Had an awesome time at Hurricane Harbor today. The park wasn't too crowded but most of the popular slides were 20-30 minute waits. Management is doing a great job with additions to the park. Tornado, King Cobra, and Big Wave Racer are all very popular with the general public. Personally I'd like to see a new body slide tower in the park, something similar to Bonzai Pipelines would be great.

Story time! So, the last time I was here Nitro had just opened so I was pretty stoked to be going again.

I went on the 8th and 9th and my friends and I got there kind of later on in the afternoon on that Sunday. My main objective of the day was to get on Kingda Ka. Annnnnnd it wasn't running. It was packed so I didn't plan on riding much anyway, plus one person I was with had to do the safari as a compromise since she doesn't like coasters. (spoiler alert, it took FOR-EV-ER) They're season pass holders, I was flying home in a few days. Kinda bummed. I think by the time we got done with the safari we had maybe 2 hours until the park closed. Got a quick ride on Bizarro and we headed over to El Toro. I think around this time Kingda Ka was running now. I forwent El Toro to go stand in line for Kingda Ka since I knew it wouldn't be open on Monday. Also, I was at Cedar Point 2 days before and TTD was closed both days I was there. So I was even more determined. I think we were in line for an hour and a half or close to 2 hours. I don't know if it was from being in line for that long in the heat and the years of built up excitement, but I was really disappointed. I don't know what I was hoping for. It's intense, a little rough, and that's it. Oh, and it made my ears pop. The view was cool though.

Monday was way different. It was either threatening to rain or raining off and on all day. It was so empty. Nitro was a walk on every time we rode it. My non-coaster riding friend timed me and another person on El toro. 19 minutes from the time we walked into the queue until we were back to where she was sitting. Even shorter towards the end of the day. Oh, and back row of El Toro Rode everything except Superman. Not too broken up about that though. I did the one at SFGA earlier in the week. When it was actually raining we'd all go grab beers and wait it out. I think the alcohol lines were the longest ones I waited in all day. And I was able to get in for free on Sunday and for like 10 bucks on Monday. Pass members have some pretty sweet perks. It was a really rad day.

tl;dr

Kingda Ka made me angry.

El Toro rules.

Beer is delicious.

I just got back from my third weekend in a row at Great Adventure and they were running Kingda Ka all day instead of just in the afternoon and evening like previous weekends.

On a different note, it seemed like El Toro was running quite fast today. It was making my eyes water, which it never did before.

I hope the attendants at Ka were better then they were on fri. On fri. They were training a bunch. And were slow as hell. They were only launching a train every 5 min that's how slow it was. On top of it. It wasn't open long due to the rain fri evening.

No way will they ever be that bad. Not even Superman is usually that bad. Ka aims to dispatch a train every minute and it seemed like they were hitting that interval today while I was at work.

Well not on fri. It was so bad that a guy in line was timing them and yelling out how long it was taking, and he kept yelling, 5min.

That sounds like a typical ride on Kingda Ka when you're not in the front seat... if you get back to the park try to ride it in the front and you'll have a whole new appreciation for Kingda Ka.

Glad you had fun anyway!

Kingda Ka made me angry.

Make sure you give it a few tries if you come out to Great Adventure again. The front row in the morning (1st or 2nd or 3rd train of the day) seems to run really well, and it gave me an adrenaline rush, which I normally don't get on coasters for some reason. I also feel like the more times I ride it, the more I notice how good it is. Just my opinion, though.

You're not alone. Ive only done KK a handful of times now but I always say its a one trick pony. If it was what it is plus some sort of course after the drop it might be more interesting to me but I certainly wont wait for it most times. I have not however, done the front seat so based on what others have said my opinion might change.

Kingda Ka is a front row ride. But its definitely not as good as TTD. Sucks your coudnt get on TTD. I bet we were at cedar point maybe the same time, as TTD was closed when I was there as well. Were you at cedar point for coastermania?

totally agree with ka being a one trick pony. I consider ka a gimmick, just like I think stand-ups are gimmicks as well. But if you gonna ride Ka, or TTD, its got to be in the front.

^They do have to be ridden in the front. As to the fact that it is a one trick pony, yeah, it is. However, even though I'm pretty annoyed that they don't use all that speed for a longer layout, I have to admit it is a really good trick. If you sit in the front roughness is not a problem and the launch is pretty forceful (I enjoyed it more than TTD's), the wind in your face is ridiculous and it's just a super short, yet very intense experience. Pulls a lot of Gs while entering the top hat and this is what makes me like it more (although just a little) than TTD which, for some reason, just didn't feel as intense and if you're such a short ride, you had better packing one hell of a punch.

I never really expect Kingda Ka to pull me through an amazing "poetic" and graceful layout. The ride is not like that. Kingda Ka's calling card is the extreme forces, speeds, and heights. When you strap into that front row seat, tension building for the expectation of the launch, and the launch blasts you forward as a "climax" to the rising tension, there is nothing like it. Cheeks flapping, tears forming (from high speeds), lots of fun. At the top, the height is oddly graceful and quiet, so slow at the top after hearing the wind rushing past your ears. Kingda Ka is my favorite coaster. I know it is "gimmicky", but then you can say that about Top Thrill Dragster (seems way more liked than Ka). Anyways, I just find Kingda Ka very good, and the theming around the ride is phenomenal - better than Animal Kingdom? I think so. (just my opinion, though!)

I definitely have to give it a try in the front next time I'm up there. It deserves another chance. I think I sat in the 4th row and just kind of wanted to get it over with at that point which is why we didn't go for the front. After the ride my friend asked me how I liked it and I couldn't even form an articulate enough sentence to explain why I was so angry with it. I just was. Which bummed me out because I was so siked to finally ride it and watching it launch next to you while you're in line only makes it even better. Luckily my dad and a good bit of friends live about 30 minutes from the park so at least I have an excuse to go more often though. So maybe next year!

I was! I didn't know that was going on until I got there though. Went there after being in Chicago a few days and hitting up SFGA. Oddly enough the person I was with there ALSO didn't like coasters. He kept backing out and I ended up riding a lot of them by myself. I need new friends.

My personal opinion is that both TTD and KK are amazing rides, and since I only ride them in the front I have a very hard time deciding which is better. I'll probably give TTD the slight nod only because it's main selling point is it's height, and on TTD you have an amazing view from the top rather than a view of the parking lot. They feel basically the same to me though and they're both amazing.

If you don't ride in the front TTD is much better than KK but like I said... I don't understand why you wouldn't ride in the front so this isn't an issue for me.

Hey all!

I'm heading out to Jackson next Wednesday and wanted to know something for anyone's who's been to Six Flags. What's the Dark Knigjt like? I heard such bad reviews of it, but I checked out a POV on YouTube and it looked like a good ride. I mean they set it up, there's a preshow. So what's your rating on it?

Posted

^^ If you like Wild Mouse coasters in the dark, it's probably great. Personally it was a huge let down and stands as my least favorite coaster in the entire park. Not worth the wait if there is one that's for sure. The pre-show was meh and only made the wait to ride feel longer. As far as indoor kiddie/junior coasters go, I think Skull Mountain DESTROYS Dark Knight.

^^Dark Knight is a good wild mouse in my opinion. If you like wild mouses, you should love this one! The theming of the ride elevates Dark Knight above other wild mouse coasters.

Does anyone know who's getting batman backwards next year? I'm pretty sure there are only a few parks left

What do you mean? Only 3 parks have gotten it so far: Great America, Magic Mountain, and Over Texas.

Good to hear!

It's amazing how they can complete the whole track of Banshee by january but sic flags can't get any of their new rides up til june lol. Crazy.

And yeah all those videos are pointless, no backround to them, all based on other peoples opinions that he steals from here.

Back on topic, DOD should have at least been open by Mid May at the latest, but I'm wondering why it's taking this long to open.

Maybe Six Flags wants all of their big ticket new rides to open up all at the same time?

New Jersey had one of the worst winters in years... Jersey had a snowstorm almost every week, which is uncommon here. They also had to remove an old coaster (extremely carefully too) and all of the footers, and they had to add additional supports to Ka's tower. I don't really blame Six Flags for the delays. They even worked hard to be able to open Kingda Ka on weekends, which they didn't have to do.

People need to get over the weather excuses. It's unacceptable that the ride is still not open. Six flags America I believe still doesn't have a relocated wild mouse open. It's just terrible sf practice.

Banshee was finished throughout big snow storms. They charged through them. I'm sure six flags didn't want it open til MD so they could try and get all the spring time guests to come back for it.

I'm fine with Six Flags aiming to open new attractions after opening day- generally Memorial a day. I get that. It's a business decision. However, they built in VERY little time for delays, which need to be accounted for. They planned to open Zumanjaro by the end of May. What they need to do is build in some time for delays throughout the winter. Kings Island/Cedar Fair planned to open Banshee in April, but started the project early enought to allow for the equally atrocious winter.

On that note, a Zumanjaro commercial shoot is scheduled for June 25th. They've been testing this drop tower for over a month

I have to say, The Dark Knight is one of my go-to rides. Everytime I'm at the park, I go on it at least 1-2 times during the day. I was just on it on Sunday. Still a great ride. The pre-show is a bit corny (i've seen it a million and one times) and I could pretty much recite it, but it builds up to the ride. If you like Wild Mouses, you'll love this one.

So I ended up making my way to SFGAdv after a meeting on Friday, and it was so much fun! I'll post more about it later, but real quick.... I was able to go on Kingda Ka, Toro, Nitro & the Mine Train (since I love Goldrusher and Big Thunder at DL and WDW). All walk-ons!

Kingda Ka was the surprise ride of the visit because I didn't think it would be open due to Zumanjaro, and the forecast called for thunderstorms that day.

Needless to say, I LOVED Kingda Ka! I love Xcelerator, but this brought the experience to a whole new level. Toro was amazing. I have never been out of my seat more since Ghostrider in the late 90s. Nitro was amazing too..and going up the lift impressed me with the gorgeous greenery of Jersey. Gotta say that SFGADV is in a gem of a location. Green treetops everywhere. No wonder Jersey is the Garden State.

I left right before the huge downpour..but taking the hour drive from Newark was soooo worth it. Thanks for your advice, everyone!
