  1. Wow! I'm pretty stoked for this! Time to start losing some weight to make sure I can fit into whatever torture device they call a seat and restraining device...
  2. 178 for me. I'm only doing this thing once.
  3. Good and... disturbing stuff. This is a bit off (and on) topic. I had a dream the other night starring the pink panthers of TPR fame. I've never met any of them or been on any TPR trip (yet). It was more disturbing than good in the dream. If I recall they were competing in three-legged races like we were at a picnic or something. Oh well, Texas TPR, here I come!
  4. I've only been on 1 as well--Kingda Ka. Will have at least one more after the summer's done and I go on the Texas trip.
  5. Yeah, I'm not too sure what people can glean from anything until actual track pieces arrive, and even then we'll never know the full scope until an official announcement is made.
  6. "Brave" is the right word. I don't know about NoVa but the rain was crazy today.
  7. The rapids ride was open when I went there this past September. I've been to the park twice and no Skull Mountain for me.
  8. ^Yeah, count me in the "I like Nitro more than Apollo" camp. I had a 6-year gap in between my first two visits to BG (went for the first time in 1993, came back in 1999). I just remember being so intimidated and overwhelmed by the sight of Alpengeist. I was also like "what the hell happened to Drachen Fire? It was here the last time I came!"
  9. Sure we have! We figured out that it’s going to “X-works” theme park, and it’s a sitting coaster because the bar code says “SC”, and it’s not an inverted or flying coaster because the ties aren’t bent! We’ve accomplished plenty, and I’ll use this video to prove it! Also, "prototype"
  10. Love the old pics. Does anyone know what the Great America park would have been like in the DC area, or even where it would have been located? I wonder if there are any old blueprints...
  11. Great pictures all around. I really need to get to Europa Park at some point in my life!
  12. Never thought I'd imagine KD getting a B&M hyper but the thoughts on the splashdown make it possible.
  13. Thanks for the pictures. Lots of nostalgia-feel good moments. I definitely lost a hat or two on that Haunted River drop. I remember in the mid-1980's people were saying that King Kobra had a tendency to "jump the track". I didn't know what that meant back then but it scared the living crap out of me and I was glad it was gone. I kind of miss the thing now.
  14. Well, I really wanted to do the West Coast trip but I don't get that much vacation time and don't think I can swing the cost for that trip. I've heard so many good things about these trips that I wanted to do one. I had to bow out of the 2007 Midwest as well. So, I put my deposit down for the Texas trip and I think I should be able to do that in terms of overall cost and time off from work. So are we guaranteed spots if we've already put in our deposits? I know you guys said there'd be a lottery for the Scandi trip. Just wanted a little clarification. Looking forward to going to Texas (I finally have a good reason to)!
  15. If it weren't for the current economic climate, I do think KD would be getting something big in 2010. I just hope the majority of theme parks are able to weather the storm.
  16. Ok. You win. The park will never receive a decent addition again.
  17. ^Dick Kinzel (CEO of Cedar Fair) at a Q&A session said something to this effect in 2007. A seasoned poster on here told me about this.
  18. And actually there's pretty good reason to speculate the park might get something big within the next few years. Apparently Cedar Fair is pretty enamored with KD and its potential. Let's draw some parallels--KI received a transplant from Geauga Lake in 2007 and two years later they're getting a B&M hyper. KD received a transplant from GL in 2008 and in 2010...we'll see.
  19. ^As mentioned earlier in this thread, the park was already planning at one point to put up what would have been the longest wooden roller coaster in the world earlier this decade (but decided to drop it after Son of Beast's failure). That would have been a Paramount decision though.
  20. I'd rather see an Intamin prefab built there (maybe something like T-Express but with a longer or steeper first drop?) than a B&M hyper. That would certainly be unique to the area beyond an Intamin or B&M hyper. Wish I knew how Cedar Fair felt about those types of coasters.
  21. I never even knew there was a Busch Gardens LA. Was it themed zoo or something?
  22. Oh fiddlesticks. Sorry about the other thread I started.
  23. So which one's your favorite? I like Kraken, although Dominator's not too far behind. I count Sheikra and Griffon as dive machines so even though they're floorless I'm not including them in this poll. Mods, I did a search and didn't see this exact topic. If I missed something, my bad and close or merge at your discretion.
  24. ^Then you have Superman at SFA not too far away as well. This is why I think they might get a really big wooden coaster. That would mean an Intamin Prefab or Gravity Group though and Cedar Fair seems to really like GCI for their woodies these days. I think the park will get something big within the next 4-5 years though (if not sooner).
  25. Is Desperado really that bad? I remember when I first read about it it looked really awesome. Of course, I was more swayed by height, drop, length, and speed statistics back then.
