jk1w
I love the history of parks as much as the next person and I would completely understand the pictures if we were getting a coaster. So I guess I just don't care about our new splash twisty battle doohickey. Sure it would be great to have all the old rides but there would be expensive up keep and not many people would ride it when they can go ride more exciting things. You have to replace old with new otherwise the park will never move forward. If you left six flags like it was in 1971 no one would want to go to it. That's what memories are for. Would I like to go back and ride the Screamin Eagle before the removed the double up and banked the corners more? Ride the jet scream? Heck what about the other St. Louis parks like Forest Park Highlands and Chain of Rocks Park. Sure, I would love to be able to do those things, but I can't. I do get to hear awesome stories though from my parents and grandparents. I'm more of a car freak so I do understand your point. I cringe when someone cuts up a perfectly good 32 Ford to make a hot rod or modify a perfectly good muscle car. See what I am getting at is that I know the park has to change to make money and have more people come back to the park (though really we are talking about SFStL so we dont expect much), but it would be nice to reintroduce rides that long since fallen, stuff like a tea cup or a rotor ride; I mean there classics of a begone era when flats used to rule many parks scenery. I mean seeing a revamp sky ride would be awesome, is it necessary, no; but still it is nostalgia that most people don't get to ride on these days. And we all new how much MORE beautiful the park was before the major in and out of rides and moving stuff around, I mean I know it would be hard for a park to do so but it still would nice to see more effort to see more grass and less asphalt. As for the other defunct parks in Saint Louis, yes they where old and yes the land given to them was small, but look at Coney and Luna in NY, if Chain of Rocks and the Highlands were still around we might see a similar story and maybe a very different Saint Louis. Coney and Luna are old, but they still got a lot of kick for what they are. And yes I love old cars, and I get what you mean, it is like seeing a old 50's Chevrolet Bel Air with a big 20ish thin wall chrome wheels. That makes me kinda upset when I see that. jk1w
From what I've come to understand, Chain of Rocks could not compete with SF once it came along Yes, that is what I have heard also, but it was struggling with other issues also, most notably was fires. Several occurrences led to the parks' demise. Combined with a drop in school enrollment, which affected the school picnics, (a big part of Chain of Rocks business), two major fires in four years, and with the opening of Six Flags in Eureka, sealed the fate of the park on the cliff. StLCPfan
You guys were talking about the area adjacent to (west of) the Hannibarrels where the restrooms are. The area just over the train tracks below the Hannibarrels platform with the small high windows was where the shooting gallery used to be. I think they use that for storage now. There used to be a small conference room behind the Hannibarrels where they gave out the employee of the month awards for each department. I don't know if it's still used for that, or if it's used for something else now. I think Vonni might be right about security using the room above the restrooms. And what dead-end area are you talking about jk1w? There is an employee cafeteria back there behind the small theater and the area where the slingshot used to be. I was talking about these restrooms with the "windows": And I am talking about the dead in street in front of the facade now: Do you know I am looking at this photo and I am thinking a good opportunity for a small junior coaster or about 3 or more flats carnival style The left is the blocked off path with and to the right is the strange billboard in the middle of the walkway deal credit: sfstl.net and google maps
Vonni
Very cool discovery there! Yeah, the billboard path is really odd. But the other one across from Hannibarrels I'm assuming leads to an employee area, so I doubt that will be opened up. But, I also agree we have found an AWESOME spot for a junior coaster! Oh and there are those ugly, pointless fake buildings again! Ugh! Take 'em down already SF!

SteveStL
Gotta love that Pea Green El Camino (or whatever it is) in the pic. Pure 70's goodness. Fully equipped with an 8-track player and FM tuner I bet.
StLCPfan
Where is there room for a small coaster? The pad where the slingshot used to be? They're using that during Fright Fest for a circus side-show.

Lol, yeah it is odd, I have been able to squeeze by the billboard but is very awkward, I can't see why they don't open it up instead of having to walk all the way around. And to bad they can't reuse that path it looked like a very nice stroll, but as I keep looking at it, they would have to do something with the current buildings to hide them. And haha yes six flags really needs to get rid of those buildings. Also, someone needs to suggest this spot to Dave, this would be a very good location for rides. ^ The blocked off pathway is the employee break area. Thanks Gotta love that Pea Green El Camino (or whatever it is) in the pic. Pure 70's goodness. Fully equipped with an 8-track player and FM tuner I bet. I know right, it is to bad we don't see those cars in the park anymore Where is there room for a small coaster? The pad where the slingshot used to be? They're using that during Fright Fest for a circus side-show. Demo the fake facade, get rid of the island, and use some of the back fence to put a nice junior coaster in. I never seen the circus side show, but I think they and we can live without it there if they can squeeze some rides there. It doesn't even have to a coaster they could put some small flats there. Heck I could see 2 dragon wagons fit in there, or else a rotor and a tilt-a-whirl as long as they keep the theaming down between the two.
HWFan
^Dave is a big tilt-a-whirl fan! And when talking about that site in the past, because there are four entrances to our employee cafe, he said that he would love to put a ride there if given the chance. I'm just really sad about the other change next year.

Haha awesome, who doesn't love tilt a whirls, that's why I am surprised SFStL doesn't have one, and you should mention to him about squeezing a junior coaster in there as an option. But I really think a couple of flats could fit well also, the queue lines for both flats would be big enough, and you can re theme that weird section. Plus you will bring MORE attention to that area since now the old hannibarrel site is being used (oh and get rid of that ugly facade on that dead on street and the one blocking the old entrance to hannibarrel) What other change next year are you talking about? I wouldn't think that it is about the SBNO ride.

There are no visible changes to the Hannibarrel site besides the addition of a skeleton for Fright Fest, which suggests that no work will really be done until after Fright Fest. And with the change, I'm still waiting for explicit permission on what I can say, but I will say that it's going to really effect my job...speaking of which, I just got promoted to a lead!!! Now that I'll be staying later, I'm hoping to see one of the ghosts sometime after close.
Woodie Warrior
My family is considering buying an ACE trial membership just to get in to Daredevil Daze. How big are the crowds at the event? Is it worth the money?
ZeroGravity55
^ I've heard that you get exclusive ride time in the morning before the park opens and at night when the park closes. I think you also get some type of photo walk-back/behind the scenes tour on one of the rides. From what I've heard, the park is not crowded because I think that's the first weekend the waterpark is closed. That's just what I've been told, so you might want to call the park and get all the details before you decide to go. As for the event itself being crowded, I've got no idea about how many people will be attending it.
NAMTABSFGAm
Going to head down to Six Flags St. Louis Labor Day Weekend. Any idea how crowded it will be and how the lines will be? Any suggestions for getting on everything and just in general? Lastly, any secrets about the park maybe like a magic seat on a coaster and anything? Thanks
Zcev5454
Was at the park last night and was really shocked to see all the Fright Fest work beginning already! Blind Fury is already going up in the shade arbors, and there are lots of signs promoting the mazes and attractions (Blind Fury, Total Darkness, Insanity Alley, Slaughter House, Terror Train). This seems like it will be focused on the scaring, rather than family time! What I didn't see though was any posters for the rumored paintball hayride? Total Darkness seems like it will be great, being in a completely dark theater. The crowds were non-existent even on Boomerang. The Boss is still my favorite ride in the dark, but Screamin' Eagle is way up there too. There also seems to be a new theme for the terror train, but the sign had really bad font (to the point where you could hardly read it at all. Many skeletons and props are hung around the rides, especially on the sign of XCalibur. There seems to be little to no work done on the Hannibarrels area at all. Fright Fest is almost here! Woodie Warrior
What I didn't see though was any posters for the rumored paintball hayride? There is a sign near the backlot arcade that says "Zombie Paintball Apocalypse". I do not think this is a hayride. It seems to be a Halloween-themed paintball course. I don't think a hayride is coming this year. Maybe the area will be used for a future construction project?

SFZIP
Zombie Paintball Apocalyse will be the hayride this year, the entrance will probably be near Axis games where it's been the last couple year. Holidead: The Bye-Polar Express is the name of the returning terror train whith a weird Christmas theme. Edited August 27, 2013 by SFZIP
Zcev5454
A christmas theme? Im not sure if SFStL could use a more odd style for a "Terror Train." At least the train is returning as a haunted attraction, instead of the blazing imbeciles show last year
