  1. That actually was a plan that was being discussed quite some time ago...2001 or 2002 I believe. It was quickly ditched after Paramount saw the results of Son of Beast. Kind of makes you wonder if it might have happened if PKI had chosen a better manufactuerer or if possibly the Intamin technology was around then. --Robb Yeah, I got the impression from the guy who told me (at a Subway at 1 in the morning) that the plan for the longest was for a bit more recent installation. Maybe they had plans for something like that dating back to around when Grizzly was put up. However, since the Lion Safari was in full effect back then I have no idea where they would have put it 25+ years ago.
  2. I remember the commercials for Grizzly back in 1982. The coaster they showed in the ad was definitely not the Grizzly. I think the coaster they showed in the ad was actually the Beast. Before they showed the coaster it featured some mountain man/Grizzly Adams-looking dude and then the camera eventually shot to a train cresting a lifthill and you heard his voice yelling, "Griiiizzlyyyyyy....!!!" as it went down the hill.
  3. ^What about the land where the Lion Safari Monorail used to run through (you can see it on Anaconda's lifthill)? A hyper could fit in there. I heard that at one point there were plans to build the world's largest wooden coaster around that area but the park decided against it due to maintenance costs (not sure of the reliability of that tidbit anyway).
  4. Do the Invertigos at Great America and Kings Island go out of commission much? If not, then KDCoasterFan may have a point. I was at SFA yesterday and the crowds were pretty light. Dispatch times were pretty bad though. They were running two trains for Batwing except at one point it was sent to the other loading station and only two people (Flash Pass users?) were on the entire train. Then they sent it out empty after returning the two users to the station. That kind of inefficiency really bothers me.
  5. Superman at SFA 9/21 Crowds were pretty light and most everything was a walk-on, except for Batwing of course.
  6. I almost went with some friends Saturday but I had a little howl and scream of my own Friday morning when I stepped on a piece of glass with my bare foot. Healed up quick enough for me to go to SFA yesterday though.
  7. At first I couldn't tell if KT was miserable with the Furries or elated. She obviously loved them and she's quite Little Miss Adorable.
  8. Looks like a nice park. I really want to get out to Missouri and do a tour of Six Flags St. Louis, the Branson parks, and Worlds of Fun. The woodies at SFStL look really appealing although I'm sure Screamin' Eagle doesn't run as well as it did 30 years ago.
  9. There seem to be a lot of Intamin rockets in Europe. Too bad it's not an Intamin mega, although I don't know when I'd be able to get to Italy anyway. With 3200+ feet, this would make it the longest Intamin rocket though.
  10. Ah...that TPR really made me miss BGA. And I agree. I don't understand all the hate towards Gwazi either. While it's certainly not the greatest, it's not even close to being the death machine I imagined it to be (based on prevailing online sentiment).
  11. Well, I have some coupons that get me in for $25 so I'll be making the hike up I-95 on Sunday. I've only been once before so I'm interested to see how the park is doing. This park really does need some TLC from what I remember though. Does anyone know if they serve beer at this park?
  12. Resurrecting an old thread... Maybe it's because I haven't ridden too many coasters with this element, but I really love the dive loop. I rode Medusa a few weeks ago and it was the only element that got a strong reaction from me. I guess I need to go to Florida again soon and ride Kumba and Kraken. For now, dive loop reigns supreme for me.
  13. From about October 2000 to May 2006. I've always loved roller coasters but just didn't decide to make them a hobby until I could afford to make trips to parks other than BGE and KD. The other thing is finding friends who want to go to parks as much as I do.
  14. ^ Actually that sounds more like what I remember hearing as a kid and the decapitation thing was just inspired by more recent events.
  15. Yeah, I think those will be on my list for 2009 as well as whatever SFMM gets. If they allow credit whores then I'll also do Grover's Alpine Tours at BGE.
  16. I think I've posted in this thread before but I'll do it again: Anaconda--1991 Flight of Fear (KD)--1996 Apollo's Chariot--1999 Backlot Stunt Coaster--2006 Shamu Express (SWO)--2006 Expedition Everest--2006 Goliath (SFoG)--2006 Griffon--2007 Dominator (KD)--2008 Dark Knight (SFGAdv)--2008 Not sure but maybe: Grizzly (KD)--1982 Avalanche--1988 Hope to hit Fahrenheit in a few weeks as well.
  17. ^ The Galaxi at KD was one of my first credits and it's the only type of that coaster I've ever been on. This might have been one of those rumors that floated around as kids, but didn't someone get decapitated on the KD Galaxi?
  18. Ah--I had just been to BG on the 8th and probably couldn't have taken time off for those days anyway. I'll get on one of these trips and meet these people who have become cartoon characters in my head some day...
  19. Dag--TPR came to Virginia and I missed it... When abouts were the East Coast Trippers in the area?
  20. Ok, I'll bite. 7 inversions on 7 different coasters for me--Montu, Kumba, Hulk, Kraken, Great American Scream Machine, Medusa (East), and Hydra Don't think I'm going to be riding Dragon Khan or Colossus anytime soon so I'm stuck with adding more 7-inversion coasters to this list for a while.
  21. I had my first grey-out experience on Laser last year at Dorney during the first and second loops (felt it more on the 2nd). I thought it may be just this ride but have also felt similar on the Immelmans on Griffon and the loop on Dominator. I was thinking it might be my age catching up to me but we'll see. During my most recent trip to BGE and SFGAdv I was grey-out free.
  22. El Toro Friday night Would have been the perfect end to the day except something flew off from one of the riders and hit me on the side of the face. Nah--as long as I don't lose an eye riding the thing any ride is perfect on El Toro. My new #1!
  23. I actually made my first trip to Six Flags GAdv Thursday and had no idea there was a concert going on. The plan was to get there around 7pm (driving up from Virginia) and ride as many rides possible by park close and then my friend and I were coming back Friday with a Gold Flash Pass. We ran into some DC traffic and didn't end up getting to the park until around after 9pm. That was good enough to get one ride of El Toro in. Now I had heard stories about how packed this park was but was totally overwhelmed by the crowd "stampede" towards the exit as my friend and I were trying to enter the park. I was kind of dreading the next day because I thought the crowd would be equally bad. I finally realized that a fairly big concert had taken place the day before and the crowds weren't nearly as bad Friday.
  24. Today--Python Pit at Go-Karts Plus! in Williamsburg, Va
  25. Have to do the short increments because of my being sad and pathetic but here goes: 1) Scooby Doo (KD) 25) Two Face: Flip Side 50) Montu 75) Runaway Reptar 80) Python Pit (Go Karts Plus!) I hope to top 100 before the end of the year and if I do it will probably be at Hershey. Not sure if I'm going to try to make the milestone something memorable like Fahrenheit or Stormrunner. At my current pace I'll reach 200 by the time I'm 64! ... Edit to change most recent coaster credit from Dominator to Python Pit
