megamatt
Cranmore's was fun and only had a 10 minute wait. Attatash's had an hour wait, same with their alpine slide. I didn't end up going on it.
Philrad71
^^I 'm gonna have to check the one out in Ellicottville...it's about 30 minutes from my house! I heard the new zip line adventure course is about $80 though, which seems a bit steep to me.
larrygator
^I think someone lied to you about the price. Looks to be only $42 for 3 hours. http://www.holidayvalley.com/HolidayValley/info/skyhigh.aspx If it is anything like the one TPR did in Belgium that is a fair price. AJMouse
I do hope the thread is not too old to reply to, but I just found this video posted on YouTube November 19 of Mieders Alpine Coaster. Apparently he's going downhill without brakes! *Want to try this myself!* This is a single-pipe alpine coaster in Mieders, Austria. You reach the summit via a cablecar and then sit on a small car with a brake lever and off you go. Having ridden it once using a little braking, I decided to try it a second time without using the brakes. This is SCARY! Enjoy the ride!
larrygator
Ceratinly not too old to reply. I'm actually going to try to do a mountain coaster trip in the Northeastern US over the Chirstmas Break.

Philrad71
Had some time to kill yesterday before going to the relatives house so decided to drive into Holiday Valley to check out the Mountain Coaster...definitely looks cool of what I could see of it! Obviously, it wasn't open because of the holiday, but a quick peek of the website mentioned that it would be open during the winter season when the Tannenbaum lift is open 2-8 PM. I definitely think that going on it at night in the winter would be awesome! Definitely gonna have to check it out and get some photos.
larrygator
^I rode the one at WISP at night on New Year's Day two years ago. Definitely a rush.

I'll be camping at Allegheny next month and I hope to ride it while I'm in the area. Does anybody know when the one at Greek Peak operates during the winter. I didn't see it on their website. MayTheGForceBeWithYou
It's kind of weird that people say the alpine/mountain coasters have an "off-season". They're open year round here in Colorado...

disneyfan1313
^ How does that work with the snow?!?!?! Do they close if it snows or just if it gets high enough, etc?
SharkTums
^That's exactly what happens! We rode the one at Park City one day, then the next day you could barely see it due to snowfall. The day after that we watched as employees basically dug it out all morning before it opened in the afternoon. Kind of funny!

eddie200330
^ hahahaha! Thats awesome! Being from Florida I am generally confused about how snow works in general.. That is awesome!!!!! Well, the one at the Wisp is pretty much away from the ski trails and it is high enough off the ground to keep that from happening. We don't get too much snow in these parts and they make their own snow to compensate. Usually a day or 2 after a big snow it gets warm enough to melt it back down to the base pack they started with on their own.
davidellisrct2
Hi all, Glad you liked the Mieders Alpine Coaster "no brakes" footage...it was a real blast doing that. FYI I am in both RCCGB and ECC, and this was filmed on an ECC trip back in 2005 !! Amazingly it had 2.6 million views in the first week I posted it in November...it was the most viewed youtube clip globally that week! It is now up to 3.3 million but has slowed down (unlike the coaster itself!). So keep spreading the word and let's see if we can boost the numbers a bit more! Cheers, David. texcoaster
OK, I'm doing a trip from Paris to Vienna next July and plan to hit Disney, Europa, Wiener Prater, and at least one Alpine Coaster. It looks like I could easily do the Mieders single rail coaster in that viral video OR I could do the world's longest Alpine Coaster in Imst: Assuming I can't do both (I'm going to try, of course!) which one is the "must-do"?
davidellisrct2
Personally having ridden both, I would say Mieders. Don't get me wrong, the Imst one (longest in the world) is great, but you just can't compare it to the thrills the Mieders one provides. Ride both of them on my YouTube channel and see what you think...both are on a "no brakes" basis so it's a like for like comparison. Mieders Imst Hope that helps, David.
