RAWKIN_coaster38
(7/24/12) The latest word on the proposed 400+ ft drop tower ride that would be mounted to backside of Kingda Ka is that they are still very interested in the concept, especially after the popular response Six Flags has been getting for Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Look for this to possible rise up for the 2014 season. From: Screamscape
ECZenith
I've always known SFGADV as a park with a great selection of flats and coasters, a drop tower ride would make the variety even better. I think they have been due for a modern age drop tower for some time now, would love to see the Golden Kingdom expanded to include this rumored project. Imagine the views of the safari animals as you climb to the summit.
jedimaster1227
Six Flags Hurricane Harbor has sent us a press release regarding the opening of their latest addition, King Cobra! King Cobra, America’s first cobra-themed, racing tube slide, today bares its venomous fangs at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. King Cobra promises one of the most extreme riding experiences in the industry while also delivering great spectator appeal. Complete with bold red, black and white scales to resemble a massive cobra on both the interior and exterior, this slide tower is the first of its kind anywhere in the United States, and its opening is presented by Kia Motors. King Cobra’s unique configuration enables two tubes to race through a circular path with twists, turns and surprises through enclosed and open sections of the slide at speeds up to 32 miles per hour. The ride’s finale features a sudden, 25-foot plunge at a 50-degree angle with riders racing until the heart-pounding finish as they appear to be swallowed by the massive jaws of the cobra. King Cobra is manufactured by Polin, a world leader in the aquatic industry with its innovative design, manufacturing and installation of water parks in 80 countries around the globe. King Cobra marks Polin’s first major U.S. installation in the company’s 35-year history. “We are confident that King Cobra’s intense ride experience and unparalleled design will make it our most popular and entertaining water attraction,” said Park President John Fitzgerald. The serpentine water slide is the fourth of five new rides to open at the Jackson, New Jersey complex this season. The Six Flags Great Adventure theme park launched SkyScreamer, a 24-story extreme swing ride; Déjà Vu, a music-themed scrambler; and the Air Jumbo flying elephants in the newly-themed Adventure Alley. Later this summer, new Fender Benders bumper cars will complete the additions. “Our five new rides are perfect for families, which is exactly what guests were asking for as a complement to our signature collection of thrill rides,” Fitzgerald added. theonetheonlyJT
^ Great paint scheme and theme looks great. As for the drop tower rumor it would be great if they built something like we said in the crazy idea thread with audio and a tunnel dropped into. Midgetman82
Neat! It's interesting seeing Polin getting their slides here into the U.S. As for the drop tower idea, I say "woah!" That idea has lingered in my head before, but I never knew that they would actually consider doing that! Heck! Maybe Intamin could now find ways to sell drop tower/strata coaster combos. I say thay should dig a ditch as deep as they can under Kingda Ka for the drop tower to fall into, just so they can have a much higher falling distance! Think we can get it to have a distance of 500ft?!
deathbydinn
Only 200 pounds maximum? Is that normal for a boomerang slide to be so low? I guess having only single tubes will help, but it just seems really low. Hopefully they'll have a scale or something at the entrance so people don't wait in line only to not be let on. Also, El Toro has again been ad wrapped, but I'd say these are much better than the stride ads and actually look kinda cool. They also didn't have any of the twists before and just the drop, where you can go in a single or double tube so it was more than 200 lbs. Also I think they may also be referred to as a Half Pipe type of slide. I actually don't mind that type of ad wrap on El Toro definitely one of the better ad wraps I have seen. That train reminds a bit of Verbolten's trains... Just saying Edited July 25, 2012 by Athletekim
Midgetman82
Heh, imagine if it was an ad for Radiator Springs Racers! Kidding, of course. I'd prefer this over the stride wrap and that hair gel wrap they've used on numerous rides.
steven1smith
Hello, I'm wondering how you guys think the crowds will be on August 14th and 15th, a tuesday and wednesday. Would it be worth it to get a gold flash pass?

KoasterDan
The wraps don't fit with the spanish bull fighting theme of the ride, but it's still better than the ugly stride ones. I wonder which park or rides will get them next...
triggernel
I'm not aware that any of the Boomerangos or Half-Pipe slides have a weight limit that low.
coastercrazy 9
I think it would be pretty cool and fitting if it were ad wrapped by Matador beef jerky.
Coaster_Fanatic
A boy riding the Kingda Ka, a roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, was hospitalized after a small bird slammed into his face Thursday afternoon, park officials said. Kristin Siebeneicher, a spokeswoman for the park in Jackson, N.J., said the roller coaster had already plummeted 45 stories back toward the ground and was pulling into the station when the bird collided with the passenger's face about 4:45 p.m. Park officials could not disclose the age of the passenger, but said he is a minor. The boy suffered minor injuries to his face and neck, and was taken to a local hospital, Siebeneicher said, adding that he was expected to recover from his injuries. The thrill ride, which soars 456 feet into the air and hurls riders along the track at a top speed of 128 miles per hour, though it was unclear how fast it was going when the bird hit. The ride was closed for about a half-hour after the accident. Oh lord. It's Fabio all over again
cfc
There was a bird collision during TPR's ERT session on Stealth at Thorpe Park back in 2006. Poor thing never knew what hit it.
Athletekim
Saw that on my Twitter Newsfeed today. I guess Six Flags isn't having the best of luck with birds going near their rides this summer...
B&MIntaminGCI
So the ride was pulling into the station and the bird flew into him? What A dumb bird, I know KK doesn't fly into the station, it's doing like 10mph maximum, so the bird must have been hauling if it sent him to the hospital. Also, how is the KK drop tower supposed to work? The support on the back of the tower angles as it goes up, so the drop tower would have to have a curve to it, or a structure built on to maintain the verticle angle. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work on the side because of the track, but who knows.
Midgetman82
^They did it with Superman: EFK, I'm sure they would find a way. As I think about it, I start to think that building a drop tower up the side of Kingda Ka isn't such a good idea. First of all, ^he's right, they would have to alter the coaster to be able to support a drop tower being connected to it. That, and I don't think people would want to walk the length of the launch track to ride a ride. Isn't the launch track longer than the upward distance of the coaster? FrightFest1408
^But it was easier with S:EFK because the tower is a Rectangle I-Beam structure,Kingda Ka's Structure is Round Pipe like supports. Like you said, either they modify the support structure or they weld the drop tower to the structure. To be honest,I don't see this happening. coasterfreak101
If they did it, the only plausible place for them to do it while still taking the height record would be to place it on the front side of the structure. They could fit two eight-person cars next to each other, I would think. The only "problem" there as far as placement is concerned (assuming that they've got the attaching all worked out) is being right underneath the ride, which Jersey isn't a big fan of. But with the covers over the cars that LL has, that shouldn't be an issue. So then the only thing left is the queue, which they do already have a bit of thanks to the old KK line that stretches into the infield - get a cover on that to appease the New Jersey guys and you should be okay. Ccron10
Wow, Ironically a few friends and me were there the day before and commented on seeing a bird flying close to Ka's tower. We all said, "Hopefully a train isn't going by when they fly past".
MissSara
I'm coming here in a little more than a week for the first time to finally ride El Toro and take it off my bucket list! Anyhow, reading reviews on Yelp, someone posted a picture holding a cup of spicy corn at the park and was wondering if anone knew what restaurant/stand serves this. Thanks! Agreed. The Drop tower(s) will most likely be placed on the front of the structure.
