a ride currently running, even in the US. So, take the time if you are going to rate on the G's to look at the number and not the color. Tazs Texas Tornado pulled 6.2 in its time, and that same ride now lessened a bit at SFMW, Zonga, pulls about 5.8-5.9 I believe I have heard. Also, Tower of Terror at Golf Reef City in South Africa pulls 6.3, and it runs today http://www.rcdb.com/installationdetail1481.htm ====================== The Missile.nlpack

This is an old ride (2004) in which the only tools used were AHG and smoother (which now comes with NL) All hand built. ==================== Quatro Height: 157ft Drop: 135ft Speed: Approx 65mph Length: 4684ft Inversions: 0 Elements: 2 outwardly banked airtime hills, 2 helicies and a warped diving helix Airtime Hills: 9 Quatro got its name from its creation length. I started this project on Tuesday, Oct 12th and Finished it today, Friday the 15th. I added a day because I had an old version of the one I lost while jumbling my NL folder around (bad idea kids, dont do it) So, this ride, completely (I had the ideas from the old one, but took nothing from it) was built from Tuesday to Friday. I used all the tools to my advantage, Busters smoothers and then once I got it close, I used Busters Auto Heartline Tool to do the rest. I will say, that tool is GREAT but your track has to be perfect...and it doesnt always do what you expect, which youll find a few odd points in this track. Supporting took me from Wednesday morning till this morning. All in all, its pretty good for 4 days work, but not good enough for anything else. Known Issues: Slow last helix because I was in a hurry (Deadline was Friday) Odd shaping and banking in few areas Rushed supports Timing goes to crap after around 10 or so cycles...not too bad. ================= Track originally created for Thrillnetwork Sept-Oct 15th Mini Hyper contest. ha, come on...I think Im old enough to get it. Doesnt mean I have to agree though. So you post duplicates so that people can go "hmm...do I look at more or not...?" Hows that different than clicking a link with thumbnails? I can tell from the thumbnail if I want to see it or not and itll take up a fraction the time to load! Instead of fighting this fight like you are, maybe if you took a minute to understand what I am trying to say this conversation could actually be constructive! I think Ive said the same thing 3 or 40 times, yet everyone else seems to at least acknowledge my point and youre just being the TOS Czar.
-
Ive found a heartline or 0.5 to provide very good results on the average. Infact, I almost always use 0.5 for all wooden coasters unless Im doing something different. It produces enough movement to keep G's low but doesnt eliminate some of those great transitional G-Forces all together.

Wooden Coaster Challenge
Real replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
ahh, SFNERules! I cant keep everyones different aliases straight. I still dont think its possible. Talk to Dcs or someone else with a fair bit of knowledge of math and such. Itll prolly look or feel close but not close enough. And hes a good builder, I know that. But the trick with GCI is they use a fair bit of constant radius hills/turns and so you gotta have a transition thats under 5ft long, but enter and exit into a constant radius thatll then shrink or get larger depending on the situation. In most cases I feel it stays the same but changes vertically. Well, it may actually get finished. I found the 3dMAx Scene file dug away in an old harddrive. So I can actually continue on it. But Im working one project at a time now. -
Ill just wait till Ive got 10 or so and see how ridiculous it looks for a single post to have virtually a trip reports worth of progress pics. Does your browser have tabs? open in new tab...neat and clean. no fuss, clutter or mess. And if youve already seen one or 2 to start with, Im curious why you wouldnt want to click the link to see the progress. Im not begging people to look at my rides, thats for sure. If ya dont want to click a link to browse photos, thats alright.

Yea Im working on a color. I want that southern yellow pine color. So im sampling from pictures and trying to pull the right RGB values that will also mesh well with the environment settings. :/
