Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

There would've been teasing and land clearing a while ago if it was a coaster. I'm pretty sure it's a water park expansion or another small addition.

I'm leaning towards a water park addition too. A lot of people are speculating that KBF Tornado could be destined for either CP or Carowinds, but there is the possibility of it coming to Canadas Wonderland. Granted, I am not aware if there already is one there or not.

There's not a large single funnel slide there. There's not even a drop slide at the water park.

Sadly I agree. Seems like the economy is just not where it needs to be and they are going to ride things out until it is. Which is fine because it is still a great park. I just hope its not 10 years before the next good coaster.

At least it's not like Darien Lake. We haven't received any sort of *major* Rollercoaster in 17 years! DL fanboys are dying for a new one!

^What does this have to do with Darien Lake or Wonderland? Wonderland is busy because it's a city park that had new attractions added in order to bring their attractions in line with other comparative Cedar Fair parks, like Cedar Fair did when they had Morgan add hyper coasters to all of the parks in their first round of park acquisitions. Darien is a destination park and the only one in their market so are really resting on their laurels, like Wonderland did under Paramount. In order to build attendance, they need to add attractions to up the number of people coming for camping and hotel stays. Darien expanded their waterpark, kids area and spent on general park maintenance and appearance most recently. Also, they had to deal with the RoS accident. The recent changes in management and ownership haven't helped any with respect to developing a stable plan and adding a large attraction, which they need to do to bump up attendance, if they want to of course. Maybe stable management/ ownership and a stronger dollar will help them score a new coaster finally.

I think we lost our place in the rotation of big rides and being the test park behind Kings Island. Guess we are no longer the 'crown jewel'.

They got Diamondback and Banshee the years after Behemoth and Levi but they are getting a new coaster before us now.

Still makes me sad to see the old Skyrider plot completely empty. That great ride is still making riders happy in Italy - I wish they waited to remove it.

^But Darien Lake does not have the highest attendance for seasonal park.

For some strange reason I don't think Darien Lake is trying to achieve that goal as I see them as small-medium sized park. I am sure Darien Lake will get a new coaster once the ownership of the park gets settled. I haven't been but, it seems like Premier Parks knows what they're doing but, since the park is owned the CNL Lifestyle Properties still, Premier Parks can't add anything.

Well, Canada's Wonderland is the most attended seasonal park in North America. But, I am sure that Darien Lake's attendance has been growing over the past few years especially since that they have been advertising their campground like crazy as many people are into camping and amusement parks. Any expansion for Darien Lake is good but, I don't see Darien Lake becoming as huge (in attendance) as Canada's Wonderland is now even if Darien Lake adds many large additions in the next ten years.

I wish that anyone who line jumps would realize that it only slows things down for everyone else. I know they wouldn't like it if someone else did it so, why should they do it?

Don't be naive, John. These are the types of people who don't care about how their actions effect anyone else in or out of an amusement park. I see it everywhere from time to time. I know how people are and I try not to let it bother me, especially on days set aside for enjoyment.

Maybe it's just my interpretation, but you sound like you're taking this way too personally. The last exciting steel coaster added to my home park was Mr. Freeze in 1999... Ease up and go take some laps on Leviathan, brother.

Not taking it personal stating a fact - at the Levi Bash the park reps confirmed a rotation for cap ex spending amongst the larger CF parks in sequence and to expect a major ride apox. every five years. The building of a big ride was heavily inferred by the park as the reason for removing the togo stand-up. That ride looks to have been pushed back at least two years if not cancelled.

Now as is speculated above the change in the exchange rate (about 30%) probably changed the cap ex plans. That 'crown jewel' comment came from CF management who was shocked to see how profitable CW was a few years back after opening Behemoth. I think in one year it even had the largest attendance of any seasonal park. But again profits were inflated by the dollar being near par.

I acknowledge that these people don't care about what they're doing and how it affects others. I deal with these kinds of people all the time whether I'm at college or Canada's Wonderland. I'm just tired of how many people think it's acceptable to line jump. But, I do have one success story to share of a line jumping case when I had visited again last Thursday. My brother and I were in line for Timberwolf Falls and the regular line (that we were in) and the Fast Lane line were both moving slowly. The reason as to why they were both moving slowly is because a family with their kids thought it would be okay to line up in the Fast Lane and skip the regular line even though they didn't have Fast Lane wristbands. The ride attendant kept on telling them to leave but they wouldn't. So this went on for a little over 10 minutes. The funny thing about this was that the family was claiming that there was no set rule as to who could use the Fast Lane. To everyone else it was obvious that you needed Fast Lane in order to use that line. After becoming quite frustrated, the ride attendant called security. But, before security had arrived, the family quickly ran out of the line and off into the park. But, the main thing is that they were denied to ride Timberwolf Falls based on their actions and behaviour. I just wish that the park would crack down on more such cases. Also, all my visits to Canada's Wonderland so far this season have been very fun despite the line jumping.

LOL. So Fastlane is now on the socialism program, eh? That's pretty funny. I would have taken the opportunity to make countless loud Bernie Sanders jokes at that time... because that's the kind of jackass I am.

This is an actual picture from the last time I went to CW, and the line jumping was SO bad all day! By the time we got to the end of the day, we'd given up expecting it would ever be addressed by staff...

My take on the park's attitude towards Line Jumping.

HAUNT is coming very very soon. What do you guys think we will see this season?

My maze predictions are that we will see Terror of London removed leaving:

Spirit Manor

Club Blood

Scifi House

Louisiana Scream

The Ruins

Asylum

Streets of the Undead

Bloodshed

And maybe a few new mazes? I'd want to see a hotel or a doll factory. All would be pretty sweet.

What do you guys think?

I'd like to see higher quality in the mazes, last year I wasn't that impressed. They need to be more immersive and the actors really need to work on their scare game. I'm hoping that Club Blood, Terror of London, and Streets of the Undead are retired. I'd love to see improvements on the Asylum, and Sci-Fi house I found them poorer last year then years before. For new mazes I'd love to the return of Slaughter Mill, or Miner's Revenge. I'd also like to see them add a Doll Factory type maze and something original. I hope they improve their scare zones and I hope they extend the Haunt schedule to start it in September.

EDIT: I hope they make the night longer too.

I have really low expectations for Haunt this year as the last few years have really been 'same-old-same-old'.

WonderlandFan, forget about scarezones. They haven't had good scarezones for a few years now. Last year they had zero scarezones. Expect more permanent mazes like the ones inside the mountain and the new manor maze last year, as these mazes cost nothing to set up.

I couldn't see them removing Club Blood in all honesty (unfortunately). Club Blood seems to be a Halloween Haunt staple to Wonderland along with Cornstalkers and Asylum. I couldn't see them removing any of these. I hope we see Streets and Terror of London gone as well.

Unfortunately, I think Club Blood will stay. Streets is a good maze but it's getting old now eh.

EDIT: Haunt starts on September 30, it will actually start early this year!!!

I just came to a rather depressing realization: Canada's Wonderland and Michigan's Adventure are the only two CF parks to not tease or announce a single thing for next year. Dorney, World of Fun, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, California Great Adveture, Knotts, Carowinds, Cedar Point and even Valleyfair have all done some kind of announcement or teasing for a new attraction next year. Some of those are for the park's sister water park though, but it was teased as an announced through the main park. I didn't include CF's water parks because of that.
