  1. I was building a B&M Hyper a while back and this picture of Nitro's transfer track helped me out a lot. I'm sure there are plenty of pictures on RCDB, you just have to look around.
  2. If I remember correctly, that's not a trim, but a brake in case it valleys. Awesome trip report by the way! As of now, I'm going to KD next year for the first time...can't wait!
  3. I did a bit of research and came up with this... Those were some lucky employees!~Matthew Posted September 2, 2001...
  4. That sucks. I'm going to the park on Sunday. Oh well, that's the good thing about Cedar Point...they have a plethora of other coasters/rides that will make it hard to even notice Millennium is down.
  5. According to the CP blog, Millennium Force will not be the ride for tonight's Platinum ERT "due to mechanical reasons." Anyone know what's wrong with it?
  6. I really enjoyed Men in Black at Universal Orlando and Ghostwood Estate at Kennywood. Two quality dark rides that no one talks about.
  7. I find it funny when the GP come off rides that go like 70 MPH and that's the tallest and fastest thing they've ever ridden. I was at Darien Lake this past Friday, the 22nd, and I rode Predator with this random guy. He was saying how he was so surprised at how fast and big Ride of Steel was. He then asked me if I had ever been on a coaster as fast as that before, I just smiled, said yes I have, and thought to myself, "If you only knew."
  8. Anyone who cares, I ended up going and the park was empty all day long. Even with RoS's one train operation, the line was still a walk-on, and I never waited more than one train for anything else. I did see the OCC chopper, but that coaster and the Boomerang were closed the whole time I was there. I left at around 7:30. I was kind of bummed that there was no sign of life at all, all day long at OCC, except a couple of mechanics smoking every once and a while. I heard someone ask why those two were closed and a security guard said it's probably because of lack of staffing, which is a bummer, but it makes sense this early in the year. Staff did show up to Boomerang and they said they were going to open it later, but since it's only a boomerang, I didn't hang around to ride it. Oh well, I guess it's incentive to go back sometime. Overall great park and great atmosphere, I really enjoyed myself, and I don't think Predator is as bad as people make it out to be...there are woodies out there that are a lot worse.
  9. Not really a rumor, and not big enough to warrant creation of a whole new topic, and this thread seems ok to post it...TTD got stuck ta the top again. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm
  10. I just call them all either "parks," or their name.
  11. I highly doubt it. They are just for visual effects, and to cool off guests for the rides that do have a "splash zone," in my opinion. When riding Sheikra, I barely felt it, if I even felt anything at all, when going through the splashdown section. The train seemed like it came out going the same speed (or very close) as it was when it went into the section. I'm almost feel its impossible for the train to maintain the same speed due to the laws of velocity or something. Drag is being produced thus slowing the train. Even if its just 5-10 mph it is natural and doesn't require any operating cost Drag is being produced at all times regardless of what is going on. The train simply moving along the track produces drag. I was just saying that I don't believe the purpose of a splashdown is to slow down the train and/or to act as some sort of braking system.

  13. Ok cool thanks. I still have that episode saved on my DVR. I'm really looking forward to seeing one of their bikes in person! I just thought of something. Could it be possible that the hours are that way because it's Memorial Weekend? There isn't any particular even going on that day, just the fact that there might be a bit more people than usual.
  14. Another question. Is the OCC bike still on display? Just curious.
  15. Ok thanks, as long as I get to ride Ride of Steel, I'll be happy. It's just strange that they have nothing listed.
  16. Sorry for the double post, but 2 days and 72 views later, and no one knows?
  17. I plan on going to Darien Lake this Friday, May 22nd. I'm just curious as to why last Friday (the 15th), this Friday (the 22nd), and next Friday (the 29th) the hours of operation are from 9:30 am to 10:00 pm, instead of 10:30 am to 10:00 pm like the majority of the summer. Those are the only three days the whole summer with those hours. I looked at all the planned events for this summer and there is absolutely nothing going on this Friday. Why are they different? Is there something going on that day I should know about, that's unlisted, that would cause the park to be crowded? Thanks.
  18. Well they did remove trees near the Log Jammer and Racer for this year. Not saying Kennywierd is wrong when he said they were for a better view of Racer, but there could be more to it. If a coaster is built for next year, though, shouldn't there be some footers already, or at least some significant clearing?
  19. Just like they were supposed to "manhandle" the entire Eastern conference and cake walk to the Stanley Cup Finals? Please, you act like the Penguins have never thrown a hit. The Philly series that's all there was, hitting and fighting. Hell, Max Talbot got in a fight against Dan Carcillo in game 6, when the Pens were down 0-3, to trigger a comeback to take the series. Also, what about when Chris Kunitz blasted Kimmo Timonen? Not to mention taking hits from and trying to compete with a player who leaves his feet every time he throws one (Ovechkin). Watch highlights of Kunitz, Orpik, Scuderi, Gill, Malkin, Cooke, Guerin, Eaton, Boucher, Letang, Staal, Adams, Kennedy, etc. (not to mention the grinders that are regular scratches, but played all season long, like Godard for example), and I assure you that you will see physical play and hitting, and a lot of it. I disagree. I think that would deter people from watching because it's the exactly the same as last year. The ideal matchup out of the four remaining teams, in my opinion, would be Chicago and Pittsburgh. It would be the battle of the young stars, with Gary Bettman's "golden boy," Patrick Kane, being one of them.
  20. There has been a rumor the past year or so that Pitt Fall is going to be removed soon. By soon I mean perhaps within the next 5-10 years.
  21. While Magnum has gotten quite rough, it has never been painful for me. I enjoy riding it (and most coasters). It was my first "big" coaster back in 1999. Umm.... I rode Magnum for the first time in 1996. I probably hadn't been on any more than 50 to 60 coasters at that time. I didn't "get it" then either. --Robb "What does Expedition GeForce have to do with me not liking Magnum???" Alvey I think the point that Movieguy was trying to get across (even if it wasn't, this is another good point anyway) is that there are a lot of us who can't ride coasters and go to parks at will year round. Of course we are then going to have varied opinions. I know for me, there is only a 2-3 month window where I ride coasters and go to parks. Hell, I'll ride any coaster (and enjoy it) just because it's a coaster, knowing that in a couple months I will be going 9-10 months without riding anything.
  22. Thanks for sharing! Awesome pictures!
  23. Figures, I was there all last week and NOTHING changed. As soon as I leave they put a train on.
  24. I remember writing that, man that time went fast!
