ahhculdee Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Definitely a Dollywood resort and family launch coaster (aka Firechaser Express, maybe it's a sequel to Blazing Fury) with attractive 42' height limit.
ernierocker Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 ^A 42" height limit would be nice. PowderKeg has a 42" height limit, but most launched coasters are at least 48" I believe. Even Manta at San Diego is 48". Probable has something to do with the state it is in.
SharkTums Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 ^A Powder Keg type ride would certainly get our vacation dollars and possibly a TPR Trip next summer! Especially since KT has named Powder Keg her number one steel coaster!
ernierocker Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 ^Especially a Powder Keg with a highly themed dark ride section. I still think this will be more on the level of Manta at SeaWorld San Diego, but will of course be thrilled with something with the intensity of Powder Keg!
Vonni Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I love the idea of the launch coaster, I just dont like the name that has been circulating. Firechaser Express? Meh....
Bobby2889 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Lots of digging and surveying going on, on the AM site. Looks like they are preparing to get construction into full swing once the announcement is made. I was also told, by park security, that Dolly herself will make an appearance in the parade today.
dollywood48 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 She's on the park today? I was hoping she would do a parade on Wednesday after the announcement. Today's clue: opening
ahhculdee Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 "Opening in 2014" is part of the sentence obviously.
Bobby2889 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 She is here. Apparently she's been filming a commercial for something and is doing a parade. Currently waiting on the parade.
bkwjjm Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I have a friend who works at Dollywood in marketing. I tried to get some "inside information", but she is refusing to spill the beans. LOL! I guess I'll have to wait for the announcement like everyone else. The suspense is killing me though.
Wes Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks to you we're going to make Dollywood into an Outlet Mall in 2014, sponsored by Express for Men. I still think this is the best guess so far. Still the most educated guess.
PhilipB Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I'll just leave this here... http://www.bullocksmith.com/portfolio/cat8/project5.html
SuperShawn Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 ^ Interesting find. If that is indeed the concept they are going with I'll be happy. The Dollywood cabins are done so well that a whole resort with that same feel and inspiration would be perfect. Especially if some of the rooms have the ridiculous large and awesome wood bunk beds found in the cabins. Getting more anxious for the announcement on the 21st.
Wes Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Looks really nice. Hopefully it's close to the concept art.
PhilipB Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 This is all at Dollywood if you look closely. It basically takes up the entire land between the parking lot and Thunderhead. The wooded ridge that's east of tram road and the parking lots, across the river. The cabins will be built all the way down the ridge all the way to tram stop F (Far left of the site plan)
coasterfreaky Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Niiiiice! I've heard she was filming today, for the Today show next week.
Shavethewhales Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Just a note: if its been posted online already it's usually a sign that the concept was rejected. You can find a number of similar concept skeches for sdc, but the story behind most of them are that the company developed them as a portfolio piece/practice and the park wasn't interested. Could be different this time though. I imagine it's in the same vein at least. I really like it.
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 This isn't really a "Dollywood" post, but I know many of you are fans of all things Dolly (as I am). Awesome find, Dolly's iconic song Jolene slowed down 25%. It sounds absolutely amazing. [youtu_be]http://youtu.be/CzYHllLv_IE[/youtu_be]
maverickpoint Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 ah crap. the next clue is 'in 2015' that sucks :/
ernierocker Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 ^It will be okay. One attraction will be for next year (the rumored coaster) and the other will be for 2015 (the rumored resort)
dstephe9 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Yes, with the tease wall we know the ride will be the 2014 announcement so no worries about the ride! I am excited
