  1. For future reference, try to go BEFORE July and August roll around. Last year I made the mistake of waiting a bit too long, went the end of June, and waited at least 30 minutes for practically everything, while the major rides were good 90-150 minute waits. To answer your question, I'd say sometime in the middle of the week. Either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. I'd suggest looking on their website at the calender to make sure nothing is going on the day you plan on going (i.e. Girl Scout Day, etc.), or it'll be extra crowded.
  2. I was there last year on a weekday in June and everything was a walk-on. I didn't wait for anything. You should be fine.
  3. How's my coaster Aftershock doing? I can't believe it's already been a year since I was out there for winning the naming contest. Seems like yesterday...
  4. That's actually nice considering some Cedar Fair parks milk major announcement for all they're worth and don't make them until September or October.
  5. Hence why I said, "depending on the type of launch."
  6. If a launched wooden coaster were ever built, depending on the type of launch, my guess is that the launch section would be made of steel, similar to Son of Beast's loop.
  7. I just watched his show too!! Apparently he was on a plane landing in Tampa Airport and the tires blew or something along those lines but they're unsure if that had anything to do with his death. Too many people dying. They said Billy was hit on the head pretty hard from things falling. Perhaps he had a concussion? You're not supposed to fall asleep if you have a concussion. Just goes to show that you should ALWAYS have everything properly stowed away, and your seat back and tray tables in their full and upright locked positions.
  8. Best Buy had Fable II on sale for $30. I bought it a week or two ago and can't put it down...such an addicting game.
  9. Yeah, it's still just as rough as an SLC, you just have nothing to hit your head against. Same principle applies for Wildcat at Hershey. It got brand new Millennium Flyers a few years ago, but I still think it's one of the roughest coasters I have ever ridden.
  10. As someone already said a few posts ago, it's probably to reduce the amount of support poles/columns used. It's a truss, like the one used on Desperado and various other coasters. Desperado

  12. I think some of you people are getting confused. An "Elevator Lift System" doesn't mean it's vertical. Just that it's a very similar cable system (almost identical) as the ones used on elevators. Millennium Force's lift system is officially called an "Elevator Cable System," and was the first of it's kind in the world.
  13. Mine is X at SFMM. There's nothing like that first drop, in my opinion. And yes, I've been on SheiKra, and X's "straight down" drop is so much better. I can't wait to get back out there and ride X2!
  14. Yeah, I'm not saying you're wrong, goatdan, I'm just throwing out different ideas. You do make great points in all your posts. I guess we'll have to wait it out and see.
  15. Sell it as firewood. $15 to fill up a utility trailer.
  16. ^ The second question is, "Out of all of the coasters in the world that you have not yet ridden, which one would you choose?" Doesn't matter when it was built. For me: Q1) ring°racer Q2) Tie between Balder and Expedition GeForce.
  17. Yeah, definitely. The theatre I was at was fairly full and everyone was howling every few minutes. I thought it was hilarious.
  18. No, I'm not missing anything. The lady reported that she got hurt on Son of Beast, so that's what they are going to inspect. Why would they shut down Flight of Fear, Drop Zone, Delirium, etc. if she reported that she got injured after SOB? I'm sure if she remembers not feeling well after riding anything else, she would have said so. If there was another ride that could possibly be dangerous, why would she keep it to herself and risk other people getting hurt? Also, the same can be said for any park that's had an accident. People have died at Disney on Rock N' Roller Coaster and Mission Space. Does that mean those rides were the sole reasons for triggering the deaths? No, but that's where it happened and those rides, and those rides only, were shut down and thoroughly inspected afterward. You're making a big deal out of nothing, this coaster is going through routine inspection. and if it weren't for it's previous track record, no one would care. When Kings Island confirms that it's closed for the remainder of the season, and when the first trip reports of 2010 show that it's still not operating, then there's reason for concern. As of now, it's not really that big of a deal, and at this stage, SOB is just going through an inspection and that's all. Don't be so quick to doom this ride just because of previous events involving it. It's possible that she had a mild headache earlier in the day and it progressively got larger as the day went on. I, along with most of the people I'm usually with at parks, get headaches all the time at parks. I have no idea when and where it started , just the fact that it was there. She could have just blamed SOB because it's easily one of (if not THE) roughest coasters in the park, and going back to my other argument again, if she said she got hurt on SOB, the park isn't going to ignore her and IS going to shut down the ride to inspect it.
  19. Just got back minutes ago from seeing Transformers. It was great, but as with most second movies in trilogies, I felt the actual story was lacking in parts, and really just used to piece together movies one and three. The action I give a 15/10, though, and the movie was still very awesome!
  20. It wasn't reported until mid to late June, a few weeks after the incident occurred. The park had no idea anyone was hurt until then. When they finally found out, they voluntarily shut it down immediately to investigate for any possible problems. The department’s Amusement Ride Safety Division is assigned to the investigation, which will continue until all information can be gathered and the next step can be determined. If an investigation reveals a problem with the ride, the department has the authority to mandate that it be shut down until the problem is fixed and a full inspection can be completed. Kings Island's spokesman, Don Helbig also said "it's too early to speculate when the ride will reopen." Notice he said "when" and not "if." http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/dayton-news/burst-blood-vessel-led-to-ki-roller-coaster-closing-173244.html?cxtype=rss_local-news
  21. B&M holds a patent for their splashdown effect. Unless It's considerably different, I doubt it. But you never know.
  22. I doubt it. If sending 27 people to the hospital didn't shut it down for good, I doubt this minor speed bump will. The fact that it's still the tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world is what keeps it going. My prediction is that as long as it hold those two titles, it will still continue to stand and operate, barring some extreme accident, of course. No matter how extreme maintenance costs are, wouldn't it be even more of an extreme project and task to remove it? It is fairly large, after all. The fact that they shut it down doesn't mean anything. They're inspecting the ride to make sure it's safe. As I've stated, it's a large coaster, and it's difficult to keep tabs on every inch of it at all times. Wood splinters and bolts fail...it happens. Rides where accidents occur are shut down all the time and thoroughly inspected before reopening, this is no different. Why put many more people at risk if there is, in fact something wrong?
  23. Either way, though she probably ignored the posted warnings and went on the ride anyway. That's usually the case with internal injuries such as this, heart problems, stroke, etc., the victim, in most cases, has a pre-existing condition. Now whether they know about it or not, you can still never be too cautious. I'll hold my dad (had a heart attack and bypass in 2007) off some rides because I believe they're too intense.
  24. I know, that's why I said "chain lift system." My point being, I don't think a chain being too heavy, or whatever other chain related reason, is why B&M doesn't build higher than 200-something feet, because it's been done before with a coaster 318 feet tall.
  25. Steel Dragon 2000 is 318 feet tall and uses a chain lift system...
