Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^You do have a point, the park had enough controversy with letting a double amputee war vet ride the Ride of Steel and the last thing they want is to get another old Schwarzkopf coaster (Zonga) that has been move so many times it ended up with mechanical problems from being moved from park to park, what I'm saying is starting to sound like what happened to Nightmare at Phantom Cave (which was an old Schwarzkopf coaster that has been moved many times).

Since the park is owned/managed? from Herschend. How about an Indoor Euro Fighter in the Galaxy Theater building? Since the building is there, I doubt it would cost as much as Mystery Mine.

WARNING: I have no idea how big Mystery Mine is outside of height and cost. I'm just guessing out loud right now.

^^^ Mystery Mine definitely wouldn't fit. The smallest model, a 320+ (an Untamed clone) wouldn't fit either, which takes up a 196.8x124.7x72.2 foot cube. The Galaxy Theater is about 160x110x50 feet in dimensions. If they decided to no longer host shows in the building, (which I honestly doubt, I'm just going by your hypothetical scenario) it would have to be a custom model and the roof would likely have to be raised in at least one spot if they wanted a decent sized lift.

Don't even justify any "new ride ideas" in this thread with a response. It's not worth it...

Or they could just simply demolish Galaxy Theater and put a standard compact coaster like an Untamed Eurofighter clone, or a Tony Hawk's Big Spin/Joker clone (380/4 spinning coaster). But odds are they'll have something in Galaxy Theater this year! I don't know why they decided to leave SBNO last year?

Maybe they'll tear down Floodgate Falls and put Boomerang there, and move Batman to Boomerang's spot.

*Facepalm* Get over it, the former Batman coaster from Astroworld is never getting set up, they might as well sell Batman for scrap!

As for Floodgate Falls, if that goes then they'll have get rid of 'Cuda Falls becase that hill were the rotting remains of Floodgate Falls is what's keeping 'Cuda Falls up. So if they get rid of Floodgate Falls then 'Cuda Falls would come falling down because if there being no support for it.

Boomerang is staying put and will be in operation this season.

In response to the Boomerang absence on their site, I have reasons to suggest that it's not going anywhere. First, someone posted on their Facebook a couple weeks ago about it, and Darien Lake "liked" a comment responding to that post which said Boomerang isn't going anywhere. Second, Darien Lake has been going through somewhat of an overhaul of their website which is another possible explanation for the absence of Boomerang's listing. Third, correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard rumblings Boomerang had some significant downtime during the last weeks of the season, so that might be another reason why it was removed from the website listing.

Either way, Boomerangs are still very popular among the medium and smaller parks' guests, and currently it's a coaster that diversifies Darien Lake's coaster collection in an important way. I'm a firm believer in the concept that no ride is "safe" from removal, but Darien Lake's Boomerang hasn't reached that point yet by any means.

P.S.: Is it just me, or this thread is becoming a wish list as of recent?

This

Also, I believe a few years ago boomerang went down and it required that some new ties be welded to the top of the loop. Perhaps fatigue has prompted for more of the same.

That could also explain why they still have last year's map still up and why they're being "lazy" with the updates on their site and social media pages. There's only one week left before opening day and it seems that Darien Lake is waiting until the last minute to update their site and park map!

I think it might also be able to be attributed to that fact they are behind schedule. In the most recent picture posted on their facebook, the giant wheel's gondolas aren't even on yet. The weather wasn't very cooperative with their improvements this year. I mean it snowed until the end of March and you can't really install concrete when it's below freezing.
