The "Official" IAAPA in Orlando 2007 Thread

Recommended Posts

Whew! Every year that I go to IAAPA it always amazes me how many different companies are related to the theme park industry - it always seems like new inventions and new companies are constantly cropping up and it is always fascinating to see. I am glad to see the event back in Orlando, and from listening to the vendors, many of them are as well. This year had many familiar booths and also some new trends - it seems many more asian firms are trying to inch into the american ride market.

Anyways... on to the photos!

These were some cool mini-versions of some popular flat rides.

B&M *finally* decided to change the booth from the Superman seat! YaAEEE!

Crazy, huge, customizable props also were the rage. Parks really have a lot of options with themeing.

Ma'am - I don't think you can snap this flyer!

DSC06454.jpg.41d6eb59b42830338bd4e5c47418cbb6.jpg

The rest of the outdoor area was dominated by inflatables.. the trend that wont die!

DSC06453.thumb.jpg.580cbab910f1dd16ca7d26529738113b.jpg

In the outdoor midway they had very few rides - this was a odd disc-o type ride.

This is where the dinner in the sky loaded - the crane was huge.. it would take a big budget for a park to pull off.

DSC06451.jpg.bf1206eecc685bd7c4928753a548e651.jpg

This was the dinner in the sky concept - interesting but not very practical except for perhaps special events.

DSC06450.jpg.3bc79c313ae2a4d64202852f0e96d808.jpg

Extreme and interactive play areas for kids were also hot ticket items. More active the better!

One of the many Asian firms that was looking to gain a foothold in the ride market.

Trains with wheels seemed to be a hot trend - no less than 5 different booths featured them.. WTF!

Everything's more better with more butter.

That coaster with the Ferris wheel lift looks really bizarre. I wonder what Ferris-wheel-hating coaster enthuiasts will think of it?

yah. we have a jumpin jackpot at a family fun center here in lincoln. Its a really good game and it only costs 1 token. I have gotten the jackpot and it was about 500 tickets or so. Its all a rythm until you get to the end. then just jump as fast as you can.

If your lucky you'll win.

I don't hate ferris wheels, it's just the constant loading/unloading that makes them a little intolerable, IMO. As for the ferris wheel lift, I think it's a gimmick that will get old and impractical fast.

Thanks Reed!

I love all the wacky things you can find at IAAPA. I don't need to see the same pix of all the same booths year after year...but come on, no Intamin booth coverage???

^IAAPA is an industry only trade show. It is also only going to be held in Orlando when on the east coast, and Las Vegas when on the west coast.

I think Dinner in the Sky should be a drop ride. Haul up to the top, then put your face over the plate. When it drops, catch the food in your mouth as it flies up. Repeat until dessert.

The lantern ride was a hang glider ride of some kind. I don't think it's a bouncy bouncy like the kanga. I still don't get the lanterns with hang gliding, though. And why was there green slime on the motor housing platform? What theme are they going for with green slime, coach lanterns, and hang gliders?

Nice TR and photos.

I always look forward to this event as it is always interesting to see what is new. Golden Horse looks like it could be a major name in the industry, and if an invert like the one pictured is built, then they will really make a name for themselves. Dinner in the Sky looks like a cool idea, but it is far to impractical to be used for an event.

I played that Virtual Jump Rope game at the Kalahari once - I thought it was a little weird to play, especially in an arcade full of people. It just looked like a giant mirror, and I felt like an idiot trying to play it.

Also, that ride by Golden Horse looks like a carbon copy of Kumali at Flamingoland, no?
