Hhappy
Today was the opening of Shambala at Port Aventura in Spain. I was not sure what to expect from this ride, but i can say that i was pleasantly surprised by the ride and the airtime it produces. The first drop in the back is great (as can be expected when being flung over the top of the lifthill) in the front the view down and basically not seeing where you are going is great as well. The speedhill produces a nice amount of air (more extreme then the rest of the ride) and the splash zone is cool due to the fact that the entire train can see it and you are riding that tunnel opposed to creating a "wake" behind you. It's long enough and a lot of fun (i think) Here's the POV And here's a few pictures from today. Enjoy part1 now look at that view but first things first, presentation time a show with fire?? plus just chillin timeline / history of the park theming concept arts technical details about the ride how to explain airtime more details next show, this time music just rocking a breeze is always nice is it time to ride?? more shows lots and lots of camera's important people theming, which confused me for a second.. it's shambala yeah confetti lots and lots of camera's and yes, there were plenty people the suits get to ride the first train front row fun these trains are really pretty an empty station (which was rare for the rest of the day) the new skyline wheee better picture of the entrance portal fake snow always helps the station/que building random riders up the stairs to ride the ride and the express is that way Hi Larry it's a globe.. (i think) for all the nuts and bolt enthusiast walls of water going up going down water spray starts before the train gets to that point don't worry, it's only water look mommy, i'm over here first drop fun is getting started.. second row right: mommy gravity can be very annoying and off they go big drop another train wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen in the distance (helix) i spy hairtime weee sorry Hkan, we won't forget you that is a big drop going up it opened may 12th hello red coaster track plenty of details in the area the water/splash area here they come there is a coaster in this picture Edited May 13, 2012 by robbalvey
Hhappy
part2 and up we go (again) more theming splash as seen from the other side looking up this is where you can get your onride picture (and video) another look at the station the exit is below motor time and yes.. it'sway bigger then Khan so this is what a 2 hour wait looks like? view from some extra que area looking at the station from this extra que area blue grey red white.. that's a lot of colors almost looks like a maze with all these supports and the ride has not even started yet.. you still have to go up wheee i believe i can fly and skloosh but Khan still deserves some love as well another look at all the folks waiting to ride overview that's a "close" call getting ready for more air and away they go another bit of theming i see hairtime yup, they are smiling, so i guess they are enjoying the ride yikes, happy it's a close call and not a full wardrobe mishap hmm, airtime the Dragon is still there i don't mind this view Khan is doing it's thing the entrance arch when walking from the other side Helix fun it does look pretty more random things close but no sigar they look so tiny another random bit of theming take the tunnel better look at that globe thingy one more look at the station building theming at the end of the exit that's the end of the ride transfer track it's a different view no collission one final look at that figure 8 and that's it Edited May 12, 2012 by Hhappy
cfc
I love seeing a bunch of suits and ties on a coaster train. Looks like a great, tangled mess of track between Shambala and Khan, too. Great pictures, as usual, Hanno. Based on the PRV, I'd say that this is a better ride than Leviathan, but I guess I'll have to check both of them out to make sure. Dragon Khan
Those pictures just blew my mind. I cannot wait for my Khan pilgrimage (end of august) and after seeing lot of hair up, I have come to expect very good things from Shamby as well. I remember how slow the start of construction was, and even with the track complete, I couldn't have guessed this area of the park would look THAT nice THAT fast. Good job as usual Port Aventura. I also dig the train colours on DK !!! Edited May 12, 2012 by Dragon Khan

australianalex
Great pics, Shambhala looks awesome! I love how the ride has no trims (except maybe on the speed hill?) and even the splashdown doesnt slow it as it's artificial. Definitely looks better than Leviathan IMO. Did those second generation trains have that dreaded B&M rattle everyone was talking about?

Geauga Dog
Just got home from Kings Island and I see these awesome shots of Shambhala. It's all the little details that make it a complete ride. Love the look of the area around the coaster, the colors on the trains, and the detail on the tunnel. The water feature is truly unique as I thought it would have those scoops like on Diamondback. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
Real
Good set. I can say that with a long lens, you can get your fair share of wardrobe malfunctions. I have had a few from Maverick that were NSFW. You almost got a few. This ride looks very, very photogenic. Hard to take bad photos. Kudos to Port Adventure!
GeorgeT
Awww...so nice to see this thing. Watching Skyrush`s testruns made me soooo jealous not to live closer...but this looks to me like it could be B&M s best hyper so far...so I`m happy to be European again...at least for the moment Thanks for taking all those great shots...thanks for all the effort ! Dragon Khan
Could this and Khan be the best B&M combo ever ? And Hanno: What did you think of Dragon Khan ? Is it still the intensity beast it has always been ? I like how those 2 coasters will offer totally different experience. This is a very well rounded park now. If only they could do something to Stampida and maybe find a solution to Baco's edge seat vibration problem... Alos, even if it's NOT for tomorrow, I wonder what's next at this park I personally adore...

Hhappy
How does Shambhala compare to other B&M hypers? I prefer Shambala to Behemoth (but it has been a while since i've been on Behemoth) It's a tad bit faster it has a funky figure 8 element, a speedhill which produces more then enough airtime a splash and enough other airtime moments... It even looks like the ride is getting faster (and better) during the day
