Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

p. 777: Winterfest starts on November 29!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to mild winter weather — despite's Monday's snow — Kings Dominion is on time to complete construction of two major attractions for its 2012 season.

The Hanover County theme park expects to have its new WindSeeker swing ride and the Dinosaurs Alive! interactive exhibit ready to open April 6.

"So far, knock on wood, we are on schedule," Pat Jones, Kings Dominion's vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

Also, KDFansite's Facebook status today was:

Windseeker was spotted testing from 95 today! Testing is in full force! Who will be at opening day to seek some wind?!

So basically full testing has begun and both attractions are scheduled to open on opening day (Good Friday, April 6th).

Ohh yeah!!! I so plan to be there on april 7th for opening weekend.

Does anyone know of any pictures of WindSeeker from I-95? I really want to see the skyline from the interstate since a new 300 foot tower is in it.

So far no pics have surfaced but relax, the park opens in about three weeks so you'll get a chance to see it in person.

I drove by KD around a week ago and got to see the new skyline from I-95. Windseeker is definitely the most prevalent structure while driving by the park now since it can be seen easily through the trees. As far as how it looks, I mean it's the exact same as the ones at CP, KI, and CW. It did look weird though seeing I305, Drop Tower, Windseeker, AND the Eiffel Tower all towering over the park. Not used to that many 300+ foot structures in one park!

Just to bring up a conversation... Any thoughts about 2013?

419-foot Strata Coaster. Can't be taller than TTD now

You sure it won't be 457 feet? Gotta reclaim that title from that other chain...

With Kinzel that might've been a possibility but with the new guy in charge I highly doubt it.I see waterpark additions or family rides coming next season with a possible coaster coming again in 2014 at the earliest.

For 2013:

A WaterWorks expansion could happen and they could transform it into Soak City including new paint on slides, new aminities, and maybe a mat racer slide (similar to what CP is getting this year). We got 3 big WaterWorks attractions in 2007 though, while the other former Paramount parks and Cedar Fair parks didn't so we are still "ahead" of others I guess... but the competition (Water Country USA) is planning to expand BIG in a few years.

I could also see a revamp of the KidZville area to make it all one big upgraded Planet Snoopy. Many of the kids rides in KidZville have been around since the park opened in 1975 and need some much needed TLC or removed for new rides. A revamp with additions like Dorney Park saw last season would be very nice. We didn't get as much attention when the transformation from Nick to Peanuts happened due to it being the season the 25 million dollar giga was added, so this is needed and seems likely with the new family-oriented CEO in charge.

For 2014:

Some type of roller coaster.

Finally, I feel like KD is happy with their size as of now with the Best Western and campground. I don't see a hotel in the near future likely, but in the far future maybe... KD has PLENTY of land for one. I see BGW getting one way before KD gets one.

With Ouimet around I can see many parks getting Vekoma Mine Trains.

Kidding aside, I think if KD is getting a coaster in 2013/2014, something like a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter would be good enough for the park and if they really wanted a massive coaster, they can build the "Super-Euro-Fighter" like Takabisha.

I'd like to see one of those spinners along the lines of those found in the SF chain,it'd be a nice compliment to Ricochet which is 10 years old now.

Hmmm... Must just be bad luck on my part. It's similar to Volcano with my visits. Run to it as soon as it opens otherwise the line is horrendous with single train operation. Glad to hear that they do actually run it with 2 trains.

The one time I visited Kings Dominion (ECB 2010), Avalanche started out with one train and added a second one later in the day. In fact, Dominator, Backlot Stunt Coaster, and Flight of Fear were the only coasters that started with two trains (Volcano, The Blast Coaster and Intimidator 305 added second trains later as well). Perhaps that was due to the forcast of rain that day.

New - Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia 3D.

If it weren’t for a series of cataclysmic events; a comet impact being first on the list, our planet could still be the domain of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs fascinate us so much, that many people wish they were still among us. Fortunately, Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia 3D will be the closest we get to actually being in the presence of these extraordinary creatures.

Deeply rooted in science, this new 3D film in the Action Theatre, narrated by Donald Sutherland, carries audiences back in time to witness these amazing beasts come to life. Meet the largest living animals to have ever walked the earth: the titanesque plant-eating Argentinosaur, and its nemesis the Giganotosaur, a bipedal carnivore that could easily challenge the famous T-Rex! Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia 3D combines CGI and live action featuring Dr. Rodolfo Coria, a world-renowned Argentinean paleontologist, visiting sites of major discoveries.

Location: Action Theater

Duration: 20 minutes

Free with park admission
