rctneil
Helix is looking better and better all the time so I really cannot wait to ride!!
Loefet
More lovely comments, awesome!! Question - will this coaster's final name be Helix, or is that just the project name. It was the project name at first, but it sort of stuck and will be called it as well. They have installed loads of track pieces today, finished up the S-turns and started on the Lisebergbanan turnaround as well. It also seems like they have installed the entry of the Heart-line roll , but I can't tell for certain on the web-cams. Now they are preparing to move the crane, either to the station or to another location to get a better angle to fit the track pieces on the plot furthest away in that turnaround since the Lisebergbanan lift is in the way for this crane. But who know, they might be moving it out of the way, to get a larger crane in it's place. Much done today. Seems like they are preparing to pour two large slabs in the pretzel area, also much of the track at the end of the ride is installed. Is it just me or is the track to the entrance of the Heart-line roll in place, can't wait for it to be finished. Loads of progress on the station so far, it really looks like a station now I'm not 100% sure on some parts of this image, but I'm pretty sure it's OK. The biggest question is if they installed the top of the drop out of the station was installed yesterday after it was delivered or not. But as always, pink = installed track. andybarnes84
Just when I was starting to forget about Helix along comes an update! This is going to knock Blue Fire out of the water
LiMiT
I am just impressed by Helix and the work done to incorporate it into the hillside. It interacts with other rides well, especially Lisebergbanana.
Jon Sabo
I think I am looking forward to this coaster the most for 2014! This beauty looks incredible!!!
RoCo
The more I see of this ride, the more I regret not being able to do the Scandi Trip this year. All these updates make me more and more depressed that I can't do Scandi this year. I can't wait to see all the videos and pictures from the trip! This looks stupendous. Awesome, awesome report! tooooobbe
Will make a trip from Stockholm to Gothenburg early june. Can't wait to ride this. Liseberg is so much better than Gröna Lund.
_koppen
Now the big question: Do any of you think this ride will be better than Blue Fire? I think it will be better. Blue Fire only have two really good elements, which are the barrel roll, and the turn right after the loop. This ride have both of those, but also the pretzel loop, the helix around the tree, the top hat, hang time corkscrew out of the station and the last airtime hill, all of which are likely to be really good elements. Some of them will probably turn out less spectacular than it looks, but still it will probably in the end have more epic elements than Blue Fire. Loefet
^ Completely agree!! Final brake run have been flying in today, and now they are getting really close with turn into the station. Can't wait for the rest of the track in this area. Getting close to connecting it all up.
Loefet
Helix Blog Update - Moving in Helix have finally started to move into the station now, not only have the completely installed the brake run with all it's extra bits, but also the station track and drop have been installed. Unfortunately no Heartline-roll yet, even though all the supports are in. But today after installing the brake run they moved to the Dive and Helix bit just before the second launch. Top hat is scheduled to go in in week 8-9, according to the plan as of now, but RCS are doing as they please so who knows really. Also the second of all the slabs in the pretzel loop area have been poured today, and the rest of them are close to be poured, so they will finally soon be done there. Source: http://projekthelix.se/helix-har-flyttat-in/ Onto some images from today's blog update: Can't wait to stand here and getting ready to board Going down!! More brake run. Brake run I don't know how they managed to get this piece in place And updated with the information of the progress today, pink = installed track Until next time!! rctneil
Wow! Thanks for the update. They really are speeding through construction as of now. That drop out of the station looks brilliant. I take it the train does a 90 deg right hand bend out of the station and then down that drop? Going down the drop around that helix and straight into the first launch is going to be pretty epic and June cannot come fast enough!
Loefet
^ Thanks!! I take it the train does a 90 deg right hand bend out of the station and then down that drop? No, the turn is between the final brakes and the switch-track. The first drop is straight out from the platform I believe that it really can produce some great airtime in the back of the train. rctneil
^ ah right, Thanks for clarifying! Going to be a great ride from what I have seen so far.
SharkTums
Have they announced the height restriction for this ride yet? I'm assuming 130cm like BluFire but figured I'd ask in case it was different.
Loefet
Have they announced the height restriction for this ride yet? I'm assuming 130cm like Blue Fire but figured I'd ask in case it was different. Believe it or not, that question is the most common one on Liseberg FB and the Helix Blog. But unfortunately it's not yet decided on what the height restriction will be, it will be determined when they have started testing the ride. So I would guess that sometime in late March early April they will release what kind of restrictions we will see. I hope that we will see a 130 cm restriction like Blue Fire, but seeing that Helix is supposed to be "a lot" more powerful, then it may end up at 140 cm. By "a lot", I mean that the forces are going up to 4.3 g's on Helix compared to a maximum of about 3.2 g's on Blue fire.
KingRCT3
If that matters, the height restriction for Alpina Blitz (the Mack megalite at Nigloland) will be 140cm.
Loefet
If that matters, the height restriction for Alpina Blitz (the Mack megalite at Nigloland) will be 140cm. Yes, and so is Storm at Etnaland. But then again, Manta at Sea World San Diego is only 122 cm, sure it's a smaller and more gentle ride, but it gives us the range to work with. I would still guess that Helix may end up at 140 cm though.
gerstlaueringvar
140cm is way too harsh for families! If the restraint of Mack launch coaster train can secure a 122cm rider, why not set the rider height limit as low as it can? As far as I know from the posts about Manta, it is an intense family coaster and I guess Sweden is known for maximize the rider range and test the limit of a ride (*cough*Insane*cough*). Maybe the rider height limit will be a bit more than 122cm as Helix is much bigger than Manta but I guess it would be under 140cm.
Loefet
^ I really doubt that you would be allowed on Helix at 122 cm, heck you can't even ride Lisebergbanan on your own at that height. Best case scenario would be 130 cm, which would put it at the same level as Balder. Last row will be 140 cm though, just as it is on Blue Fire since they are the "big Boy" seats. On another note, the pressure on the behind the scenes tour this time have been phenomenal, over 800 people have registered for it. So we have to wait and see how it all works out I promise a lot of images of it though

Loefet
Gothenburg and Liseberg to host EAS 2015 The local paper just posted an article about that EAS will come to Gothenburg next year. It will be located in the massive Exhibition across the street from Liseberg so it's really fitting Also Liseberg are aiming to have the park opened during those days, so that the local people will notice that the EAS is in town (falls in with the rumoured Halloween opening). Ap0ptosis
"Not for the public" :'( somehow i get the feeling you will be able to get in and provide is with pictures anyway Beeing in southeast asia, I will miss yet another "helix irl tour". I am glad I have your updates to rely on!
SharkTums
Interesting that they're waiting to announce the restriction till they test and ride it. I would be very shocked and disappointed if they went with 140cm. I mean X2 is 122cm and that's one of the rougher more forceful rides out there. 130cm makes sense for the park and the country as a whole.
Loefet
^^ Who knows And you are welcome, scroll down and enjoy!! ^ The restriction on X2 is one I can't understand at all. I'm well over 122 cm and I don't feel like the restraints are sufficient (based on my rides on Eejanaika, which by the way have a restriction of 130 cm). And based on what I heard about Helix during the visit today, then I would not be surprised if it will end up at 140 cm, even thjough for me 130 cm would be good enough. Anyway, onto the visit today!! Official Helix IRL walk, Take 2!! So today was the second official behind the scenes tour, this time during a school holiday, so there were plenty of interested to take the tour. There were a total of 800 interested, but only about 300 were allowed to come for the actual walk. There were so many in fact that they were forced to stage multiple groups on the tour which covered 5 different areas with various bits of information at each of them. I can summarize the information that was given about Helix to that it might be a lot more intense and forceful than we have all thought. This event really made me want to ride it a lot more than before, you can't really say much more that it's going to be EPIC!! Onto the images: Panorama.zip I was able to get a new Panorama of Liseberg, download, unzip and enjoy Our group are heading to the first observation/information spot On the way we pass another Helix, this time on Lisebergbanan Balder says Hi!! First stop was Helix helix, where Andreas Anderssen (the Liseberg CEO) welcomed us to this trip. I have to say that, judging by the supports in place, it looks way better than any of the renderings have shown before It's really tight and close to the ground. And it's at this location that Helix will produce it's maximum g-force. All 4.3 of them POWERR!!! A crane removing the form from the last footer in this area, the area which still have footers to be completed now is the Pretzel area (that I saw) It's going to be tight up here as well where Helix will cross itself at the entry/exit of the Helix Next stop at the second Launch, where we got a quick description of the LSM system as well as other interesting information Such as that you will zip through the inverted Top-hat at around 40 km/h!! Old support of Flume ride And the new one already installed You will later zip through this corner at around 60 km/h and then enter the launch that will get the speed up to 90 km/h before the Top-hat, with an acceleration of up to 1 g. Onwards!! I though that this support looked a bit funky and wouldn't fit with the rest at this turnaround. It seems like they couldn't reach the footer with their small crane due to the Lisebergbanan lift-hill. One section of the Heart-line roll is in place And the supports for the rest is waiting for their track pieces Hmmm, they need to do something about that tree Can't wait to see this bit finished A peak of one of the s-turns BRAKES!! Made of ZnSn6, whatever that stands for Final block before the station, with it's own brake fins, LSM fins and soon to be installed friction brakes YAY station Much of the interior of the maintenance shed is now completed, with the work platforms and lighting is in place The sliding lock for the switch track is in place at this end, I would guess that it's already in at the other end as well LOOK, is it a bird, is it a plane, NO ITS MR CRANE JUICED UP ON RED BULL!! See it's flying Oooo, the switch track is laying here in two bits The RCS guys are screwing Helix together the best they can Station Stop Close up on the new façade of the Helix station building. Looks a bit medieval Close up on the switch track Hello turnaround The lovely first drop The train will swoop up the first corkscrew at over 50 km/h Adding a few sensors for the launch computer to get the right speed to sync the LSM units And then reach a top speed of over 70 km/h before entering the first launch for a little extra boost Weeee Liseberg is empty, but still there is plenty of things happening On the last visit I asked why there are so much strengthening of the track around the support connections compared to other mega coaster, and according to the Mack guy that answer that question then it's due to more static forces in use on Helix Lovely airtime, there have been discussions on how much airtime this hill will deliver, but based on what I heard today then I would lean towards a lot!! Weee One of the last footers at the pretzel area Swooping down The top speed of the ride will happen on the turn closest to the camera, where the train will hurtle along the track at 100 km/h, meaning that the Heart-line roll might be plenty fast Getting ready to finish of the footers?? Rabalder with it's winter cover Getting ready for the summer Empty Liseberg Just imagine this view with the massive Top-hat in place <3 Andreas Andersen greats another batch of visitors Well that was really it with this tour, but on our way out then we did a slight detour past the staging area Not much track here really Just 10 or so track sections, they are apparently waiting for somewhere around 30% of the total number of pieces, so there is still plenty of stuff that have to arrive A big load of supports They come in all sizes These massive ones must be for the Top-Hat Thanks Liseberg for another great visit, will be back soon So with a final image from the location across the motorway I say thank you all for reading this update, and I look forward to take pictures for the next one Don't forget the massive Panorama at the top. It gives you all a great overview of the mountain side and Helix. The last image of this update comes from one of the official web cams, sometime after the visit. It seems like they are soon getting ready to install the Switch track!! Until Next time!!
