California Screamin' was designed like that intentionally. The Paradise Pier area is themed to an old boardwalk amusement park, and I guess for whatever reason they didn't want a REAL woodie.

 

But that first picture blows my mind. What were they thinking?

California Screaming has cool not odd supports. As for the first one WTF? To me it looks like they either,

 

1) Didn't have the right loop supports so they just throw together what they had

 

2) The supports were meant for some weird crazy element that got removed for a loop, like how Mavericks heartline roll was made then removed

 

3) or they changed their company a little

Wow, it looks like someone couldn't even be bothered to dig a 1-2ft hole to make room for the track....

This looks very strange.

 

From the looks of it the loop has been downsized, but not the support itself. So they made a few connecting tubes and done.
