  1. Actually, I thought I hearrd or read somewhere that the D40 doesnt support all of Nikons lenses. Thats what going to the x (apart from the MP) was mainly for. There were some other smaller differences but I thought that was part of the main draw. If you were the person who would only use the SLR as bought and not get lenses you got the D40 because it was made just for that. If you planned on getting some other lenses the 40x had full compatibility.
  2. Where on earth can you rent them? Id do that in a heartbeat...its worth it considering all the shots I WOULD have had. Google is my friend. I never ever thought of renting stuff like that. Just figured no one would do it. Thats friggin sweet. Theres a 300 f4 IS for like 35 bucks for 3 days. 7 days insured for 57. That makes me mad! lol
  3. I can echo that farmers tan from hell sentiments. Im actually about to apply another layer of Aloe Vera here in a couple minutes. After I get done editing more photos. How was the view from across the river? I was to the left of the GM Tower (Zone 2) and IMO I had a better view there of the entire course than the Zone 3 GM Tower zone had. Which sold out first!
  4. CCD's also DO NOT like fast motion as much. CMOS in my experience works much better with faster motion capture than CCD. CCD can produce ghosting - though not totally common - does happen and when it does you probably dont want it.
  5. Seriously, thats what I thought. I also see the point. Someone who is there but detached from the group emotionally or verbally isnt really there. I for one would rather not even have these individuals around if all they are going to do is be detached. And if someone has a job where they cant even have 24 hours without checking emails - might not want to have a family and have that job. Really, whats more important. Your family or the money? If your waiting say for something really important or maybe you took the kids and your wife is pregnant and goes into labor early - thats a good reason (among others listed here) to carry a phone. But to sit there and read emails and texts constantly is annoying. Put in a nice request off weeks in advance and give your duties to someone you can trust and tell em the phone/blackberry will be off. Its not hard. Sad though that an outside agent like a part has to step up and make it a little more in the forefront. If yo
  6. This past weekend I was able to attend the Red Bull Air Race in Detroit that took place over the Detroit river in basically what was a two-nation event since part of the track was over Canadian waters and the other part over American waters. I've seen this stuff on tv and its just amazing. When I saw it was coming to Detroit I flipped out because other than San Diego its global - so I thought there was little chance Id ever get to see it in person. Kirby Chambliss won (from the US) and beat out the Brit Paul Bonhomme who had won the first two events of the year. Paul was faster all day but when it counted he lost to Kirby by .15 of a second. These Air Races are accompanied by: Historical planes, aerobatic demonstrations, formation flying, 700mph fly bys, skydiving and extreme parachuting. Well worth the 30 dollar 2 day ticket EVEN though the first day was canceled do to high winds. If you live on the east coast (or its coming to London) and enjoy anything that flys this is a MUST. The Red Bull Air Racing is some of the craziest, if not the most amazing race you will ever see. Few pictures. More later - need to edit them. Almost all pictures worth posting up. Maybe a few more to come later.
  7. ^40D? I hate you. I need to find one that someone wants to sell used so I can afford it. Im using the original Digital Rebel which has a better sharpness sensor than the XT or XTi but lacks the overall size. The 40D is my upgrade of choice but after being at the Red Bull Air Race I almost think Id rather sink 1000 into a 200 or 300mm f2.8 L Series Lens with IS. Great pictures. They looked like they came from a SLR.
  8. Ive been on this boat. Friggin awesome. Highly reccommend. If anyones wondering and they have the money - its money well spent. You can get regular rates around 800 for the full week and thats the food included. Just doesnt get much better.
  9. Depends what ride you have been on. Ive been on, and repeat several rides in which the brakes are closed and remain closed till the ride comes to a complete stop - no tapping, just pure braking. Its not that bad at all. The fluid would suck a bit. Mostly if I was wearing anything decent.
  10. Yea...Lame*10. I was just at CP sunday and low and behold, MF had to be E-Stopped because someone took their belt off. So naturally, they were stuck. Of course Im sure alot of the riders had no clue, but when it came back around they asked if anyone would like to leave and only one person did - a little kid. No one was like "OMG! ITS BROKEN!" Then, Raptor got stuck twice and subsequently shut down. Did I hear anyone freaking out over that? No. Watching stuff like that really makes my blood boil if I think about it too long. ^Depends. I was stuck on MF for 30 minutes - LOVED it. Even my fiance said it was great to just sit back, relax and enjoy the view. Its not like youll be going anywhere, falling out or the ride collapsing. Some people overreact. I personally think if you are going to overreact like that you shouldnt ride coasters. Theres too many inherant dangers that people think shouldnt happen and the fact is, it can. I wonder if shes been in a car accident? Does she still travel by car then? but you can expect the normal person too. They should be smart enough to read the signs. Its printed in a large, bold letters on all coaster signs at CP. When did Americans lose all possible logical thought process?
  11. Definatly not all parks are created equal.
  12. I agree - but when enough is enough and your own quality of life is on the line, you gotta make moves. I spent 5 years at UPS. I got paid great money. Insane benefits. Part time hours with near full time pay. But it got to the point where I hated life. No matter what I did, how hard I tried to bring any sort of optimism to the job, management insisted to make the supervisors jobs a living hell. We were forced to break every normal business practice in the book. Then explain to our employees - who arent dumb - why these practices are legit. I left it all to work twice as many hours, make a little less money but LOVE what I do. At least being in a place where you love to work also opens up more opportunities for advancement because your work will almost always naturally be better when you are much happier. Had I already been married and possibly had kids I would have stuck it out for the benefits. But since Im single for one more year, I knew I had the chance to rid my life of a thorn that was eating away at me before I was too committed to it. Life is way too short to spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 40+ years. You will spend the most time in your life at your job. You have to in the very least find something you can tolerate. Right now I work twice as many hours for half the pay but Im excited to get up in the morning and go to work. That alone is worth the money I lost.
  13. "Intamin" Chain huh? Do you really think they would design a special chain when a normal chain would do just fine? You guys create all this speculation just to attack a park or chain of parks...ridiculous. Yea, cables are so much better. They take away the sense of height. They break rather easily (Yes, MF has been down due to its cable several times). After all the headaches with TTD's cable and MF's cable - I am tending to think that Chains are still better. How many times has Raptor, Mantis or Magnum been down due to chain problems? Virtually never.
  14. ^When they show ignorance, yea, they would. Yea, not like CP hasnt done the exact same thing. Things break. Want to try and run it with no chain? You can wait in line for it till it works without a chain.
  15. Yea...I had a pretty crazy ride that was like 3 full cycles and I handled it very well but man, the G Forces were pretty extreme. Once in a lifetime ride. Hope everyone who rode can still remember it!!
  16. Hmm. An Intamin ride with inadequate supports? Not like Ive never heard that before. Maybe its the inline. Gotta be that. Last time they tried to run a ride with a heartline-like twist it got removed because of stress
  17. I thought one of the rules of a good ride is how well it delivers under all conditions. New wheels, old wheels, morning, afternoon, night - etc.
  18. Its a single day early in most schools semesters/quarters. Do you really think missing a single day is that big of a deal? My box is still hummin along. Im really hoping it stays that way for awhile till I can get the Elite.
  19. My question: If it were designed as an aqua trax, whats it matter? I think its far more plausable to design and fabricate those 3 peices of track than it is to change the design of the trains, fabricate AND decal those in the same amount of time. Speculation, sure. Silly? kinda. Good report and pictures.
  20. Since there is no definitive truth in this case, no one can call their review "Honest". Honest would be defined as stating truth in the case that there is truth. This is a completely objective and opinionated situation - just like reviewing ANYTHING (movies, coasters, cars, etc). When it boils down to liking or loving something, there is no "honest opinion" since there is no "true opinion" because if it were true, then it wouldnt be an opinion. It would be fact or fiction. If you wanted to talk about the forces of a ride, which are definite, then you can talk truth and fiction. Its completely silly to say that someone who lives closer has a lesser review than someone who lives farther away. Ive traveled to parks far away and rides that people adore I didnt care for. Likewise, I live close to some rides that people adore that I dislike and vice versa - that I love and they hate. Personal preference cannot be boiled down to honesty. To call someone elses review dishonest (if its not honest, it has to be dishonest) is shameful and arrogent. I think the wisest thing we could all do is watch our word useage when we disagree with someone elses completely valid opinion.
  21. LOL Alex, Ill let you know by PM from this site when I plan to be up there during the Halloweekends. We need to ride some Raptor!
  22. Compared to everything else there...yea, its worth the wait. I wont wait anything more than 20 minutes for MF and 30 for Dragster. Ill wait 45 for Raptor and an hour for Maverick. Those are normally my cut offs. If the waits are all longer - out comes the tripod/camera and off I go to photography.
  23. Dont ever accuse Tennessee Tornado of having coat hanger transitions. You probably noticed that it rides as smooth or smoother than most B&M's! Im fairly certain this was NOT a Toomer design and was definatly using Schilke's newer mathematical formulas. Its evident by the perfect heartlining and the ridiculous flow of the ride. If that thing were only twice as long it would be SUCH a great design. Infact, its a great design as is - just too darn short.
  24. He went into a restricted area for his hat and died. Left a future wife. I have no sympathy for him but Im very saddened for his fiance. Thats very, very stupid. All over a hat.
  25. The Superman caption and the "no caption" caption were the best. Hilarious!
