Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

Hmm. Website now says the ride opens "early summer" and not late May. Looks like Screamscape's sources were right? Delayed. Of course, if it's to add all the cool themeing mentioned above, I'm all for a delay. Won't be open when I go Memorial Day, but I'll go back late summer to get my ride. Glad SFA is trying to do this right. If it gets good results maybe corporate will spend some more money on the park.

At least unlike we saw with Batwing it's not being delayed for technical/mechanical issues.....if the park continues to improve at this pace I miight try to talk my friends into returning within a couple more seasons.

Not a big fan of this flavor of the month Apocalypse theme for coasters. Of course, better that than scrapping the ride, but hopefully this is the extent of it for the time being.

Yeah I wonder where they got the crashed plane idea from, how original!

At least the roughness fits the apocalypse theme unlike swarm which is almost inappropriately gentle.

Even though I am excited beyond belief the park has finally gotten a "new" coaster I still will not let myself be fully excited for the theming because I know how this park has not taken care of theming in the past. Hopefully this new management crew takes what they are doing to heart and keeps up with it.

^ The good thing about destruction theming is that even if they don't do any upkeep, it just adds to the theme!

As usual, Wes cuts right to the heart of the matter.

From the description, it sounds like they're going to have a plane crashed into the side of Skull Mountain, which would be a nice touch.

I like that they went with more a generic theme instead of a super hero theme. The super hero ones are just getting old to me.

Well given the location within the park it does make sense...makes you wonder if they'll drop the whole pirate theme for that area?

Latest rumors seem to indicate that it'll be back to the waterpark again in 2013 with the possible construction of some of those planned waterslides from 06/07 that never got built. They need to focus on expanding the ride park, not the waterpark.

If they do build a new slide complex, I really hope it's back where Bahama Blaster is. That path that crosses under the current tube-slide complex leads only to that one slide, so having something else back there to draw people in would be nice!

^Yeah, that area with the lazy river also is closed on a lot of days when employees can be used elsewhere, when it's not the middle of the summer. I honestly forget that it's back there a lot. It is a nice area, but yeah, it could use some touching up!

^Ah, alright. I wasn't really up to date on things back in 2007, so I missed that we already had approval for the complex! Which side are we talking? There's room on either for it, really, though putting it back behind the lazy river area might give them a reason to make that part look a little nicer.

Visted the park yesterday. Construction has started on the roof of the station. It's curved so it looks like it'll be themed to an aircraft hangar.

SIDE NOTE : A Top Glow Watergun game has been installed where the Skull Island Fountain was.

A few more exciting things were happening at the Apocalypse site today, May 6th!

Here are the pics.

Enjoy!

One car of a train was actually on the tracks!

The have attached a plane to the mountain and positioned it to look like it has crashed into the mountain.

There were painters putting some final touches on the track paint.

My suggestion to anyone that will be taking Apocalypse out for a spin is to stick to the front row. Exclusively. It's like taking a time machine to the days before B&M started designing the world's most expensive merry-go-rounds.

It's a bummer that the Station House didn't accompany the ride to SFA. It's design caused a good percentage of the people to unknowingly walk right past the row 1 line, resulting in 2-3 train waits for anyone paying attention.

Okay, that looks HOT! I'm glad they did go with black supports; they really help the orange and gray stand out.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the theming turns out, as it sounds fairly impressive. Looks good so far!

I went to the park yesterday for the first time this season to get a season pass. I was happily blown away with the park. It looks great!!! It was very clean and the employees were being really nice. All the random high fives walking through the park were a really nice touch. All of the improvements have come a long way. I love that they painted the pool on Shipwreck Falls as well as got the water fall working again. I loved that every ride I encountered was running!!

I was a little irritated that the only coaster running two trains was Wild One and it was the ONLY coaster with no line all day. My only other complaint is I WISH they would clean up the area behind Roar. Going down the first hill on Roar and looking off to all the junk they have there is such a eye sore in my opinion.

^I told you the park is doing Great! The waterfalll on shipwreck was working last year. I think the are behind roar is where they are bringing in equipment, haul their junk to and from, and store things for the construction. I think they will clean up the area once they are finished with Apocalypse.

I appreciate the effort they're making to "theme up" Apocalypse, particularly by fixing up the old Skull Mountain set. I just wish something other than Iron Wolf was going in there, but at least they're getting something.

SFA is the poster child for unrealized potential. I hope they stay on the right track.
