I thought, maybe for a minute, that this was getting ridiculous - but I was wrong, its only getting better! Seriously, google ads?!?! I think its amazing how much effort has gone into the parody side, yet the people who *really* want to save the ride can't be bothered to work this hard

The sad part is the people don't realize Prince Desmond is proving a point. He made a twitter, a facebook, add space, and many other things required for a major project. Hell, the haunted house Brent works at(hopefully be seeing it soon) has a facebook and a twitter page, and it is open for about one month a year.

 

Just out of pure curiosity, is Prince Desmond the Nigerian Prince you get scam emails from? Either way, Kudos to everyone involved!

Well after checking to see the running total for .org, I find they have raised 11.00 in 6 hours, at that rate, it will only take them 17 years and 3 weeks to raise all of the money needed. I guess my challenge last night helped them to raise a little more money, maybe they found it in the sofa cushion, regardless, given their inability to raise the other portion of the challenge money, I guess I won't be making the drive to Ohio afterall their loss.

.org has aslo taken away the ability to post comments on their blog (only after trying to Bash Robb)! Now I normally don't get into this kind of thing, but I actually loved the Big Dipper, but at the same time, the people trying to preserve it are fools! Business plan or not, they do not seem to have thought this through at all. Any student could set up a web page much better than what they have and actually have a chance to raise money.

 

This thread makes my day!

I don't know, while I get that the "effort" in mocking these people has been made to show just how easy it is to establish a viable web presence (quickly) and to poke fun at their lack of professionalism ... overall it is really coming off as a leader of enthusiasts beating the drum to drive his fanboys into a lather.

 

I know it's "so easy" to setup a Twitter/Facebook/'hilarious' website/run some Google/Facebook ads etc, but it all seems like a bunch of unnecessary piling on to me. Perhaps it's because I'm not quite as invested in this site as some, but the foam coming out of some folks' mouths over all of this is odd to me.

 

I get it, these two apparently have no idea what they're doing - they should have asked for assistance prior to announcing they "did it" (or they, most likely, just shouldn't have done it in the first place). The obsessive nature of mocking and making fun of their effort just comes off in poor taste to me, and I certainly hope that me voicing that opinion is greeted with the "listen, no one cares if you disagree...just don't be a douche" approach. This site is pretty solid in terms of both information and closeness of it's members, and I enjoy perusing it. I just must have missed the part where the two people who (foolishly?) bought this rollercoaster came to this board and started trashing everyone.....causing the retaliation of the parody site/ads etc.

 

"They" certainly come off as bit clueless and over their heads in this whole thing (and certainly have not inspired any confidence in actually "donating" money to them), I guess I just don't get the need to teach them a lesson. They're GOING TO FAIL, right? Why not have them do it all on their own, and quietly laugh after the coaster is ultimately torn down and thrown away?

^ Because TPR is not only a site for great information on roller coasters and theme parks, but an entertainment venue as well. Bottom line, we like to have fun and we like to poke fun. Sometimes it's at easy targets like Kat & Kiwi, sometimes the targets are ourselves, for example, with the TPR SWIMSUIT CALENDAR. We make fun of everyone. We are an "equal opportunity offender."

 

If you're offended or disagree with Prince Desmond and his efforts, you're welcome to your opinions (and I respect you for presenting it maturely), but you're in the minority.

 

If you look across the web right now, Prince Desmond has a lot of support from all over the place. That alone speaks volumes to me.

 

And as I quoted above, Prince Desmond is just trying to make a point, and yes at someone elses expense, but let's be honest here, how does someone NOT buy a .com when it's available...and it only cost $9! NINE DOLLARS!!!

 

The amatuer mistakes that Kat & Kiwi have made are making it way too easy for us to poke fun at it. Remember that no one in this thread is against Big Dipper getting saved, we just are against the plan and lack of professionalism by Kat & Kiwi have presented, and are too blind to see it for themselves.

 

And finally, when you think about it, if Kat & Kiwi are actually reading any of this, we are actually HELPING them by giving them very sound advice, quite a bit of it coming from industry professionals, and we have probably brought more awareness to their organization than they have themselves.

 

Seriously, more people now know about the Savethebigdipper.org effort thanks to Theme Park Review. It's up to those people to decide if that organization has what it takes to save the ride. We actually did they work they SHOULD have done by purchasing a .com and .net domain, setting up a Twitter, a Facebook page, creating ads, creating awareness, etc, etc, and if I were the .org group, I'd be taking advantage of this additional exposure and trying to figure out how to turn it into a win for them...but I don't think they're smart enough to figure that out.

Can I just add that poor organizational efforts amongst enthusiast groups (large or small) reflect directly back to the community of enthusiasts as a whole. You can add this halfassed attempt to save an old woodie to a list which includes ACE's scam of pretending to build a roller coaster museum for however many years it's been, pointless internet petitions, etc. etc.

 

Bottom line....if you're gonna do something, do it right. Quit making the rest of us look like idiots.

But with that logic, BB, does one enthusiast group turning on a couple of it's "own" with a parody site/social media onslaught really help "the image" of enthusiasts overall....either?

 

I'm not offended by it, I just don't think all of this is really teaching anyone a lesson, helping them via a mocking campaign, or done on some sort of higher level of "actually helping" them get attention. I get that it's hilarious to most here, but overall I just think it comes off as a bit mean and somewhat immature (although I do realize that the effort put forth by those who 'saved the Dipper!!!1!!" can be labeled as immature as well).

 

It's just not for me. It's not something I would take a lot of joy in participating in, especially because I don't think the two "makes us look bad as a group" principles came around here shaking a charity can in anyone's face. Just seems like it went a bit too far, I guess is all I'm saying - especially because they didn't come around poking at this hornet's nest asking for problems.

^ We hear you and you've made your opinion clear. If you don't take joy in participating in this discussion, why do you keep responding? All you're doing is creating drama in this discussion, which means part of you IS actually taking joy in participating.

 

Remember, this forum is not made up of just "enthusiasts." I'm not sure if you're aware but many of these people who are responding are not only enthusiasts, but also people who work in the theme park business professionally. And when we have the blessing of some of our peers in the business, that is the litmus test that tells me we aren't doing anything out-of-line.

 

Sorry, Randall, I just simply do not agree with you. If you want to keep pressing your point, that's fine, I'm just going to tell you it's not going to be greeting with many welcoming responses.

^^ considering that Prince Desmond's efforts have landed the save the big dipper effort at the top of googles search lists, including other forum sites, just goes to show how a little effort can go along way. The Prince's efforts have drawn in the curioisty of people running across the ads and then in turn they run over to the .org site. If they really had a plan in place, I imagine they would be all over the Pepsi grant money in the same fashion as the blue streak.
