P. 394: New DCA attractions and Esplanade arrival experience!

Finally the west coast has bragging rights again.

To be fair, if you think that getting one solid E-Ticket...the first REAL centerpiece attraction in almost 20 years is really "bragging rights" - then go for it, brag all you want.

I'm going to go on a rant here -

It really irks me to no end to watch all the Californians brag and be all "OMFG WE ARE SOOOOO AWESOME" whenever a new ride gets built at the Disneyland Resort. Here's the reality check - there are LOTS of great rides built at many different Disney parks. And, guess what? The best ones are located at Tokyo Disney.

You don't hear the Japanese, French, or even Floridians constantly shoving their awesome rides in other peoples faces, and it's obnoxious as hell when the Californians do it.

And yes, Radiator Springs Racers DOES look really, really, really awesome...and I really want to get out and ride it. But I'll be honest, it's the attitude of many Disneyland fan boys being so obnoxious that makes me NOT want to come ride it. The last thing I want to do when I go visit a park, that I actually am choosing to spend lots of money to visit, is have annoying people tell me how awesome it is, and how much better it is, and how "our park has this" and "our park has that" and "our park is so much better", blah, blah, fu*king, blah.... Honestly, I don't want to hear it, and it makes me like the park a LOT less because of it.

People ask me all the time "Robb, why do you hate the Disneyland resort?" Well, I don't. I actually really like it. I *hate* the fanboys who happen to frequent it and have to remind you how amazing it is. As though they are trying to over compensate for small male reproductive organs or something. Just stop, ok? No one wants to hear it!!!

And here's another reality check - there is really no need to continue telling people how awesome the ride is, as though no awesome ride has ever been built before...

Because I got two words for you....

LAVA. FU*KING. MONSTER.

Yeah, so there.

/end rant.

That are 3 words Robb, but i get feeling. It's the same with Efteling here in Holland...

Well, never went to California before. I'm really looking forward to ride this, maybe next year?

Amazing vid David!

The FU*KING is just a given!

Oh, absolutely! I would probably like Efteling a lot more if it wasn't for all the people who constantly tell me how OMFG AMAZING AWESOME the place is....

Thank you Robb.

You know I fully agree with your sentiment regarding "Disneyland Fanboys". People just assume I'm one, but this isn't the case AT ALL.

As Robb said, the last true "original" E-Ticket that Disneyland got was Indy in 1995. Nemo was a remake, Space Mtn was a remake, etc.

Of course DCA has a few E-Tickets (Soarin', GRR, Screamin', ToT) but this is truly the first truly IMMERSIVE E-ticket in the history of DCA. It's great to see, and I do think that the park is on the right track. It's still not as good as Disneyland, or MK, or EPCOT or Tokyo.

Why can't people just be happy we have a great new ride, great new land and awesome new Main Street in a park that has needed it for 11 years?

This right here.

Why CAN'T the majority of the Disneyland fanboys just take solace in the fact that they have a really good, new attraction. They don't need to throw it in people's faces like they are suddenly so much better than someone who isn't a Southern California local.

Many people forget that the reason WHY all this money needed to be pumped into DCA is because Disney built one of the worst, most laughable Disney theme parks ever in Southern California. Congratulations, 11 years later the park is now finally almost "on par" with most of the rest of the worlds Disney parks.

It just always seems that the goal of the Disneyland fanboys is how much they are "better", when in reality, you're just a Disney geek....and you're no better than a Disney geek that lives in Florida, Ohio, or Nebraska....

Deal with it.

Robb, is there a thread where I can find all your 'rants'? Because even when I think these same things, I never let them out... As much as I like Disneyland and California Adventure, I just wonder here and there what took them so long. And the attitudes of some of the people in the happiest place on earth get on my nerves (those I have left anyway).

This is a big issue. NOt only did DCA ultimately cost WAY more than it should have, I feel the same for RSR.

I mean, really, DCA is a decent park now, but it sure better be for the $2+ billion they've poured into. And RSR looks great, but $250 million for Mr. TOad on steroids and a short, slow outside race track, seems a bit on the pricey side.

I noticed on another thread that DCA had what I believe to be as #4 attendance in US parks. May have been in the CP or SFMM threads while an argument was going on again about which is better.

Anyways, DCA has always had a bad reputation. Did they just recently start increasing attendance or did they always have the numbers but with dissatisfied park goers on the experience after?

On a side note, I was reading about what WestCot was supposed and really though that sounded interesting. I also stumbled across a map that I saved on what the whole Disney area was planned to look like. Pretty neat stuff if it is legit.

I definitely think we should have a "Robb's Rant of the Week" thread.

Also, the animatronics on RSR look absolutely fantastic!

Someone tweeted today that the entrance to DCA was now the best entrance of any other Disney park. It looks amazing and all but they obviously haven't left the state of California.

But honestly, I am really impressed by all the changes and Radiator Springs Racers looks amazing!

The one thing DCA had going for it attendance-wise was a million annual passholders who could get in for free.

short, slow outside race track

Feels just as fast as Test Track does. Hard to compare it with Journey since most of the fast portions are enclosed.

Also since the CM "cone of silence" has been lifted, I'll give a few thoughts on Cars Land:

- Radiator Springs Racers is very fun. It doesn't have the super big OMFG thrills of Indy or Journey, but I think they were going for a different tone to appeal to a wider age range. As I'm sure many of you have seen the video, you know the dark ride portion is very well done and fun (though would love a few more scenes to help round it out some) and the racing section is pretty awesome. A few small pops of air on the bunny hills too. Plus, getting to see all the impressive rockwork as you whiz by is just really cool. The queue is really well done as well, imagine Big Thunder's queue on a much larger scale.

- Luigi's is SUPER FUN. I know this ride was getting a lot of negative reviews, but basically if you follow the instructions (lean, don't lean too much) it's really easy to maneuver and you'll have an awesome time. The wife and I were able to move around the course with ease, and catching and throwing the beach balls add a fun element to the ride. I wouldn't wait an hour for it, but it's definitely a cool ride and I'm glad the concept worked out this time. The inside portion of the queue has a bunch of details that pass some of the time.

- Mater's is okay. You get some good whips around the turns, but it's obviously a themed flat ride and doesn't try to be much more than that. Plus you have to hear Larry the Cable Guy sing 10000x while you're in the queue. One of those things to go on if there's less than 10 minutes of wait time. Definitely a good "date night" ride though, as you smush into your riding partner a bunch.

- Flo's was good for counter service, the food quality was definitely better than a lot of standard venues. It's sort of a twist on diner food, so if that's not your thing, you probably won't like it. I'm interested to try some of the items at Cozy Cone, especially the novelty soda flavors.

- Overall, the land has a LOT of detail, and it's the closest land in any of the stateside parks to come close to Tokyo Disneysea. The rockwork is outstanding. There's a s-load of detail everywhere. I'm not a huge fan of the Cars movies, so it's a little hard to go nutso over a recreation of the town in the movie (as opposed to if they tried another theme). Still, you can tell they poured a ton of heart and effort into making the place look freaking amazing, and it shows.

- It does get really hot in that land, and there's not a lot of shade as of yet. So just be prepared for that.
