jacket250 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Dollywood is a fantastic park. The food is awesome and unique, the location and atmosphere is beautiful, the coasters they do have are thrilling and fun, and their staff is so friendly.
chadster Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Well, I suppose those that live around there should be on the lookout for track in fields
Thom25 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Any speculation as to the ride type given the track discovery?
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Any speculation as to the ride type given the track discovery? I still say wingrider, given the hints Dollywood has dropped thus far.
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I find it highly unlikely that it would be a hyper, given how many there are in the region. I also don't think it would be an invert, wouldn't really fit the park. I'll go ahead and throw floorless out the window, those don't get built anymore. It's not a dive machine, track isn't big enough. So at this point, it's gotta be a flyer or a wing rider. My money is going on a wing rider since that track looks like standard B&M fare.
Shavethewhales Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I've been trying to track down similar B&M coasters that have the rail bolted on with the two bolts at the end as shown in those photos, but haven't found any yet... I did find that this is exactly the track everyone said would go to Parc Asterix, it's not a different set of blue track as I had thought before. So I would assume that means it's for an Invert given the track code that we saw in the lot. Still could be for DW, as the teaser banners at DW have had hints regarding the sky. Seems logical that a flight themed B&M invert could be on the way for DW. I don't want to get hopes up just yet though, it very well could be headed to Parc Asterix after all...
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^Eek. I don't think an invert would fit that park at all, but I guess I can't complain about another American B&M invert being installed if that's indeed what happens.
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I thought the same thing, the color is very close indeed. But wouldn't the track be loaded in a shipping container? Or at minimum heading north or east to a port?
BaMiTsPaT Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^Flyers seem too "high-tech" too me. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the way that flyers look and the cool loading/unloading procedure doesn't seem "rustic" enough for Dollywood, but it'd be awesome to have another flyer!
Skycoastin Steve Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^B&M in general isn't "rustic" enough for Dollywood. But as Bob Dylan once said, the times they are a changin'.
downunder Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 A wingrider would be a good addition (at least I'd be happy) and would give them something unique for North America. Though the camelbacks of a B & M hyper do emulate Dolly's most impressive physical traits.
Shavethewhales Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Meh, they managed to make Wildfire fit into SDC pretty well, I'm sure they have their magic ready for whatever this will be. I just hope it's not too visible on park. With Thunderhead and MM, having the track visible from so much of the park isn't so much of a problem because they fit in with the theming of the area, but a big blue B&M will definitely stick out. I just hope they don't ruin what little classic aura DW has left. Here's hoping the theming is out of this world.
tntornadox Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) Given the amazing level of detail Herschend Creative poured into Mystery Mine and the entire Timber Canyon area really, I imagine this will be a well themed attraction regardless of what it is. Edit: The more I look at the track, it doesn't seem to match up with the pieces on hand at Asterix... Asterix: Mystery track: Mystery track is a darker shade of blue it seems to me and the cross ties don't exactly match up in shape. Edited June 7, 2011 by tntornadox
rosscoe Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 China and Dollywood in 2012 seems to be a rather grand plan
Shavethewhales Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^^Hmm, well the track ties do seem to be different, but it's kind if hard to tell for sure. I can't tell about the color - the lighting really affects that, but they do seem extremely close. I still find it weird the way the rail is bolted on with the two bolts at the end - my cursory glance of B&M track didn't find any other coasters with this. Maybe it's a recent design change for B&M? If they are different coasters, it's strange that B&M is producing such similar track for two different rides, but it makes this whole thing interesting
Solid Gold Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 If Dollywood: Please be an invert. But my money would be on Wingrider. Some sort of country flying machine soaring on the top of the hill, overlooking that side of the park.
Ed Farmer Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 ^Eek. I don't think an invert would fit that park at all, but I guess I can't complain about another American B&M invert being installed if that's indeed what happens. I've thought for years that a ground hugging inverter would be the ultimate addition to the park- maybe less inversions and more meandering similar to Montu post-MCBR, but using the natural terrain to accomplish it. I dunno. Whatever it is, I hope it isn't a flyer. Haven't been on Tatsu, but as for the rest of them- keep it.
coasterbear30 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I think something that is important that everyone is missing is that one of the clues is that this will be a first for the US. Flyers and Inverts are already in the US, so what does that leave? Wingrider! If the guy driving the truck said they were headed to Dollywood then I would see no reason to doubt them unless they were told to lie about it, which I doubt is the case. Sounds like we may have a winner.....
Hilltopper39 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Maybe a mini Dive machine like Krake at Heide Park? No one has mentioned that yet. I think if they used the mountain setting right a vertical drop coaster might work really well there, throw in a few different inversions besides than the immelman and you've got American's first mini loop screwing terrain Dive Machine!
BeemerBoy Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 If it's real, I'm incredibly happy that DW is getting a B&M at last, definitely a park that can use one. Why? I've been trying to track down similar B&M coasters that have the rail bolted on with the two bolts at the end as shown in those photos, but haven't found any yet... Like this......? Raptor at Gardaland.
ArchiDave Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I think those 2 bolts you are referring to are simply there to hold a cap in place on the ends of the rails for shipping purposes...so water, debris, etc doesn't get into the rails during shipping.
Gerstlauer1 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I would guess a terrain, B&M Wingrider, very intense. That would be freaking awesome!
RollerCoasterSmi Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I think Bolliger & Mabillard (if it is) should make a terrain hugging mega coaster (maybe with a few inversions). I have only ridden one of their mega coasters (Silver Star at Europa Park) and I thought it was awesome (I don't think the trims were on). Of course I think that everyone will be hoping for the same thing; B&M 4D LAP BAR ONLY LAUNCHED ROLLER COASTER. I think whatever it turns out to be or whoever makes it, I hope it has some inspiration by Lisebergbanana, swooping drops, low to ground and making use of the Dollywood terrain.
