Today's video requires a bit of additional feedback! We shot Kraken at SeaWorld today doing a test with a new camera - a pair of 720p Sunglasses camera from stuntcams.com Have a look:

Need your feedback on the VISUAL quality of this video - What do you think? Great - Good - Mediocre - Really Bad?

Your feedback is appreciated and helpful!

I like the fact that it is a riders perspective, but the picture quality is just about "good", it is certainly a step in the right direction for sunglass pov's! Now i understand that you cant really get a full blown HD camera in sunglasses, but I like that your trying new things

EDIT: After watching it again, the actual picture clearness is actually ok, it seems the camera has trouble "staying up to speed" so to speak

I want Germany to get a floor less coaster like Kraken!

It looks impressive with its twists and upside-down sections...

Pretty cool video by the way

I think the color sensitivity and picture are good, I was a little put off by the slight fisheye feel to the lens but not bad at all.

Picture quality is good, about on par with the other videos you've posted, although a bit on the shaky side. Audio sounds even more muffled than before and doesn't sound very good (worse than the GoPro audio quality on other POVs).

Kraken was a pretty good ride when I rode last May. Definitely one of the major highlights of visiting SWO.

I say "Good". . tho I really am not a fan of the "fish-eye" effect.

but overall, I'm not that much of a stickler (I buy both Blu-Ray and "standard" DVDs, and really don't notice THAT much difference on them. . although our Blu player does tend to upconvert. . so maybe that's why?).

but overall. . yah, looks good.

ETA: While miles ahead of some "other" coaster videos you can find online, in re-watching it. . yeah, it's way shakier than your usual videos. Less shaky than other vids I've seen from other people, but your videos are almost always smooth and pleasing to watch. This one?. . . a bit shakier than usual.

Nice video, I actually thought the visual quality was rather good. Maybe not quite the same as gopros but close.

I am just going to agree with previous people. More shaky than your other vids but a lot better than other people's videos on youtube.

The visual quality of the video was just mediocre. Far better than much of the garbage on youtube, but clearly not up to TPR's normal standard. I much prefer your mounted videos.

Maybe this is just me, but there's an odd "stop-motion" look to the footage--particularly the off-ride and back-row video. It doesn't compare to your mounted camera footage, but it is interesting to watch.

Video quality is okay, but the sound is pretty bad, like you get a lot of loud wind noise.
Audio sounds even more muffled than before and doesn't sound very good

I like how I specifically asked for feedback on the VISUAL quality of the video, and I get comments about the audio.

I say stick with your old camera, the video quality and shakiness seems like a step back.

I never said I was "replacing" my old camera (and we actually use about 10 different cameras to shoot stuff with at any given time), this was more a test of some new equipment that I was wanting to get feedback on, SPECIFICALLY about the visual quality, meaning like, how the image quality looks. I realize it's shaky. But how does the actual picture look?

Also, keep in mind this was the very FIRST time I used this set of glasses. So the shakiness would only improve over time. I was more interested in the VISUAL quality of how the image looked. Not the audio, not if it's shaky, the VISUAL quality.

Not sure if I can explain myself enough or was I not being clear?

Robb, how much do you think the fact it was an overcast day played into how the video looked? I just thought it looked kind of dull and faded. It didn't have that clear "pop" that most of your regular videos have.

Posted

hey, *I* commented only on the visual content

(tho I did go back and Edit to Add a comment about the shakiness. . but I'd still rather watch your stuff than some of the the other videos online)

--> and yeah, I do get that you were speaking in general terms, and not to anyone specifically. . but if I get to post again, and improve my chances of winning a coveted TPR BoC, then so be it!

The two biggest problems I see are that the colors were really unsaturated at times, especially when the sky was in view (like going up the lift), and that the camera seemed to be recording at a few frames per second below what it should have, making the video a little choppy in parts.

While I agree with some of the comments here about it not quite being up to the usual TPR visuals, I will give it a rating of "Good." It would be nice if it could be as clear as the 1080p videos (yes, I do realize that this particular camera is 720p), but I actually kind of like the "fish eye" view. What I like about it is that it gives a wider view, so I think it gives a better idea of what it actually looks like while you're riding in that you can see more than just the track (such as buildings on the side of the track, a good view of the sky, etc).

The weird thing is that I usually watch nothing but the mounted POVs where the track basically takes up the entire frame. There was just something I liked about the wider angle on this video. Is it possible that you might post more videos using the Sunglasses camera? I for one would be interested in seeing another POV with it, even if the picture quality isn't as clear as with the other cameras.
