Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

P. 512: Holiday World acquires Santa's Cottages resort

This "saying goodbye to the moon" clue has me wondering if we are going to be saying goodbye to a ride in order for this expansion to occur?

Also, the part about the harvesting makes me wonder if the new ride will go where the corn fields for Happy Halloween Weekends were last year.

Saying goodbye to the moon...looking at the logos of the rides I see the moon features in the logo of The Legend. Surely they would not be removing this ride. Even though I am not a coaster fan I would hate to see them pull out one of their coasters.

RMC on the Legend? Just a thought. Or in a different move, they tear down The Legend and Frightful Falls. This would definitely open up tons of room for expansion in Halloween. They could also be replacing Frightful Falls with a new log flume ride where PP/Giraffica was. I don't see them tearing down The Legend but I do feel Frightful Falls is an option. Just a thought.

What about a Mack E-Motion Custom Coaster? I don't know if there are many in the U.S.

There are quite a few options for lifts, turns, drops, tilting, inside or outside, etc...

Here is pic from the Mack page showing some of the car designs. I could see something along these lines with the cars to look like mayflower ships similar to the image below. Run it inside and outside, kind of a mix between a Wild Mouse and Verbolten. Wonder if they could do a launch with it? Make it feel like riding through a storm while being on the Mayflower.

Make something unique combing some of the different elements of the Mack Coaster lineup.

Found this in my Basement. I'm pretty sure my mom bought me this after my first ride on Legend in 2005. I guess I'm a little late for Throwback Thursday!

Funny, I believe I got this shirt as well back in '06. I was too afraid to ride The Voyage back then so I rode The Legend all day. Sadly Mom threw mine out:(

Quoted from a recent online article about The Voyage and Goliath. I love Matt's confidence in the park's trio.

"In addition to The Voyage we have The Legend, we have The Raven, those have been the top three wooden rollercoasters," said Eckert. "I wish The Goliath well, but you know, we're kind of the David in this situation."

Here's the url to the article: http://www.14news.com/story/25813223/holiday-world-no-longer-home-of-worlds-tallest-wooden-coaster

What I think is funny is the park has never even advertised The Voyage has the worlds tallest wooden roller coaster. I think Matt just took the opportunity to insert nice little pun.

Edit: He should also be confident in their wooden coasters. They have a very impressive trio that all offer vastly different ride experiences from one another.

^ Here's the story: The reporter arrived with the assignment to ask Matt about Goliath and how it's toppling Voyage's records. I explained up front that it wasn't taking away our "most air-time on a wooden coaster" record -and that Voyage didn't hold any other measurable records. I even told him about how our "steepest drop" record lasted only a month (El Toro opened several weeks after Voyage did). I gave him rcdb.com as a good place to go to check all the specifics. When he interviewed Matt, he didn't bring up any records, just asked what he thought about the new ride. I'm guessing whoever provided the assignment back in the newsroom didn't double-check the facts we provided and they ran with their original (mis)information.

I hate to double post, but I saw two cool things posted by the park today via the Holiblog. The first is a picture of a young lady who works at the park who found out what is being built at the park. It looked like her jaw hit the floor when she found out. That's telling to me, because she works at the park, knows something big is being built for next year, and still looked completely shocked when she found out what it was. She also didn't know the picture was being taken. You can check that out here: www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2014/06/21/get-smarter/

The second thing I saw was that the park is hosting a video contest on what's new for 2015. You can check that out here: www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2014/06/21/video-contest-whats-2015/
