Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

^Sadly Disneyland has been neglected for Decades................There hasn't been a 'new' true E-Ticket attraction since what Indiana Jones? (When was that 1995???) Redoing the Subs, or Star Tours doesn't count in my book.

 

Disneyland is a HUGH cash cow for the Disney ABC 'corporation', and they apparently don't see the need to interject capital into Disneyland, so they DON'T!!!

 

I realize that 'Disneyland' is iconic, but still a major E-Ticket attraction should be added to keep this amazing park up to date.

 

Time will tell..................I'm sure there are many attractions on the 'drawing board'. Let's hope they actually use them.

^I don't think it is fair to say they haven't invested in Disneyland. They've spruced up attractions, built new ones, consistently updated entertainment offerings...Just because they haven't built an E-ticket attraction doesn't mean they've ignored the park.

I have no complaints. I would be ok with the current offerings for another decade (or until I ride every possible Star Tours ride). Ok, maybe not that long, but they are spending a ton of money on DCA and are putting a lot into the Matterhorn rehab. I think it's great they're working on making sure what's currently out there is great before they focus on a major new attraction at Disneyland.

If you were to say that in the 1990's back when the park was being mis-managed, then I'd certainly agree with you on that. However, it's not the 1990's, and management has progressed a lot since the Eisner era of Disneyland. I'm not quite sure what you mean by neglected, because of all the theme parks I've been to (which isn't quite a ton yet, but I've still been to some parks like Busch that are of high quality), Disneyland is by far the least neglected looking as far as upkeep and ride updates go. We also must remember how landlocked DL is compared to parks like WDW that basically have unlimited space. We should also take a look at how much management cares about fixing DCA with better theming that makes sense, a new land, and a new E-Ticket.

 

Let's also not forget how an "E-Ticket" compares to a "big attraction" at any other reigonal theme park. With Disneyland, the location needs to make sense, the theming must be extensive, and the capacity needs to be up to Disney standards. It would also probably have to be underground if it was in Disney, due to the lack of room above ground, so that certainly puts a bit of a limitation on what they can do. Look at Splash Mountain, it costed $75 Million to build in 1989. Any other theme park could just invest the $20 Million and maybe add a little theming here and there and be done with it.

Just wondering why not open up both parks? Maybe they could fill DCA for a change.

 

The reason that DCA was not open for the event was because several months before Disney came up with the idea for the 24 hours party, another company bought out DCA for their own private event for that evening. Had that not happened, they would at least have had to option to keep DCA open.

 

 

 

I didn't really word that correctly. What I meant was that I feel like the focus for the next big Resort Project should be focused back onto Disneyland...

 

Yes I know crowds will always be an issue, but it seems like in recent years the park has become much busier and currently several areas of the park (most noticeably Tomorrowland) suffer from frequent overcrowding. It's come up time and time again, but could we see the re-invention of Star Tours be the first step towards fixing the "whoops we screwed up" Tomorrowland debacle that ruined the Rocket Jets and People Mover?

 

I know I'm far from the only person who wants to see something big happen to Tomorrowland, especially in it's current state. Innoventions is a total joke and could probably be turned into a new attraction with not much disturbance to park operations. People Mover is an odd case...it's the lifeblood of Tomorrowland that currently isn't flowing.

 

In any case, does a more futuristic Tomorrowland makeover seem possible in the somewhat near future?

 

Seeing as how well TR0N: Legacy did overall I still think some kind of a Lightcycle attraction, even with minimal Tron theming could be a huge hit.

 

The People mover is dead, done and gone. There was a push a few years ago to do something with the track but everything fell through. Its just not a viable option to use the track anymore. When Tomorrowland gets a re-do, again, Id expect to see the track removed. As for Innoventions, it is the target of the Tomorrowland overhaul. There's a really cool idea, and really not so cool idea right now for the site, but its coming. And might be sooner then anyone thought.

 

Main point is, DCA is done with its expansion for now, Disneyland will get the focus next. But just wait, there are bigger things brewing that are really exciting!

Yesterday, Disney President and CEO Bob Iger and I stepped behind the construction walls at Disney California Adventure park for a hard-hat tour of Buena Vista Street and Cars Land, two of the most significant elements that will cap off our multi-year expansion of the park. Led by the extraordinary team of Imagineers working on this project, Bob and I were completely blown away by the level of artistry, creativity and attention to detail of the work done so far and can’t wait for all of our Disneyland Resort guests to finally experience it firsthand.

Our day started on Buena Vista Street where we rode the iconic Red Car Trolley, explored the storefronts that line the street and then continued on to the Carthay Circle Theatre, the new icon of Disney California Adventure park. This new entrance to the park will transport guests to a romantic, idealized version of 1920s Hollywood when Walt and Roy Disney first arrived in California to begin their careers as filmmakers. Buena Vista Street will be the perfect place for guests to shop and eat, watch the parade, or just sit and soak up the atmosphere.

Then we headed to Cars Land, and when we got to the entrance of this all-new, 12-acre land, Bob and I both stopped to simply take in the stunning view before us. From the majesty of the Ornament Valley Mountain Range in the distance to the craftsmanship of each of the buildings in Radiator Springs, Cars Land is going to be a truly spectacular addition to the park.

 

 

We wandered down Route 66 looking at all of the familiar hot spots from the films that are just about complete – Ramone’s House of Body Art, Flo’s V8 Café, the Cozy Cone Motel and Luigi’s Casa della Tires, just to name a few. We ended the tour with a test ride on two of the new attractions in Cars Land, Luigi’s Flying Tires and Radiator Springs Racers, which are both going to be huge hits with our guests.

 

 

As we approach the finish line of our expansion of Disney California Adventure park, I am extremely proud of the passion, creativity and innovation that have gone into this entire project over the last several years. When we’re done, this park will be a testament to what we at Disney Parks do best – connect our guests to the iconic stories, characters and music they love…making memories that will last a lifetime.

And now for some big news – I’m pleased to officially announce that the grand opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Carthay Circle Theatre will take place on June 15, 2012! Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more details."

 

 

 

I am really excited they have finally announced the dates! Also, I am hearing= that the park will be closed on the 14th for a big media day as well as final sprucing for the big reveal on the 15th.

This afternoon, Tom Staggs, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, announced that the five-year expansion of Disney California Adventure park will be complete on June 15 with the opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and Carthay Circle Theatre!

 

 

The Happiest Place on Earth will get even happier with four new attractions – Radiator Springs Racers, Luigi’s Flying Tires, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and the Red Car Trolley – as well as new dining and shopping locations such as Flo’s V8 Café, Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream, Elias & Co. and Los Feliz Five & Dime. Disney California Adventure park will offer guests even more new experiences in addition to the attractions that have been added since the expansion began in 2007.

To accommodate a media preview and make final preparations for the opening, Disney California Adventure park will be closed for one day on June 14. Disneyland park, Downtown Disney District and the Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open for our guests on that day.

Between this and WWOHP @ufo, and given the success of disneysea, I hope that these parks continue this trend of building more immersive experiences and environment. If that's the case, then I would say the future of these theme parks look very bright given the current results

It's good to see Disney getting back to what it does best. The original version of DCA was "nice," but they gambled far too much on just using the Disney name to get it over. I'm looking foward to getting a close look at Cars Land myself.

It looks(to me) like RSR might actually have some airtime! Very cool! Personally this one reminds me much more of a coaster than something like test track or Journey! VERY excited to see what they are doing. As of now opening date is the 15th... so if there aren't AP previews... heck... maybe if I have already been on this the current plan is to get to the park Monday, June 18th at about 6am and wait outside DCA! Very excited for this. I don't think I have seen the arrival of a true(original) E-ticket... I mean, besides the ones that opened at DCA in 2001... but that was before I was a theme park geek!

A Unique Point of View: Radiator Springs Racers at Cars Land

For this point-of-view video, a camera was mounted on the driver’s side of a Radiator Springs Racers car during a recent test run in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park. Vehicles are being tested seven days a week, mostly at night. By the time each vehicle is commissioned, it will travel approximately 36,000 miles per year!

The video also shows a quick sneak peek of what to expect inside the mountain range. Guests will get to see the entire track for themselves when the attraction opens on June 15.

 

The video only shows a tiny section of the indoor section of the ride, there really ins't much of a spoiler in there if you were worried about that. Unlike the Little Mermaid attraction, they are really keeping the indoor section a secret.
