My volunteer list is very lengthy...

I volunteered at a blood drive one year, then ended up coordinating it the next.

Vacation Bible School - year after year after year.

I would go in to my school after hours and I volunteered as a student mentor.

I volunteered at a State Park and helped maintain habitats and collected donations to re-landscape.

I volunteered at a summer camp, as a counselor.

I volunteered in an office for my school. I was just a boring old student assistant (what I'm actually getting paid for now at college!)

I volunteered at a local swimming pool, helping to teach kids swimming lessons.

I volunteered for my athletic department, filming all the basketball games.

Also when I volunteered for my athletic department, I was the head coordinator for all the cross-country meets and track meets. I was the head timer and official.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right off the top of my head.

I volunteered for the US Open (One of golf's 4 Majors) when it was at Olympia Fields in 2003. I had a good time, although I wish I didn't get stuck in the merchandise tent. But for the week I had to work at least 4, 5 hours shift so it wasn't too bad.

Just a week of passing out candy at a local event called, "Boo at the Zoo." I pretty much stole my volunteer pass so I can get in for free to ride the crazy flat rides again next year!

Oops, did I say that out loud?! (No, they let us keep them.)

Volunteering can be fun and can lead to some pretty awesome stuff!

I deal with Volunteers everyday at my job and have written them letters of recommendation, gotten them jobs, given them free stuff and awards, etc.

I would go for it!

I'm hoping the world blows up or something, before the deadline comes for me to turn in my manditory 40 hours of community service papers.

I volunteer worked for the 1990 Gay Games in Vancouver.

Have done volunteer work (on and off) for A Loving Spoonful, here in town, helping raise $ for more food to buy and distribute.

That's great that you are looking to get involved at a young age!

I work as a youth coordinator for our local volunteer agency. Among my many duties, I am in charge of our youth volunteers program from high school students.

May I suggest, checking out similar organizations in your school or community as they might have great opportunities to not only volunteer but to get to know some cool people. Additionally, its never too early to start thinking about scholarships! It pays to help others

Ooh... I love volunteering! (But I wish Elissa was my volunteer coordinator...)

Anyways, I volunteer at my local IMAX theatre (photo on avatar.) Well, techincally it is the Putnam Museum and IMAX theatre. However, I almost always work in the IMAX area. In total, I have volunteered for more than 200 hours (far above the required 30 at our school) at the IMAX, since September 2005. I am the only regular volunteer who works as a virtual 'employee replacement.' (I work a full day, so I have saved the museum a ton of money.) All of the employees feel that I am a staff member, and we have a great time together. We share a great bond, and we are all repectful and knowledgeable. Even when we are severly understaffed, we team up together and put the show in on time.

Generally, I work as the theatre host when volunteering at the IMAX, however, I have also worked in concessions and information. As the theatre host, I am responsible for the well-being of the theatre. It is my responsibility to ensure that the show begins on time, and that guests are well in the theatre. Any problems inside of the theatre are handled by me. (There are rarely any.) In addition, I take tickets, hand our 3D glasses (the ones that cost $50 a pair), wash those 3D glasses, and make opening and closing announcements inside of the theatre. The announcing is a little bizzare (and scary), but I have gained much confidence in public speaking, and I have our speech memorized.

The volunteering is very rewarding. I have made so many great friends while working at the IMAX, and we have a great time. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

If you get the chance, DO IT! It's an awesome thing to have on your resume, and a great way to get connections you thought you'd never get! I do volunteer work for my church, and now and then for various organizations dealing with AIDS. The benefits are PRICELESS, and you help out a cause!

I volunteered for over 10 yrs with court refered Juvy's.

We had 'em all: 10 yr old car thiefs, 15 yr old crack dealers, arsonists, 16 yr old prostitutes.

I loved every minute of volunteering with them. They were bright, intelligent kids with above average IQ's. Most came from upper middle-class families. Very few, less that 1%, came from low income, disadvantaged families. Most had 2 parent households.

Most did the things they did for the money.

It is almost impossible to convince a 15 yr old making 10,000 a week selling crack and 'H' that he's better off at McDonalds.

I LOVE VOLUNTEERING!

-I volunteer at the Schwann Center here in town (its for mentally and physically challenged children

-I'm an active volunteer at the local animal shelter

-I also am a "big sister" to some children at the nearby children's home

-Every Thanksgiving I help do a turkey dinner for the homeless

It's really rewarding!

I have been volunteering for FCF at Gwinnett Arena for about a year!

My job is to help out with the concession stands. I serve pizza, beer, soda, popcorn, subs, and bottled watter. I like volunteering because the tips that we get go to help local foster children in Georgia. Another reason why I like to volunteer is because of the big events that come the Gwinnett Arena.

Here are the big events that I have worked in the last year:

Jeff Foxworthy

American Idols

Backstreet Boys

Marc Anthony

System of a Down

Foo Fighters

Audioslave

Gwen Stefani

Bon Jovi

Megadeath (Dream Theater)

Tonight I'm working a George Strait concert and I will working the Taste of Chaos concert this Tuesday. Also in March I will be volunteering at the following events:

Queen + Paul Rodgers

Nickelback

I used to work the Coastal Cleanup Day here in California. However, I went to clean up the beach and they made us log every scrap of paper, cigarette butt, piece of metal, etc. I ended up spending more time doing that than actually cleaning the beach!

*Bump*

For about a year now in college, I've been a member of Circle K International. For those of you who don't know, its the college level of Kiwanis or Key Club. I've learned to love volunteering and I've done a lot lately;

-Relay For Life

-Salvation Army

-Zoo Boo at Lowry Park Zoo/Haunted Houses

-Countless local events

-Helping kids read

I kind of learned to appreciate service now and I've had a lot of fun.
