honestly, the only dissappointment this year as far as i have heard is RUN.... i didnt make it in there last night, so i am unsure... but the first nights are always sort of a feeling out period... i will say this though... nothing is scarier than small asian girls *shudder*.

Personally, I was really disappointed in the event's scare factor more than anything, but it was opening night and I still expect the cast to improve over time. All three soundstage houses look great thematically and just ooze with potential. Now it's up to the talent to fulfill it. RUN would be a solid house with a few tweaks (like EDDIE!!!) The others were a pretty big letdown, with People Under the Stairs and Dungeon of Terror being downright awful. PsychoPath, while short, can still be salvaged. Pretend there's only five houses and it's not a bad event.

My main complaint is the lack of scarezones. There's only three, with NONE of them being in the back half of the park. The street atmosphere is just as bad as HHN 14's because of this. One of the scarezones, Blood Masquerade, is out of the way of everything, which doesn't help.

The shows are pretty good, although the lagoon show is boring as hell. Don't wait up for it. It might as well be considered atmosphere rather than an organized show. I would have much rather seen a parade.

Eddie is Jack's little brother. He fits into the maze because... well... he's supposed to be it's main character. It's loosely based on Hostel, it isn't ABOUT Hostel. Go look at the 2001 drawer on the site or click the chainsaw blade on the RUN page for more information.

Here are my expecations for this year. Worst to best.

HOUSES

People Under the Stairs: Under Construction- Probably the year's "bad spot."

Run: Hostile Territory- Not sure.

Psycho Path: the Return of Norman Bates- Going through the actual nightmares of an insane person sounds creepy to me.

Dungeon of Terror: Retold- Sounds greatly detailed and pretty scary.

Psycho Scareapy: Maximum Madness- Clowns and insane asylums put together?

All Nite DrIvE In: Take 2- The Ring and The Ring 2 are some of my favorite horror flicks.

Screamhouse: Resurrection- Enough said.

SCAREZONES

Horror Comes Home- Looks o.k.

Blood Masquerade- Interesting.

Deadtropolis: Zombie Siege- That alleyway looks terrifying.

Harvest of the Souls- Amazing looking set.

For the shows, I can't really say.

18 more days!

Your first paragraph is (sort of) spot on. If past years are anything to base it on - which they are - then it will definatly improve as we go through October. Seems like the closer it is to Halloween the more involved and the more excited the scareactors are. Last couple years it was almost a completely different event when I went in week 3 or 4 compared to opening night. Not only do the scareactors get more involved, but Universal changes the houses as well (nothing extreme, but small stuff suchs as relocating scareactors or possibly adding more).

My complaint with Blood Masquerade is that it's TOO small. It's nuts. Like three props and 6 scareactors, and a 100ft walk. Lame. Harvest of the Souls just needs more manpower, and Deadtropolis isn't bad at all.

Ok, my review/trip report of the second night of HHN!

First off, we (my wife Freyja and myself) got to Universal at about 3pm after spending our whole morning at Magic Kindom and heading to Epcot for lunch at The Land. We went straight to the Mummy to get in a Pre-HHN ride, we saw the AP zone and heard the terrible music and were glad we would miss at least 20min while in line for Mummy.

So, after a great ride on Mummy (minus the false unload scene being in a bit of a b-mode) we headed over to the AP "Party Zone", music wasnt my type... but zombie hookers... well that sways me over. They then announced they would be opening Screamhouse for us at 5:30, so at about 5:40 they opened up Screamhouse while they had the Zombie Break Squad out breakdancing.. (!?!)

We went through Screamhouse and then they opened All Nite Die In and by the time the park had been open to guests for 10min we had been through Screamhouse, Die In and Psychoscarepy.

(i will review the houses and such at the end.)

So, after those we decided to try to catch the first B&T show and well... we got distracted in Deadtropolis (Zombie Hookers!) and ended up missing the fist show so opted for Last instead... So we went into Dungeon of Terror... and wandered toward Psychopath and PUTS and saw the 75min waits and went over to grab food and watch Universal 360 and the Arrival... went through Harvest of Souls... Hit Mels for cheap eats

Universal 360: The Directors Cut- Ok, now admittedly i have yet to catch the normal show... i usually leave before then.. i love universal.. but im usually done by 5. It was... ok, i watched a family leave disgusted at the zombie gore lol... i liked the bits with the Icons... overall an ok show.

The Arrival- Ok, this was AWESOME. My wife has a thing for Darkness so she loved the show, we both loved his minions...but the Icons were great. I loved the rituallistic setup of the whole thing, won't ruin it for those who have not seen it... great great show.

after that we went and did psychopath... Great house... horrible queue... more on that in review.

our feet were hurting from being at it since 9am so we sat down for a bit and waited for the last B&T show... but ill save that review for last... and now THE HOUSES!

Screamhouse:ressurection- Ok.. i have to say this house was great... all the Cindy references everywhere was AWESOME and Caretaker was all over the place. I got it good from a Caretaker that hopped out of nowhere running at me... beautiful... speaking of beautiful the set design was gorgeous. 4/5

All Night Die-In take 2- Ok, well The Director is my favourite Icon but i was a little apprehensive of this year's after hearing about the movies involved. The opening scene in The Director's studio is cool and he got up in my face saying "Don't be afraid.. it's only me." The scream part started off bad... Drew Barrymore girl was AWFUL... but the garage scene was cool! Then we went into The Ring part... OMG i thought this was going to be lame... i have NEVER heard that much screaming in terror in my life... nothing scarier than small asian girls. The Hellraiser part was cool, famale Cinobite heard me and the wife call her hot and got in our faces saying "mmmmm... i can smell your sins...." I'll end my thoughts there... 5/5

Psychoscarepy- Ok, i had heard all the hoopla about no Jack but i will say this one was pretty decent, i couldnt enjoy it too much though cause the guy behind me was going on about how he could kick anyones asses and was talking on his cell phone throught the house. I will say this though... the bathroom... disgusting... I could have lived my whole life without the illusion of having a toilet spray me with feces.... I got sprayed... ugh... that gives this house a higer rating cause it illicited a reaction out of me... though it may have been shudders and screams of "WHY!!!!!! OH GOD!!! UGGHHH" AND Jack was in his full glory at the end... they fixed it folks.

4/5

Dungeon of Terror- Not a fan of The Storyteller... just sort of a weak Icon to me... but i love House of 1000 Corpses. overall i liked this house, it wasnt great but it wasnt terrible. i didnt get scared, but i did enjoy it. One bad part was near the end, i hear from behind a curtain "Heads up folks" real quiet then the guy pops out with the drill.... warning me first... BAD.

3/5

Psychopath- ok, ummm the queue for this sucks... i mean i was pretty sure when i reached the INTERSECTION that i might need a handstamp to get back into the park!!! Poorly planned. The house however... I loved, the whole in normans mind concept was neat and the Disentorium parts were neat...

4/5

Will do RUN and PUTS this weekend. 75 and 90 minute waits kept me away.

The scarezones this year... I loved Deadtropolis... but HOS didnt do much for me.. niether did BM. I miss Midway of the Bizzare and the Festival of the Dead parade.

The Rat Lady procession was awesome.

B&T- OMG! I thought this years show was great... offensive, brash, beautiful. The Mel Gibson joke was beautiful, and Sthupermaaann! was FABULOUS! loved the show... Tom and katie was great, Katie had great... umm.. floatation devices. 5/5

overall review 4/5

I was taking most the pics minus the many pics of Darkness... those were hers. More Pics next weekend!

My complaint with Blood Masquerade is that it's TOO small. It's nuts. Like three props and 6 scareactors, and a 100ft walk. Lame.

Was it even 100 ft. ?? I didn't even need to walk through there to get to anything, but I did just to see it, then I blinked, so I had to go through it again.

I pretty much feel the same as most of you, I was there both nights and Scream house and Die-in where my favorites. I thought I saw Jack on Saturday night, but defiantly didn't see him on Friday, but the house was better Fri. night, go figure.

I didn't see Eddie at all, I also agree with the PutS being way too lit up for the LED helmet gag, but the shotgun gag was pretty cool!

The only good scare zone was HotS and by good I mean cool looking not scary. Deadtropolis only had the stripper zombies going for it, plus the zombies where all so well dressed.

Right now, if I wasn't going back, I would say I'm a little disappointed. But....

I'm gonna reserve all my opinions until I go back in 11 days, I feel that they didn't have their poop together. I feel the houses and scare zones have a lot of potential, except Blood Masquerade, it needs to move some place that people can see it and grow another 500 ft.

I did enjoy the Bill and Ted show, I never thought in all my years of going to theme parks I would ever hear a Universal Studios employee say" Balls Deep!!" over a PA in a major show, it is making me laugh a little right now just thinking about it.

Bottom line is right now I'm a little upset for many reasons, some US fault and some the idiots I went with. But I am still gonna go back in 11 days and give it another go. Hopefully I will have more fun, I really don't want to say HOS had better houses 2 years in a row

We will see after 2 weeks

I just got back from HHN and I thought it was very well done this year. There will be more photos and a report tomorrow in my FL trip report, but I just thought I'd show you what this year's pin looks like for those who collect them, and also the back of their "good" tshirt for 2006.

I am the "Daddy Gimp" in the PUTS House. You will find me near the end of the house, just past the large compressor and underneath the stairs. Give a shout out to "Flea". Hopefully you will come through when the "B" cast is in the house as we ROCK! I also hope you enjoy the toilet and our nail guns!

Are you the very last guy? The one before the exit that jumped out at me and stuck his tongue out? Hahaha.

No I'm just before that, lurking under the stairs. There is another daddy in leather at the very end though. Doubt that he stuck his tongue out at you though as we have metal bars over our mouths.

PUTS is one of the houses I had to miss as the lines as like an hour and a half... How does that shotgun trick work? Everyone seems to think it's the highlight of that house.

The body part grinder in RUN was one of the only effects that really made me jump, lots of new evil tactics this year!
