  1. ^I need to go with my nieces before they get too big so I can get the Taxi Jam credit!
  2. I concur with the general sentiment about the pictures. It was nice to see that it looks like some grass is finally coming in around Dominator. Griff--what sort of camera do you use?
  3. Yeah, I was going to say that the negative reaction to SDC was most definitely due to age. I've never been but if and when I do go I'm not going to treat it like I will for my first trip to SFGAdv. SFGAdv trip will be all about credit whoring and getting as many rides in on El Toro and Nitro as possible.
  4. Thanks for the TR. I was planning to visit some friends in Loveland and we talked about possibly going to Elitch and Lakeside. Alas, plans fell through and I'll have to visit this park maybe next year.
  5. And I call myself a coaster enthusiast*... Kings Dominion Busch Gardens (twice) I'll be visiting SFGAdv for the first time next week. I hope to hit Hershey and Knoebels in September. October and beyond? Perhaps some Florida parks? Dollywood? With any luck I'll be hitting triple digits myself by the end of the year. *I was so close to going to Boomer's in Dania Beach. I rode by it. Lousy family obligations (and family members who don't understand this little hobby of mine)...
  6. Wow--I'm surprised at all the SFoG hate. Mindbender, Goliath, Batman, Ga Scorcher, Superman all rocked and there was a lot more atmosphere and charm to the park than you'd expect (at least more than I expected.) At least you have trees, shade, and distinct themed areas. Have you guys been to SFA? Now there's a SF dump with some pretty good coasters.
  7. Timely thread. A friend of mine just moved to Munich and I was thinking about doing a trip to Germany next summer as well. I was thinking Holiday and Europa. Heide is about 6 hours away from Munich (according to Google Maps).
  8. I think the fact that KD's kept Flight of Fear from moving to Carowinds, received Dominator this year, and will possibly get 3 rides next year (used or not) shows that Cedar Fair likes the park and the potential there. I'm sure we'll see something big transpire in either 2010 or 2011.
  9. Ha--I never knew about that vow. We did have Apple Turnover which always reminded me of a Ferris Wheel when I was younger.
  10. Not sure what his exact plans might be but based on highly ranked coasters you might want to look at Hershey and Busch Gardens Europe. Kings Dominon is only about an hour or so from BGE and between those two parks you could get several top 50 steel roller coasters in--Apollo's, Alpengeist, Griffon, Volcano, and Dominator. KD's woodies aren't phenomenal but Rebel Yell and Grizzly can still provide some good rides. Hershey has a good colletction of top steel and wood. Hershey and BGE would probably provide a more quality overall park experience.
  11. ^SFMM might have a great one next year, depending on the GCI rumors.
  12. I bet most parks aren't actually greener with foliage 20 years later like Busch is.
  13. So are the coasters that will still be running at other parks Head Spin, Raging Wolf Bobs, Big Dipper, and Beaver Land Mine Ride (along with the ones that have already relocated)?
  14. ^ Not a fan of Dominator? I just want to mention that Wild One at SFA is an excellent woodie and doesn't get some of the recognition it deserves. I can't believe people prefer Roar to that one.
  15. I guess the only part I'm having trouble understanding is why you would ride it nine times if it sucks so much. I agree with Mechanic. Now, granted, it does seem like there wasn't a whole lot to do but if the ride was that bad it doesn't seem like it should take 8 more turns to figure that out.
  16. Couer d'Alene has a population less than 50K. Not quite a major city. I'd actually love to visit this park at some point though.
  17. Sorry the trip was crummy. I'll probably go one day after work just to ride Dominator and that will be my one trip for the year. I think I've had my fill of KD for a while.
  18. Not too noisy? Didn't Balder have to get giant walls put up to reduce the horrible noise it was making? I'm pretty sure prefabs scream loudly and obnoxiously anytime airtime is present, often referred to as the Intamin fart. I don't know. I thought they were quieter than your average woodie. I've never ridden one so I could be greatly misinformed.
  19. QFT It almost makes me miss the days of there being water skiing shows on Lake Charles.
  20. Umm... I really like Wild One and Superman. I still need to get the Joker's Jinx cred so I'll be making a return trip at some point this summer. I may get a Season's Pass if not just so I can get in to Great Adventure for free at some point this year. I agree with the other poster that this park looks like it may get sold or done up GL style.
  21. I'm with others in saying that an Intamin prefab might work. From what people say they're not too noisy. My current theory is that a B&M flyer will go up where DF used to be and they'll call it Drachen's Revenge. I guess we'll see after the reception of the flyer down in Sea World. Why is Gwazi considered such a failure? Does it have that low a ridership? (Personally, I liked Gwazi, but I'm in a minority there and my woodie count is pretty small.)
  22. Great pics, guys. I'm definitely going to have to take off work early one day next week and make the short hike up there. This is the exact kind of ride KD needs (as others have mentioned). Maybe it will take away from some of Volcano's line through hell.
  23. I have to travel to Lynchburg for work every now and then. I don't make it a priority to stick around too long and the huge Liberty/Falwell presence is evident. If they put a coaster up I'd sell my soul to get that credit.
  24. Woo--nice to see my first looping coaster is still running (when it was known as King Kobra)!
