This seemed iffy in terms of validity, but I thought it was worth posting just for conversation's sake.

Tianjin Development and Reform Commission has announced that in the next five years, the city will build nine tourism areas that are expected to be operational by May 2012.

According to the developers, Guangang Ecological Amusement Park will be built as a leisure and tourism complex. There will be an indoor artificial sunbathing beach, underwater world, 4-D cinema, outdoor forest hot spring and the world's largest and longest roller coaster, all hoping to draw tourists to the attraction.

Panlonggu Cultural City will be built as an industrial park and cultural complex. The cultural city will focus on media and travel, training, amusements and the environment. A Korean theme park will also be part of the development.

the longest and tallest coaster it says O_o It wouldn't be a strata coaster then. It would be a giga coaster i guess

Could be as easy as a 430' strata coaster leading into a long, crazy layout for all we know

^^Except this is China and they need to keep having wacky government projects to keep their one billion people busy.

I could see this being built, and then just falling apart quickly like so much there.

I was checking this out earlier on screamscape and I was wondering if this would actually be built. Assuming that the coaster is built, it's going to be interesting to see which manufacturer will be used. I'm betting on Intamin.

According to this news article China will build a new park called Guangang Ecological Amusement Park that will feature “the world’s largest and longest roller coaster” in the Tianjin area. According to my source the ‘new’ park will actuall be built on the site of the now closed Tianjin Amusement Park which closed down about 2 months ago.

Can't wait to hear more about this coaster in the near future. This coaster has been running through my head all day. I kept trying to figure out just how big it might and the answer is BIG! I just hope it is big and not a gimmicky coaster that is boring. we shall see...

It just says largest, not tallest. They could be referring to amount of land this ride takes up instead of height.

It uses "largest," which makes me think of height, AND "longest." I don't think they would use largest to define the amount of land it's going to take up, as nobody would really care. I'm assuming it will beat out Kingda Ka, and any other coaster for that matter. Now, lets just see if worth riding, or if it's even built.

^That's not necessarily true. Somebody from the area or with more knowledge will probably be able to confirm/deny this, but didn't Marineland's Dragon Mountain advertise itself as the largest coaster in the world, or steel coaster in the world (can't remember which), and it was based on the area that it covered?

Plus, this might be just a translational error for all we know. I would love if I was extremely wrong and it was a massive 456+ foot beast longer than Steel Dragon 2000 though

Built over 5 years? For all they now they'll build the ride and by the time the whole complex is operational a taller ride will already be open.

Just wait, it will be like when MF was first announced, then a short while later SD2000...

Not holding my breath on this one in any event.

Large: Sheer size, as measured in area usually, as in "The Beast is the largest coaster at Kings Island, spanning over 25 acres of land."

Tall: Height above the ground, as in "It doesn't matter that Kingda Ka is taller than Top Thrill Dragster, many people like dragster more - because of the lap bars."

Nowhere does it say this will be the tallest coaster...

^Even still, that means that it will be the longest if you think about it, or one of the longest. Even if it were to take up 20 acres by just going around the perimeter, that's still decently long.

I think that they are probably bs-ing, though, I can't see something announced so early being legitimate.

Indeed, it was marketed as the world's largest coaster; I know this because it was one of the first coasters I rode back in '99, about three years before I got into the hobby, and I remember consoling myself with the fact that they meant "largest by area", not tallest.

Yup i definitley i agree that it means largest by area and not height. It would also make sense that it is the largest if its the longest as it sounds like a big out and back coaster.

Am excited to see if this really happens.

Your dreaming if you think that they are going to build any type of record breaking coaster. This is all marketing hype to get interest in the project.

Que massive skepticism. This seems interesting, I guess only time will tell how large this project will be.

Although not strictly about this coaster this chinese blog post is quite interesting

If my views are not representative of anything, then you can take a look at the first vertical roller coaster ride ceremony video, 6 minutes or so at which the manufacturer B & M a company representative Walter Bolliger said, "sixty meters tall", as long as the English understand the point should be slightly can hear them. And then the translation would obstinately turned into "80 meters high." (60=80??) (60 = 80??)

The blog is talking about Walter Bolligers speech at the Chimelong Paradise Dive Machine ride opening ceremony where Walter clearly said the ride was 60m tall (in english) and when the Chinese Park Representatives made their speeches they referred to it as 80m

I am really glad that Bolliger did not understand Chinese, but really for China's top theme park, ashamed of ourselves.

Poor Bolliger, he was a well-designed roller coaster of genius, standing on such a full show, full of commercial atmosphere of the first multiplied by exaggerated ceremony, the face of a group of his thoughts so distorted displayed by an idiot, really kind of sad.

We all know Chinese parks do tend to exaggerate stats but its interesting to read about it so blatantly. Something to keep in mind with the coaster in this topic.

Doesn't Blackpool also make some crazy claim like this about how tall Big One is because it's X feet ABOVE SEA LEVEL!?!? Not actually how tall it is?!
