Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Action Park/Mountain Creek Waterpark is about 9014234x better than Hurricane Harbor and it's only like 2 hours north.

Hm maybe Ill check that out next year.

Yes Do! It's been 5 years since I have been, but the water park has some insane "slides" on a mountain. Some feel like that they probably shouldn't exist cause it looks like tarp laid down the side of a mountain. It's not a traditional commercial park like HH, they have tarzan swings, cliff jumps, and some other unique stuff. It's my favorite water park I have been to.

I enjoyed hurricane harbor a lot when I made my only trip there this year. It was suppose to rain all day but I was bored and took my chances and went anyway. The sun ended up being out until about 4pm when I was leaving at that time it started raining. Place was absolutely dead though. I'll go back a few times next year but I'll be taking my chances again on days when the forecast is iffy.

Alright guys,

I bought our tickets for Saturday. Booked the hotel to stay at Friday night. Bought us Platinum Flash Passes. Checked weather, looks good.

I am sincerely hoping that with everything, we have a very smooth visit. Now just counting down the days to Saturday! lol

I am curious, which rides allow double rides with Platinum Flash Pass?

The reviews of Hurricane Harbor are enough to keep me away. Not enough tubes for the slides and lazy river and people walking through the river sounds annyoing. I have also heard that even with Flash Pass you can wait 15 to 20 minutes on the stairs past the merge points. I'd rather go to Dorney where there are plenty of free tubes for the slides and 2 lazy rivers and more slides overall.

I think all of them except maybe Joker and obviously Safari Off Road Adventure (which sadly you probably don't have time for but it's amazing).

They actually removed the Tarzan Swings this season for that vertical drop, vertical loop waterslide they're putting in.

Fair trade off I guess.

I mean, boldikus must have spent that much on beer.

Honestly everyone was buying rounds every time we stopped, I probably spent $50 on beer and then lunch but I would easily spend that if not more going out to brunch with friends down here in the city. Also, I didn't pay to get in (season pass) and we didn't get flash pass, I didn't play any games or buy anything besides beer and food, and we had a great day beyond the rides just hanging out and catching up, so Id say it was money well spent.

Wasn't trying to be critical, just put costs in perspective, and it really didn't even do that. Actually, my day was far more expensive than yours, coming so far. My issue is that if really waited 'til I could afford it, I'd be too old to ride and half those rides would be falling down by then. The more the cost of the trip demands Flash, the less I can afford it. This was my biggest trip in 15 years.

I think a big reason I didn't get Flash Pass is with 3 options I didn't see a "sweet spot", if Standard is good then Gold is better etc. ... but actually now I realize that Standard was a kind of sweet spot for last Sunday. As it was, I met my "goals" of experiencing every ride I wanted to at least once, and all but one twice or more. Standard would have made it possible to go well past that minimum and approach my riding limits, although require more walking and strategy than the higher options. I may consider Gold or Platinum in the future if it allows me to do it as a day trip, but the middle of the day is the hottest.

Again, it's simple: think of the best time, or what first comes to mind, for you to go and that's almost always the same as the worst time to go, because other people are like you. Be George on Sienfeld in "opposite" mode and do the opposite of what you'd normally do in theme parks and you're set.

This is a terrible strategy to employ. As you can see by my day with moderate crowds if you are strategic and not wandering around aimlessly looking for a ride without a line, you can get a lot in. The app definitely helped I'll admit, but even without it I think we would have had similar success. Also, history shows us that the park is notoriously busy Saturdays in October so with a month and half notice of a trip its simply smart to put the money aside starting now and be prepared for it. If you don't need it because of weather or whatever, then you are $100 richer. If I was coming to GreatAdv for a one time type trip I would absolutely budget for FP because its a huge popular regional park that typically is busy. I would never ever travel far to a park without budgeting for the highest level of FP, especially knowing that the day & time of year I was visiting is particularly busy - you're only setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment which does not make for a fun day @ a park.

Of course my suggestion is highly flawed, for one thing sometimes nothing like that will help. But when it comes to crowds, you do have a good guess and it makes sense to rethink your first impulse. Saturdays are my big pet peeve, I went to parks on Saturdays for years because I couldn't convince my companion to wait a day. We might wait a lot in lines and leave the park saying it sucked but next time it would be the same. Of course we knew Sunday would be better, but we were never there then so had no idea HOW MUCH better. Likewise with weather, heading out early, riding near the entrance/exit near the ends of the day. I'm giving out too much info even without specifics .

This is so true at Great Adventure. Remember this in a few weeks because when it's 29 degrees with a gale warning. You're right, there won't be lines but you better get to Nitro fast because it's dispatching at 1PM sharp with or without you and it may or may not make it back to the station so don't miss it.

The fact that anyone would pay for Flash Pass is beyond me. Now if they started giving it for free like Disney, I would def take it up. El Toro is great, but I'm not gonna pay an extra $50 or so just to skip the line!

I'd much rather wait in line and catch Pokemon!

So you're saying you'd rather play Pokemon than be riding a coaster?

No, I'd much rather wait in line for a coaster and catch Pokemon while in that line, than pay extra cash for a line-skip pass! I know many people would, but if I'm coughing up $80 for a one-day ticket (I have a pass, but still...), then I don't want to add extra moolah on to that!

I will say, I have never paid for a skip-the-line program before (I've used Fast Lane at VF once because it was free with pass renewal). I just get really lucky with crowds on trips, it's never been a necessity, for me.

If you're on a big trip, typically I would suggest budgeting for a couple fast lanes, because if you're only able to get 8 rides in a day that you're already paying $200+ for (Hotel, admission, meals, car rental), that seems like a waste to me.

Hopefully it stays that way, where I don't need a FL, but I think it's a good idea to be prepared if you happen to need it.

Well if it's a once in a lifetime vacation I can completely understand it, but usually for use TPR buddies, a Six Flags or Cedar Fair park isn't a once in a lifetime opportunity! For me, thats like Ferrari World or Disneyland Paris!

^Lol yeah but what if Ferarri world is loaded with Dragonites? No time for skip the line passes I've got lures to drop. I mean there's a lot of money in the UAE, people are rolling with pet Cheetahs. Do you think they catch Pidgeys and Zubats like we do? Hell no. Skip the line passes can wait.

I will give you $20 if you are able to do the following.

Go the SFGAdv on Saturday 15th, 22nd or 29th (provided it doesn't rain) and do the following.

Arrive one hour after the park opens. Then wait in line to ride the following coasters in this order without a Flash Pass.

1) Kingda Ka

2) Superman: Ultimate Flight

3) Joker

4) Green Lantern

5) Nitro

6) Batman: The Ride

7) Medusa

8) El Toro

You are free to eat or ride other coasters/rides during your slow time

If you can provide video proof, the $20 bill is yours. A video of someone torturing themselves waiting on those lines all day is worth the $20 expenditure. Granted you might not even might it on to 5 coasters over the course of the day.

I think if you try this you will see why Flash Pass can be a necessity for people on a schedule.

There's at least a few of us for which one overnight trip anywhere is a lot. This website's free and my local park costs as little as $2 per visit (6 with gas). And I consider myself lucky.
