jten11 Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Honestly, I'm glad that I havent seen another 'record breaker' as being the tallest, fastest, etc. To me its nothing but a gimmick and a waste of space at a park. I'm definately a quality over quantity type person, so rides like TTD and MF doesnt really appeal to me like a ride like Mindbender,Kumba, etc., does.
peteb Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Kingda Ka cost SFGADV 25 million which is at least what it will cost to equal or better that; I'm sure it's a money pit with all the maintenance costs, downtime, and energy it takes to run it. Nobody has that kind of money to spend these days and I bet Six Flags wishes they had spent the money on a pile of flat rides and a smaller coaster (or two). It would have improved the park over the long term, not just for the bragging rights the year it opens.

FlyingScooter Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38635 Â Carrying over from this thread, as Ted suggested. Â What would a 500 ft coaster be called: A PITACOASTER, (PITA being short for Pain in the A$$, for the massive maintenance issues it would encounter.)
Coaster Sim. Fan Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 As for KK remember GRADV is one of the biggest parks in America and is a SF park that more then pays for its self and help pays for other parks. Â Kind of like how CP helps pay for the CF chain. Â Something tells me you wont be seeing a ride like that at a smaller park like Carowinds (not that it is a small park but its not a gradv or cp) KI is big but I cant see CF allowing a park so close to them that they also own to have a coaster bigger then at CP.

It also has to do with being a knee jerk reaction after Cedar Point announced Top Thrill Dragster.  If SF would have waited and seen the problems associated with such rides they probably wouldn't have built it.
imbordisux Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 ^ To be fair, while a smaller coaster might have run better, there's no denying that KK has been responsible for a large share of admission tickets purchased. Â As for whether or not any parks will ever build another full-circuit 300-footer, I think that a lot of it has to do with what impact that kind of investment will actually have. Other than the size of the lift, there's really no real difference between a Giga and a Hyper, the only real reasons to build one would be either a) bragging rights, or b) to look good, specifically in ad-campaigns; since we're already in the era of 400-footers, the bragging rights are gone (unless you're talking outside of the U.S., like "Tallest in Canada" or something), and visually, you can attain the same affect with a coaster that's 50 to 100 feet shorter. Â With camera-angles, artists' renderings, and placement next to smaller rides, you can attain the same "wow" factor from the public without having to spend the extra money. I mean, you look at the lift of a B&M or Intamin Hyper, it's pretty damn big, there's no reason to throw around extra money when the majority of people coming to ride are already impressed. Â That's in addition to the obvious problem of most parks just not having the money or room in the first place, of course.
kewlcoasterdude Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I will bet anyone a million dollars there will be another 300ft coaster. LOL This question should be revised to when another 300 fotter will be built.
KingOfNynex2003 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Well I would love it if somebody would make another 300-footer even though the tallest full circuit coaster I've been on is Goliath at MM I would love to see Canada make a 300-footer because the tallest in Canada as of next year will be Behemoth and that's shorter than Goliath is. I'd love to see Playland in Vancouver get a Giga or even a Hyper get put in there because the tallest coaster they have over there is The Coaster and that's only 75 feet tall. Now don't get me wrong I absolutely love that coaster but the other one the Corkscrew (I'll give you one guess who made that ride) has to go because even when I go in the summer the line-ups are never that long for it and I've only seen about 3% of people who go on it early in the day go on it again later in the day and most people have said that if they got rid of it pretty much nobody would miss it.

It doesn't matter how tall Behemoth is, it has to be better than Goliath. Despite being about 20ft shorter it will be about 100% better.
verticalzero Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I think we will see a new 300ft high coaster appearing in the near future, depends if a Park wants to spend $30+ million on a single ride. There are only a few parks in the world who can budget for that amount. Â I want to see more taller and bigger woodies appearing esp in England, someone has to break the "Beast's" record of being the longest in the world.
ginzo Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I want to see more taller and bigger woodies appearing esp in England, someone has to break the "Beast's" record of being the longest in the world. Â You know I'm starting to really dislike big woodies, unless they're Intamin woodies. All of my favorite woodies, except ET, are under 100 feet. Phoenix, Avalanche, Cornball Express, Raven, Thunderbolt, etc. Giant woodies just get jacked up quicker.
Carnage Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I want to see more taller and bigger woodies appearing esp in England, someone has to break the "Beast's" record of being the longest in the world. Â Why? Â Taller does not mean better for wooden coasters. Quite the opposite in fact.
dr.gumbo Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 I want to see more taller and bigger woodies appearing esp in England, someone has to break the "Beast's" record of being the longest in the world. Â Thats most likely not going to happen (since England hates anything tall), but I would love to see a park get a woodie like Raven or something simular. Lightwater valley could have one as a replacement for the Ultimate if the rumors are true but I'd be gob-smacked if it did happen, speaking about the Ultimate, isn't that longer than the beast (even if its steel, it doesn't really matter as its designed to the style of a woodie). Â Onto the question; yes, it proberbly will happen!
Electerik Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 ^^ I'm inclined to agree. Me, I'd rather see more rides like Cornball Express. Â On the other hand, I do have to admit that most of my favorite steel coasters are on the rather large side. Â Â Electerik Director of Dichotomies

Yes, it is, but so are a few other steel coasters as well. The Beast is the longest woodie in the world, not the longest coaster, period.  Regarding the question, yes, of course another one will eventually be built. The real question is how soon?
coaster05 Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 ^You live in Pittsburgh and you are not going to their fear fest. I am 6 hours away and will be there this year.
FeelTheFORCE Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 ^ I am currently 50 minutes away from Pittsburgh, at Slippery Rock University, and I have no time to go to fear fest due to schoolwork and such.
