Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^ I'm actually leaving Darien next week for a different opportunity. Trying to button up some other priority projects before my last day, which is why we've been quiet on social.

Stay tuned though! I think this summer is going to be another step in the right direction for Darien Lake.

So who is going to fill Doug's spot? Will this thread recieve an equivalent in the near future?

The park is currently accepting applications for the position.

Several other full time positions are open too.

First let me start by congratulating you Doug on a new opportunity! I have to say that you have been the first main employee of the park to interact on this forum regularly. I know other who have seasonal jobs at the park have interacted with us, but having you here has been nice. It is nice to know that some of our thoughts and rants are getting heard. Don't get me wrong, some thoughts should not be heard, but some definitely should.

Best of luck in your next endeavor

That's odd. I don't see how they could fit in another car, as there isn't room to expand the gates or station. I bet it's a typo. I'm not really a fan of the rainbow colors, but I'm not going to whine about it like it's Valravn . The article states that they will be translucent, so the "see-through" element should be pretty cool.

I just cant wait to see how RoS rides. It should be a huge improvement over how sluggish it was running last season.

I got some name ideas for Darien Lake's new water slide complex

* Rainbow Mountain (because of the concept art for the slide complex has rainbow colors)

* Dragon Falls

* New 'Cuda Falls ( )

* The Snake Pit

* YOLO Falls

* Rainbow Racers

* Cascade Canyon (Why not bring back an old ride name?)

The new train and the new slides are pretty decent investments for Darien Lake! Investing in the biggest ride at the park and fixing some of the "pinch points" in the waterpark seems like a great step forward for 2016! It should also be interesting to see which coasters will get back to the 2 train operations as aforementioned on this thread. Regardless,I am personally pretty excited for this season!

I guess I can just kiss my hopes of Darien Lake building anything water park related in the former Barracuda Bay area goodbye since Darien Lake is keeping all of the water park stuff to that one area by Elk Lake near the main gate. But at least they getting rid of the separate water park entrance which was SBNO since 2011 when Darien Lake decided to bring back one price admission for both the theme and water parks after a one season "experiment" of having a separate admission for just the water park.

As for "dry" rides, I just hope that Ride of Steel, Motocoaster, Predator, and Viper have two train operations this season. I just can't take the whole "wait in line forever" thing all because of one train operations and no "skip the lines" program.

^Its been stated countless times in this thread that Ride of Steel will be one train this season. You've been involved in said discussions numerous times. I don't know what's up in the air about it anymore.

Why one train operations again, is Darien Lake too cheap to buy two trains for Ride of Steel?

You are acting like this is a surprise when its been mentioned several times before in this thread.

The reason for just 1 train is likely because the money they have for improvements this year is already spent with the new ride and the train. The water slide is costing about $2.88 million and I think I saw somewhere that new Intamin trains are around $200k (could someone confirm the typical cost?)

If my numbers are correct, once you count the tax incentives the park received from Genesee County, that comes out to about $3 million this year. Last year the two projects totaled around $2.5 million, so the figures certainly make sense on why it is just one train this year. Its not about being "cheap", its about spending what they can based on revenue.

Personally, I would say that it is a good sign that the money for new additions appears to be increasing. Should mean we will continue to see great additions over the next few years.

And it isn't just rides that they have to use budget on. The park has to landscape, pave midways, pay inspectors, etc. The list is almost endless. It's not like they can go over budget, as they are not the ones with the money. CNL is, and they have final say on everything.

The park is far from being cheap; Premier is doing everything in its power to make the park a better place. If anything, they are more committed and doing a better job than Herschend. There are reasons why DarienLaker's pipe dreams of Cuda Falls to return and a Pandemonium clone in the park will never come true, and that's because those ideas are not feasible and won't work. Nobody liked Cuda Falls anymore, and it was a black hole in terms of money.

Plus, with a new train on RoS, it's going to take a while to get it broken in and working correctly. It's not Knex. You can't just pop new parts in and expect it to work right. The PLC needs to be updated, the trains need to be adjusted, and the park wants to get feedback of how well it works. I know that Six Flags got it working quickly with Bizarro, but that is a much more demanding park in terms of attendance, and those trains have gotten bad and receive a lot of complaints. Premier wants to do the job right, even if it takes 2 years to get two trains running.

I will admit that I do not know a ton about roller coasters, but I guess I am not sure why ROS cannot run two trains next year? Don't get me wrong, one tran will definitely ride smoother than the other, but the GP probably would not notice.

Plus, didn't Doug say that this was being done to be able to return ROS to two train operations? Personally, I am expecting ROS to run two trains next year with Motocoaster in 2017. I would say ME would be next, but ridership is so low that one train still does not create major waits. Plus I think the park has the majority of parts needed for ME's second train, so just a few parts could make a new train.

No, because the two trains are not exactly the same. From my understanding it would cause faults and other problems because the trains would run at slightly different speeds. The sensors are really sensitive to that type of thing.

Is everybody in this thread retarded? Doug has stated multiple times that they are getting one train next year and another the next. And Jesus Christ Darienlaker, why do post questions you know the answers to? I'm not trying to backseat moderate, but oh my god people.

This may have been stated a bit on the harsher side, but overall I agree with the sentiment.
