Shavethewhales Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I haven't been following this that closely; have there been any overt clues leading people to the resort rumor, or is it just an educated guess? I know it's something that's been on their radar for some time now, it just seems like it's so soon somehow. Even if they are getting the resort, I certainly couldn't see it going where AM was. At most, I could see them doing the resort outside the park, with a new family ride of some sort on the AM site.
bkwjjm Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I think it's going to be a launched coaster similar to Cheetah Hunt at BGT, but with a Smoky Mountain theme. I agree that the location of the project pretty much rules out any chance of it being a resort this year, but I'm sure a resort is in the future.
coasterfreaky Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 It's mostly an educated guess Shave. We know a hotel was planned around the time the recession hit. The website address is destinationdollywood.com, one could believe that means a hotel or resort is in the works. And Dolly saying this is the "biggest announcement ever" adds fuel to that. I don't believe they would put a hotel where AM was since there is no proper access road to get to it. AM is deep in the park. Some of us have discussed where we thought the hotel would go on the property way back in this thread a while back, before page 70 I'm sure. I think the benefit of having a hotel would be year-round income, so probably off Veterans blvd is my guess...very close to the park...or adjacent to the parking lot. Just my guesses.
maverickpoint Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Getting really excited for this announcement. The anticipation is killing me. I only hope it's a launched roller coaster.
jray21 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks to you we're going to make Dollywood into an Outlet Mall in 2014, sponsored by Express for Men. I still think this is the best guess so far.
HWFan Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Whether it's at Dollywood or not, but has anyone been wondering when the first launched woodie is gonna be built? I know that the Timberliners were designed to be launched, and I'm sure rocky mountain would be willing to maybe try it sometime.
Wes Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks to you we're going to make Dollywood into an Outlet Mall in 2014, sponsored by Express for Men. I still think this is the best guess so far. Same.
Bobby2889 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Will be going to Dollywood this weekend Fri-Sun. Will look for any changes on the construction site.
Guy T. Koepp Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I'll be there Saturday. I'm looking forward to seeing any changes to the wilderness pass area.
maverickpoint Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Today's clue is FAMILY .... well of course
arby Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I was offered a survey by Dollywood a few months back about a resort. They tend to be more focused on their surveys, so after I answered the first few questions about my family and I, it decided I didn't fit the demographics they were looking for and ended my survey before I could tell exactly what it was for.
coasterfreaky Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Dollywood posted this behind the scenes video ... [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
dstephe9 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I am thinking resort because of one reason 1.) Where the heck are they building a structure and building that big inside Dollywood at this moment? If it was hidden up the train loop you would be able to see it somwhere on the train. I have been looking inside dollywood and can assure you it is not around the train loop anywhere haha So if the building in that video is their new "whatever" I would say it is a resort hidden somwhere else on dollywood property.
chickenbowl Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I'm thinking it will be the family-launch coaster AND the Resort! I REALLY want to go back to Dollywood next summer!
2012jarrett Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I was just there not too long ago. I asked some employees what it was and they said they were being told next week. Got a good video construction update and you can see pieces of AM from the top of Thunderhead. No track though.
ernierocker Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 The video shows that Brian was in two different locations. One was on the maintenance road above Adventure Mountain (where the new ride is going) and another undisclosed location where a "building" is being constructed.
kittygrrll Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 First post from a long time lurker we were at dollywood Monday and were talking to an employee who said launch coaster. Idk how accurate that is, but we just asked "what is the big announcement" and that's what he said. I really enjoy this forum. We don't get to a lot of parks, but my Dd and I love coasters. Ds just rode his first big coaster, mystery mine, followed by wild eagle. forgive any punctuation and/or spelling errors, I am on kindle fire
dstephe9 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I am also thinking launch coaster and a resort. They are obviously constructing a building in that video. I wonder where this building will be if it is a resort? I would say around the parks main property somewhere bc I would assume the resort would be on property or at least very very close to the park.. Theme park resorts are only cool if they are around the park! According to screamscape Dollywood did file the permits for the resort yesterday Dollwood owns a lot of property up on McCarter Hollow road, some of which they asked to be rezoned only a year ago (Like over 100 Acres).. I wonder if the resort is going to be behind the parking area somewhere on McCarter Hollow. They also own a lot of property around the old entrance area but a lot of that area is very trashy (If I recall there is even an old junk yard type area, not owned by dollywood, but it is visible from a lot of Dollywoods land on that side)
Shavethewhales Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I'm trying to wrap my head around how DW could run a resort right now with their schedule and offerings. I know other parks do it, but it seems like DW needs more time to set things up for the resort to really integrate with the park. I wondering if it will start out as more of just a DW-branded hotel, and more offerings, perks, and expansions will be added on in the coming years.
dstephe9 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Dollywood runs a season much longer than most parks so the schedule doesn't seem to be the problem to me. I am still trying to wrap my head around the location. I know a lot of parks have hotels that aren't around the main park but when I think of theme park resorts I think of Disney, cedar point, Universal and other parks where the resort is right there in the middle of the action. Maybe it will just be a Dollywood branded resort and they will use it differently than other theme park resorts. I am hoping it is on the main park somewhere though. Pigeon Forge has enough hotels and resorts maybe put dollywoods somewhere on veterans blvd
PhilipB Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 My guess on location is somewhere off of Veterans Blvd. DW owns a lot of that land, even if it doesn't look like it. Anywhere else and I feel like they'd have to do some road construction.
dstephe9 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Anyone notice anything being built like that building anywhere around veterans Blvd. From the video it looks like it would be very noticeable now. One thing I find interesting, I would think a building big enough to be a resort would have steel framing. The structure in the video looks all wood.
dstephe9 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 It probably means new is used twice in the sentence. They are giving us a sentence that we can all try and unscramble. That's just my guess. We all already have the feeling that they will announce two "New" things anyway. The video took place at two locations.
