Philrad71
^ Do you think that Barkley is a starting caliber QB for the NFL? I know the Bills desperately need a franchise QB and there have been rumorings about them taking a look at him in Round One. Being that I don't watch a lot of USC games, I wondered if some of the folks in sunny California could share their opinions of him? PS - I did watch the Syracuse/WVU game last night and can't say I was personally impressed with Geno Smith, although it was only one game.
Jew
He seemed to regress this year, but I'm not sure I can totally blame that on him. Shaky O-line+bad defense+questionable play calling from his coach=lots of throws he shouldn't have made. He doesn't have prototypical NFL size or arm strength, but he is a smart QB. Also isn't much of a scrambler, but does have a very underrated pocket presence. He's also a great "locker room" guy. Ultimately I can't say he is a sure fire prospect like RGIII or Andrew Luck, but I think given that the crop of available QB's this draft all have some sort of question marks---might as well take a shot. Can't get much worse for the Bills.
Philrad71
^Thanks for the response! In what I have read in the Bills forum, some of them have also mentioned his arm strength and mobility. I remember last year that they were saying he would most likely be a top three pick in the 2013 draft, then I didn't hear a whole lot about him this year and assumed that he may have regressed a bit. But if you have an o-line line that can't protect, chances are that you have a QB that is going to struggle. I wonder if he might drop out of the first round because of this year's struggles? But you are absolutely right in that the Bills don't really have anything to lose at this point. We already have a QB (Fitz) that doesn't have an arm and while he can run the ball when he wants, his decision making at crucial points in the game is enough to make you want to tear your hair out. The good thing is that we do have a reasonably good offensive line that can protect the QB, so maybe it might work for a pocket passer QB. It's either we try grab a Barkley or Smith in the early rounds or try to go after Alex Smith or Flynn in Seattle. There are rumorings in the Buffalo News that Chan Gailey and Fitz are most likely in their last game in Buffalo today. GM is also rumored to be on the hot seat. Philrad71
^Yeah the Bills won today and have a better record than the Eagles, but I would still take Andy Reid here as a coach over Chan Gailey any day of the week. I think both coaches will be fired this week - amongst many others.
Lightning9SX
So close, Adrian comes up 9 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record. Playoff bound though, see you next week Packers. MVPeterson!
Hilltopper39
1st round playoff games are set, the Seattle vs Washington and Baltimore vs Indy are probably the most interesting first round games to me.
Philrad71
Shurmur got the ax in Cleveland and apparently Reid knew he was a goner in Philly last Friday. Looks like some GM's got let go and I'm sure there will be several firings in the next couple of days. Both the Vikings/Packers and Redskins/Cowboys games were fun to watch last night - too bad AP missed the mark by 9 yards. And of course, the Dallas fans will be looking to run Romo out of town with torches and spears after yet another season altering horribly thrown interception. I really can't believe (for a rookie QB) how awesomely RGIII can fake the hand-offs! I don't know how many times he has fooled me as well as the cameraman - and I have only watched a couple of their games this year. It's going to be fun watching them play Seattle next week! Edit: Chan Gailey fired as head coach of the Bills - can't say that was a surprise! Also Crennel and Lovie Smith....lot's of people getting it today! Jew
I'm very curious to see how RGIII fares next season. I think he has the best chance for long term success of any running QB's (best arm and seems to be a pretty level headed guy), but it will be interesting to see what happens after an offseason of defensive coaches breaking down film. This season sure has been fun to watch though.
imawesome1124
Alfred Morris I think has the brightest future of any rookie this year. He broke Clinton Portis's all-time running record his rookie year, he could be the next Adrian Peterson.

This season sure has been fun to watch though. I agree that it will be interesting to see how he does next year. Last year it was all Cam Newton and I think expectations were higher this year and then the team flopped. Not to say it was all his fault, but he certainly wasn't the media darling this year once RGIII, Andrew Luck and Russel Wilson started coming on. I will also be interested to see what becomes of some of the other starters next season. Weeden, Tannehill, Cousins (when he played) and Foles all had some pretty decent games and showed some promise. All but Cousins definitely need a better supporting cast going into next year. And I am also looking forward to teams that have starter capable QB's on their bench & what they do with them (IE: Cousins, Flynn, & Smith to name a few). I know I would trade all three of the Bills QB's to get just one of those guys!
Hilltopper39
Alfred Morris I think has the brightest future of any rookie this year. He broke Clinton Portis's all-time running record his rookie year, he could be the next Adrian Peterson. Morris is good but I think he benefits from playing in an offense that consistently gives him carries in misdirection packages where the defenders are more worried about RG3 than him. Don't get me wrong he had a great year and is a good player (helped both of my fantasy teams) but he aint no Adrian Peterson IMO, Peterson is a once in a generation kind of talent at the position who honestly may be the best running back to ever play the game. Saying Morris could be the next Peterson is like saying Derek Rose could be the next Michael Jordan. I'm very curious to see how RGIII fares next season. I think he has the best chance for long term success of any running QB's (best arm and seems to be a pretty level headed guy), but it will be interesting to see what happens after an offseason of defensive coaches breaking down film. This season sure has been fun to watch though. I think RG3 will be fine from a the standpoint of his success against other teams ability to gameplan for him but if he keeps playing the way he does he's asking to get banged up. I don't know how long he can stay healthy taking the number of shots he took this year, it's going to catch up with him eventually. There certainly seems to be a transition of sorts to the running style QB in the NFL with Griffin, Newton, Wilson, Kaepernick, Ponder, Locker, even Luck all having success in that "style" of offense. I think that style of play is here to stay because it would seem like it's a lot easier to find and develop a QB like Kaepernick or Wilson than it is someone like Brady or Manning, especially early in heir career. Two things I'm looking forward to in the off season: One- seeing where Chip Kelly winds up. Whenever that guy gets into the NFL I think he's going to be a star. His offense won't look exactly like it does at Oregon but I think your going to start seeing a lot of teams running the up tempo, play action, run option style of offense (New England already does a TON of the same stuff), and wherever Kelly winds up at will be ahead of the curve from day 1. Two- Tim Tebow in Jacksonville, it's going to happen, it needs to happen. I'm not a Tebow fan, or a hater for that matter, but in pro sports if your going to be bad at least be interesting. Tebow makes the Jags interesting from day one for better or worse, and I just want someone to give the guy one season as the full dedicated starting QB and see what happens. Jacksonville's roster is so bad right now that they are a good 2-3 years away from being competitive no matter who the coach or GM is, might as well throw Tebow to the wolves in the mean time and see what happens. You'd think I would be used to this after 24 years as a fan. It will be interesting to see how the rookie QBs do next weekend. Also Lovie Smith getting fired after a 10-win season is rough going. Philrad71
^ Agreed! You and I can understand of how hard it is to be a Browns or Bills fan and going so many years without the playoffs - it sucks. I can't believe it has been 20+ years since the glory days and we have stunk that bad ever since. They were interviewing Bills fans on the news yesterday about the firing of Chan Gailey and I couldn't believe the younger folks that said that they had NEVER seen their home team in the playoffs...really puts things into perspective when I think about it! I have heard that the owner (Ralph Wilson) just gave up control of the team to Brandon, Whaley and Nix (pres; CEO & GM). Also heard that Lovie Smith has contacted them directly about the coaching opening and that he has interest in coaching the Bills. Rumor has it that they are also going to go hard after Chip Kelly. I would take either at this point. Let's hope for the best for 2013...go Bills!
Sir Clinksalot
Big news, Ray Lewis is retiring. One of my favorite players. Sad to see him go. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8803174/ray-lewis-baltimore-ravens-says-retiring-season Should be a good playoffs, I am of course rooting for the 49ers. If the Packers win this weekend (they should) then they will travel to SF for the Divisional round. I'm just glad Minnesota won last week so that game wouldn't be in GB. I actually think Atlanta will win their first playoff game against either Washington or Seattle (or Minnesota if they happen to win). Then again, Seattle is tough (at home though). I think Seattle will win in WAS this weekend though. In the AFC, I'm not totally sold on Denver. They had the easiest schedule in the NFL. Look at their losses ... ATL, HOU, NE ... all playoff teams. The only playoff teams they beat were CIN (before they were playing as good as they are now) and BAL (when they were playing like crap). Sadly, I think NE has a good chance to get back to the Super Bowl with HOU having an outside chance, but CIN looks tough.
Hilltopper39
All I know is that when it comes down to the playoffs my money is on guys named Brady/Manning/Rodgers more so than guys named Schaub/Ponder/Flacco/Dalton. I'm really excited to see what Luck/RGIII/Wilson do in their first playoff appearances because I think all three have a very bright and successful future ahead of them, but for the time being my picks are Patriots vs Colts in the AFC Championship and Packers vs 49ers in the NFC Championship game with New England vs Green Bay in the Superbowl. Indy is my upset pick to make a deep run since they are playing well and seem to have a little magic on their side this year but might not be able to get a win in New England. I'd honestly be happy with any Superbowl combination between New England/Denver/Indy/Houston and Green Bay/San Fran/ Seattle/ Washington.
Sir Clinksalot
^ 49ers/Packers can't play in the NFC Championship game. They would play in the Divisional round. Divisional Round: 49ers play "highest remaining seed". Since GB is the 3 seed, if they win they will be the highest remaining seed. Falcons play "lowest remaining seed". So if GB beats MN they would play the winner of SEA/WAS. If MN wins SF would play the winner of SEA/WAS.
Hilltopper39
^Eh, your right, I read the seeding wrong. In that case I'll take Green Bay and Seattle in the NFC Championship game.
BeemerBoy
Green Bay vs. Denver/New England. I suppose it's still wide open to an extent, but I'll lean towards experience at QB.
Sir Clinksalot
^ I usually tend to go with experience at QB as well, but the old adage that Defense wins championships will win out. That means SF. OK, time to make fools of ourselves and make our playoff predictions: Teams listed are winning teams NFC: Wild Card: GB and SEA Divisional: SF and ATL Champ: SF AFC: Wild Card: IND and HOU (although the HOU/CIN game will be very close) Divisional: NE and DEN Champ: DEN Super Bowl: SF (yes I'm biased and will probably look like an idiot in a few weeks)

Hilltopper39
NFC: Wild Card: GB and SEA Divisional: GB and SEA Champ: GB AFC: Wild Card: IND and HOU Divisional: NE and DEN Champ: NE Super Bowl: NE Wouldn't it be fitting for Green Bay to get another shot at Seattle after the debacle in week 3? Also I could see just about every wild card weekend game begin either a great game or a blowout, should be an exciting weekend.
805Andrew
Wow no one thinks the Falcons will make it to the Superbowl? If its not the 49ers in the Superbowl, I think the Falcons will be in the Superbowl ( I hope it's the Niners though). SF will have play Atlanta probably in the NFC championship and that's the game I'm most nervous about.
Sir Clinksalot
^ ATL doesn't scare me. I'd actually be more scared of playing SEA in the NFC Championship game (even though it would be in SF).
