Due to money I had to pull out of the Midwest trip. I think I'll be able to pull off at least one of these next year. The real prize for me would be to do the Europe trip. I have the Texas and East Coast trips as backups though. My main suggestion was to have a Missouri trip somewhere down the line. It sounds like SDC would be a big hit. (Cameron's TR is still fresh in my mind)

That's too bad you missed out on Top Gun. From what I hear it's one of the best B&M inverts.

^I'll go to the lighting ceremony of Ga Cyclone if they ever decide to burn it. Did you get a ride in on Batman? I missed Dahlonega and Canyon Blaster as far as credits go when I went last July. I really like the park overall though and will definitely try to go again whenever I visit my sister in Atlanta.

Don't know if this means anything, but when going up the lifthill on Anaconda at Kings Dominion, there seems to be some degree of activity in the area to the left. This area used to be where the Safari Monorail ran up until the early 90's. One rumor I heard was that under Paramount there was talk about the longest wooden roller coaster being built in this area. That idea was quashed due to maintenace concerns. Anyway, this area would be great for a hyper as KD is in definite need of a signature big steel coaster. CF/KD may go for something different if a new coaster is built with a B&M hyper and an Intamin both not too far away. Or maybe they'll go back to the originial idea of the longest woodie with an Intamin pre-fab?

Hershey is definitely on my to-do list this summer. How "fat friendly" are the coasters there? I guess at least one of the rides is fat friendly if they give you candy bars afterwards.

Ah--so that's how this trip went...

I've only been to SFOG and SFA. While I liked most of the rides at SFA (Wild One, Superman, abd Batwing, in particular), I was underwhelmed by the atmophere, employees, layout, and theming. I definitely want to go back soon and give it another shot though. I really liked SFOG and that gets my #1 nod...for now.

I'm expecting something above the level of quality at a former Paramount park but below a Busch park

Some people have expressed concerns that by judging by the park's construction progress they don't think it will be open by May 2008. What were your impressions, Jasper? (my own take is that it's too soon to get our panties in a wad)

If I'm able to go, count me in for Busch Gardens and Sea World.

From the looks of the pictures I wonder if the park is even going to make it to see the drop tower and big coaster.

Are Pink Things like Push-Ups? That's what they remind me of (except, they're pink). I also just want to add that the pictures look great. I was watching a Texas Rangers game in the early 90's and they did an aerial view of the Texas Giant--which was brand new at the time. I fell in love. Too bad it doesn't run like it did 16 years ago. Still, I can't wait for whenever I get down there.

I think the story here represents ethnic diversity of TPR. OP got mad at a hispanic at the park in urban LA for acting like trash. I get mad at the white trailer trash at a park in rural Virginia (KD).

That is so true about us. I'm one of the worst offenders. Looks like you guys had a great time. I've just resigned myself to the fact that KD will never measure up to my memories from the 80's and early 90's. I love Volcano but the park needs a new signature attraction. There did look to be some activity out where the Safari monorail used to run (I was looking over in that area while going up Anaconda's lift hill)... Derek, you got me excited at the thought of a Balder clone where Drachen Fire used to be. Not fair. Are the Intamin pre-fabs loud? I know noise was one of the reasons cited for not constructing a woodie in the past.
