KDcoasterMAN Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I'll be heading to the park today. Will get pics of Mach Tower Progress and also check up on Oktoberfest, the pretzel shop and Project 2012.
robbalvey Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Don't let the weekend pass without getting your tickets for TPR's Busch Gardens Williamsburg day! http://www.themeparkreview.com/store/index.php?productID=139
KDcoasterMAN Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Stopped by the park today for a few hours and man was it busy! hour plus lines for most of the coasters... Crowds were everywhere.. Mach Tower is progressing. The Catch Car went up the tower for a few hours today with workers accompanying it. Water dummies are on site!
VandeSte Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Won't make it there to BGW this year. Miss that park, since leaving Virginia three years ago. Will have to get there next year when the new coaster opens, though.
KDcoasterMAN Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 small percentage of the photo's of the day... Note the water dummies "standing by" to be used for testing... New thematic elements have been added like the lights under the themed superstructure. Moser tower equipment! Nothing to see here... move along... empty. for now. Soon this grassy field will hold a 22,000 sq. ft. Event build for the 2012 roller coaster. Marker Chuck, they opened it... just for you. arsty shot to end this update.
cfc Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 Chuck, they opened it... just for you. They sometimes open the gates behind the funnel-cake shop in Germany, too, on busy days.
T-BONDIcoasterkid Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Braztaz, I was there too! figures, I missed the catch car testing, phooey! I thought the catch car was not running at all. Well that stinks.
VandeSte Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 small percentage of the photo's of the day... Very excellent pics! Like the sign design for the pretzel/beer shop. Can't wait until next year to see BGW again. Again, great job on the pics
Expoman Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Great pics. Can't wait for Mach Tower. I have been waiting forever for a drop tower to come to Busch Gardens. This is going to be a great addition to the park. I love that the tower is right on top of the ravine, it is going to make the tower feel a little bigger when the riders are staring down into the Rhine River. I was upset when people were whining about the height. I understand that Drop Zone is larger, but Mach Tower is going to make up for that in its theme and extra elements. I believe that Busch Gardens knows what they are doing.
esvadj Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Not opening in time for Memorial Day. Via Bush Gardens Facebook: An issue found during preliminary ride testing requires us to postpone Mäch Tower’s opening while we install components ordered from the Italy-based manufacturer. The anticipation for Mäch Tower has been overwhelming. To ensure we deliver the best attraction possible, we decided to postpone the opening and will announce a new date soon. Please continue to check our website, Facebook and Twitter page for the latest information. Thank you.
DJeXeL Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Being that it's Busch running this project......I see no need to be worried. Now Six Flags on the other hand...........
bejackso Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 mach tower being delayed even further? not good. i was really lookin forward to riding it this weekend.
cfc Posted May 23, 2011 Author Posted May 23, 2011 Unfortunate, but if there's an issue, it needs to be dealt with. Busch just wants to do it right.
esvadj Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Unfortunate, but if there's an issue, it needs to be dealt with. Busch just wants to do it right. I agree 100%. I was planning on going Sunday or Monday to try the ride, but I'll wait. Now I'll just wait till TPR day on the 19th.
Skycoastin Steve Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Well this means I might be able to go for Mach Tower's opening day.
netdvn Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I was kinda hoping that they could get all the kinks out before Memorial Day. Oh well! - Kinda makes me wish everything was done a bit sooner, but what do I know?
Visioneer Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I remember the good ol' days when new attractions pretty much opened with the new season or shortly after. All the kinks were typically worked out in time for the summer crowds. It's a very different industry; very different times we live in too. Awesome pics ... and it still looks carny up close but overall okay. Goodbye "it's in the details." Iich werde dich vermissen.

The thing is... off-seasons are getting shorter and shorter at many parks too with Halloween events, Christmas events, etc.
Saldek Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 ^BGW also had other construction commitments in Oktoberfest with the new pretzel shop.

I know carowinds and dollywood are good at doing this.

I know carowinds and dollywood are good at doing this. Look how SFMM had to close one whole section of their park to install the new coaster. I think I would rather be told ahead of time that the ride/attraction is not going to be ready opening day and let it go at that. I totally agree with the shortened off seasons putting time constraints on new construction. You just can't have bulldozers and cranes running through a park when there are guests enjoying any or all of the holiday festivities. I am kinda glad more parks are getting into the Halloween/Christmas seasons as it gives more of a chance to get around and visit them without cramming every trip into a 4 month season. If this causes some delays for new things, so be it.
edrho64 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I think that Dollywood has always had their new attraction ready for opening day.
cfc Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 ^Good for Dollywood; however, this is the BGW thread. Let's stay on topic, folks. There could be any of a number of factors for the delay, and the park just wants to get the job done properly. They started testing, and they found a problem. That's what testing is for.
jarmor Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Look how SFMM had to close one whole section of their park to install the new coaster. But thats a year round park with no off season... I understand and sympathize with busch but the first thing that comes to my mind is "Its just a drop tower"...
