Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I saw on the Facebook page just a little while ago that they're planning on adding something "rad" to the park in 2013, Along with that i saw people suggesting either a Coaster, a BMX show or a Re-Theming of Ride of Steel. Anyone have any ideas? They said they would announce it next week but I figures like Cedar Point's GateKeeper, someone has to know something...

They are referring to the Color Me Rad 5K Marathon, which takes place on June 22 at Darien Lake.

Wow, leave it to Darien Lake to disappoint us once again. They actually don't make Six Flags look that bad anymore.

I still think they should retheme/name Ride of Steel to something else like any of the names listed below

. Rad Rider

. Steel Thunder

. Lighting Bolt

. Speed Demon

. Stampede (with the trains themed as a herd of buffalo)

. Turbo: The Ride of Speed

. Extreme Scream

. Jet Scream

. Steel Rush

. Hyper Speed Coaster

Guys, they're already adding a new thrill ride! I'm sure the park is thinking ahead to the future, like another coaster for 2014?

They already made it clear in a statement that they aren't looking to add any coasters soon, they are just looking to fix the park's infrastructure.

In other words they're trying to work with what they already have in the way of coasters. So here's a list of thing that Darien Lake should do with the coasters.

. Viper - leave it as is

. The Predator - a major re-tracking and new Millenium Flyer trains

. Mind Eraser - a repaint, have both trains run, and put the mist back on for the entire season

. Boomerang - leave it as is

. Motocoaster - leave it as is

. Hoot 'N Holler (kiddie) - leave it as is

. Ride of Steel - a retheme/name, put the mist back on for the entire season, and a repaint

. The former Batman coaster from Six Flags Astroworld - scrap it!

I think they should revamp Hoot N' Holler so adults can ride it. Who's with me?

Buffalo, NY: A lawsuit filed after a tragic amusement park accident has been resolved in a confidential settlement, according to reports. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed after a roller coaster accident took the life of an Iraq war veteran.

Settlement Reached in Amusement Park Accident LawsuitAccording to WKBW (1/8/13), the terms of the settlement with Darien Lake Amusement Park are confidential, but the victim’s daughters will receive a seven-figure amount after they turn 18. The victim, Army Sgt. James Hackemer, suffered traumatic brain injuries and lost his two legs and part of his hip due to a roadside bomb. In 2011, he visited Darien Lake Amusement Park and rode the “Ride of Steel” roller coaster. Due to his lack of body mass, Hackemer was ejected from the roller coaster and died of his injuries.

The lawsuit alleged inadequate training resulted in the operator improperly allowing Hackemer on the ride when he should not have been. The amusement park owner agreed to the settlement without admitting liability. According to Buffalo News (1/8/13), the lawsuit, which alleged recklessness and negligence on the part of the amusement park’s owners and manager, was filed after an investigation cited operator error as the cause of the accident.

I think the whole color assigned tubes for Swirl City is just nuts, they should just have two slides be single rider only and the other two slides be single and double rider slides like they do with Barracuda Bay/'Cuda Falls.

Speaking of Barracuda Bay, do you think that they should move the 'Cuda Falls slides to the rest of the water park so that people don't have walk across that hot wooden bridge only find a dead end to a set of water slides that they should get rid of Barracuda Bay?

If it wasn't for the main path running between the two sections I'd say move the main entrance and then combine both sides into one big water park but that would be quite costly. BTW, I think they took out the bridge that crossed over the main entrance path when they turned the water park into a separate charge attraction. I don't recall seeing it last summer.

I came up with three plots in Beaver Bros. Bay for a future kiddie ride (plots are circled in red)

I didn't go to Darien Lake in 2012, but the bridge was there in 2011 for sure.

If they had taken out the bridge linking Barracuda Bay/'Cuda Falls to rest of the water park, then they would have either remove 'Cuda Falls or move it to the other side with the rest of the water park even if it means reprofiling Ride of Steel's helices and getting rid of Elk Lake in favor for 'Cuda Falls' new home.

The bridge was put in when Hook's Lagoon opened in 1996 back when Barracuda Bay had Cascade Canyon, Riptide Run, Pipeline Plunge, Torpedo Rapids, Floodgate Falls (back when it was still open), and 'Cuda Falls. most of the slides in Barracuda Bay were removed in 1999, but Cascade Canyon was there until 2001 when it was removed for Shipwreck Falls a year later. Did Cascade Canyon still operated from 1999-2001 or was it SNBO at the time?

I thought Cascade Canyon closed in 1999 and was removed in 2001 to make way for Shipwreck Falls. Floodgate Fall operated until 2007, and I don't see why they had to close it other than the fact that it's an old slide that is now just rotting away to a moldy algae infested pool of unsanitary grossness and the slide portion of Floodgate Falls is all filled with overgrown weeds leaving the only thing you can see if you're on top of the Giant Wheel is the gross end pool that is fenced off to hide the abandoned lazy river slide so you won't have to look at that gross thing when you're in line for 'Cuda Falls which is pretty much a walk-on since there's hardly ever line for it now.

I've made a plot for Darien Lake if they decide to move 'Cuda Falls. The red X's are what's going to removed. The arrow shows where 'Cuda Falls is going to be relocated to which would next to Big Kahuna. They would have to "downsize" Elk Lake and the Ride of Steel Helices would be left as is. If they decide to move 'Cuda Falls to rest of SplashTown they would have to call it "Barracuda Bay". The old Barracuda Bay area would have been used for a future ride or attraction.

Sorry to be blunt but, this is pointless to discuss.

1). The support structure is terrained. All new supports would be required to relocate those slides.

2). They are in rough shape. There are numerous issues that plague the slides.

Also as a side note, floodgate falls will not be removed until cuda falls is. It also must always have water in it to avoid caving in. It holds up cuda falls, so any movement will lead to cuda falls becoming structurally unsound.

^'Cuda Falls isn't in that bad of shape, at least they're still in operation, but if they did move 'Cuda Falls to where I've marked they would have reprofile the supports and put in a new water pump system to hold it up. As for Floodgate Fall would have to drained in order to move 'Cuda Falls. I really think Darien Lake should move 'Cuda Falls to the rest of the water park and use the former Barracuda Bay are for a future "dry" ride.
