itsasamccormick Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Hi there! In art we are doing a project on sketching, and we needed to chose a photo. i chose to do something related to a roller coaster. I need a picture that is just one element of a coaster. not the whole thing! Such as, a hill, the lift hill, a loop, ect, ect. Any suggestions?
Homeboy23 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Why not do the non-inverted loop of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit? Or the two-support lift of Intimidator 305?
KPfreak519 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 You can never go wrong with Millennium Force's Lift and First Drop...
the ghost Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 B&M Style cobra roll, it is easy and drawn out. The non inverted loop will be hard to show the twist part and people wont get it. The life is kind of a cliche (no offense guys) but a cobra roll is pretty much only on coaster, is unique, and pretty easy to draw.
Jness3 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I agree with the Millennium Force lift and drop. It looks like the support structure is mostly easy geometric shapes if looked at from the side.
cal1br3tto Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Personally I would love to draw El Toro's first drop. So photogenic. But I guess a steelie would be easier?
themeparkman25 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I mean, if you're really feeling bold, SFMM entrance with the fountains, revolution and tatsu always look pretty nice.
Cavs Fan Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Make Maverick going over its airtime hill. Nothing special but it looks really cool.
HCLcoasters Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I would go with El Toro all the way. It's so pretty and I don't think it's that hard. Just a tad tedious.
BaMiTsPaT Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I vote Millennium force's first hill just because it is so iconic and it is a breathtaking visual feature of Cedar Point
downunder Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Personally I would love to draw El Toro's first drop. So photogenic. But I guess a steelie would be easier? I second El Toro first drop, the drop looks amazing, even though it's not the steepest drop in the world, it look so steep it doesn't look real especially at the right angle.
Jds03 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I wouldn't recommend drawing from a photo, but from experience I can tell you that Intamins or B&Ms with tube supports usably work out the best for drawings, and when you study them you can easily pick up the track structure quickly making it realistic. If you have to use a photo, find something good composition wise, or combine parts that look interesting. Remember, anyone can draw a virtual loop or a huge drop in the center of a page, but that don’t make it unique. Think outside the box.
nannerdw Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 A POV view looking down El Toro's drop would look really cool.
CorkscrewFoley Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Perhaps Balder? I'm not sure from what angle, although the aerial shots are impressive...
B&Mmmmm Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 No doubt about it. OBLIVION, ALTON TOWERS. It's relatively simple and looks pretty spectacular (and is quite fun to ride!)
Moose Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I would actually suggest staying away from a wooden coaster since wooden support structures tend to fairly complex and can be difficult to draw well. I would go with a classic arrow element like a loop or a double corkscrew, simple yet elegant. Both would actually have some complexities if drawing in perspective.
CorkscrewFoley Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 While out with the dog, another one I thought of would be CP's Corkscrew, especially if you can get the midway in with it too...just a thought...
jjune4991 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Why not Sheikra's frist drop? maybe from the angle from the bottom of it?
CorkscrewFoley Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Phantom's revenge on the second drop would be cool...problem is, if you wanted to incorporate T-Bolt, that means a wood structure would be needed.
Wes Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Why don't you draw something better, like a portrait of NBA player Sam Cassell? The best part is if you screw up, no one will know the difference! You might even make him slightly more attractive.
ebl Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I would say Superman--The Escape. That's an easy one---it's just a big letter "L". Eric
thrillrideseeker Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I would say the top 3/4s of Dragster tower. Its simple, easy to draw, and its very obvious what it is!! ~Matthew
BelizeIt Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 ^^^Wes revives Sam Cassell once again. (Where is that old Diamondback opening thread 'featuring' photos of Sam Cassell?)
