The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Recommended Posts

Has anyone heard anything more about the 200 foot tall S&S El Loco coaster possibly coming to the west coast as mentioned by the S&S rep at WCB earlier this year? There was a little chatter about it at the time, but nothing since as far I'm aware.

Well...it was rumored that SFMM would be working with S&S for two more attractions in the near future. As read in the Knott's thread, it is speculated that Log Peeler is on it's way out with a relocation of the ferris wheel. With Playhouse gone that frees up just enough space for-you guessed it, another 30 second coaster!

The news from Shapiro is that we'll be seeing another new coaster at SFMM in 2010.

I'm making a humble prediction: that either the 2010 SFMM coaster, or the 2010 Knott's project will be the West Coast El Loco model we've been hearing about!

And the other one will be a Chinese B&M Dive Machine knock-off!

Hey, an "El Loco" would fit nicely in Flashback's old spot.

I know what carowinds is getting in 2009 but I have heard rumers

about a log ride leaving at the end of next year...... could this mean

a big addition

The flume will be leaving the park next year, but this has nothing to do with the 2010 rumor.

The big thing for 2010 would be a B&M hyper coaster that will be located near the parking.

I'm gonna bet you that Cedar Point's next coaster is gonna be the planned GCI from CGA. Hey, if they moved XLC to KD, then theres a chance that they'll move another planned ride to the east

-Matthew.K

Yeah but moving XLC to KD from then PGA was a Paramount decision, not a CF one. They only did so because they opted out of the 01 flyer from vekoma & gave it to SFA instead.

Guess what I heard? Kennywood may get rid of the Pitt Fall in 2010.

Even though this is highly unlikely, (I give it about a 5% chance of being true) it does make some sense. The Pitt Fall's popularity has been steadily declining over the years and, according to some employees, it's become a maintenance headache.

I'll be sure to ride it as much as I can this summer, you know, just to be safe.

That sucks, I love the Pitt Fall. Now that you mention it, though, no matter what time of year I go (except Fall Fantasy), the line is never long and there is at least one side that is up at the top not in use.

On another note, I would really like to see Kennywood get an Intamin Mega-Lite like Piraten and Kawasami.

(12/9/08) Carowinds has dropped off a few major news items in the last 24 hours for us. Starting off with the big one, I have a confirmed quote from the park’s PR Manager, Dani Swords that everyone will find very interesting. "Thank you for your concern regarding the 2009 operation of the Wild Thornberry's River Adventure (Log Flume) ride. The log flume ride will be dismantled and cease to operate for the 2009 season to prepare

the site for future attractions." So it’s official… no more log ride, which goes a long way to making some of those 2010 rumors I’ve been hearing (B&M Hyper) more solid.

It's convincing me!

P.S. Quote from Screamscape

Just found more info (dumb me for not posting it earlier)

(12/9/08) For the last couple of weeks I’ve been hearing rumors here and there about a very impressive new coaster project being lined up for Carowinds for the 2010 season. Of course the big item holding these rumors back was that they all involved the removal of the park’s Wild Thornberry’s themed log ride, which has now been confirmed today.

That said, I’ll now share with everyone the basic gist of what I’ve been holding back on, Assuming the poor economy doesn’t kill the project, the rumors indicate that Cedar Fair has a massive B&M Hypercoaster project planned for the park. Placed right in front of the park next to the parking lot, this massive ride would easily become the park’s new signature attraction. In fact one source even claimed that portions of the ride’s layout may even venture out into the parking lot itself on at least one of the layout’s under consideration. While it’s still too far away to consider this project 100% locked in, another source also claims that the park already has a tentative name picked out. As a throwback to one of the park’s most popular former rides, the new coaster may bring back the White Lightnin’ name as well along with a possible marketing campaign based around the concept of lightning striking twice. (ie: “They say lightning never strikes twice… they were wrong.”)

Eh, it's long, but read it!

Wouldn't be as good as the long speculated Hyper, but LZ:TR would be just as good. Plus, With Afterburn being our saving grace, I'll take about anything half-decent.

And not Vekoma or "gently used" coaster, yea, with CF I'm being REALLY picky!

^ Agreed...the park could definitely use a nice hyper. Perhaps something in the 200' range to dominate the skyline at the front of the park. LZ seems like it could possibly be the "economic downturn - must save money" type of move by CF, if it turned out to be available for purchase. Another nice home for LZ could be Michigan's Adventure or Valleyfair.

Another good move would be for Carowinds to take out Hurler and replace it with a revamped Big Dipper from GL. From what I have read in various trip reports, Hurler is just as bad (or worse) as the one at KD. Big Dipper isn't all that big so it would free up some space, plus it is a little airtime demon in the front seat!

Someone needs to find a happy home for that classic!

Airtime demon in front seat?

Only airtime Carowinds has is the ejector air Cyclone has near the front going into the turn after the loops and POSSIBLY the first drop on Thunder Road.

I would welcome it into Carowinds with open arms....

In a perfect world.

Week before opening day 2010: turn Hurler's mechanics into scrap metal

Opening day 2010: Drench Hurler with gas, throw a match on it, and sing Kum-bi-ya, and open a Hyper for business in the log flumes place.

Summer 2010: Watch them build Big Dipper.

^ Hehe...that could be a plan!

Yes, I was so surprised by Big Dipper and to think when I visited the park before it closed, I was actually thinking about not riding it. Well, there was no wait and I got on the front and was amazed that I was being heaved out of my seat on almost every hill and actually had to hang on a couple of times! Unless I happened to hit it on a day when it was running really good, I was completely amazed with this little coaster! I would definitely say that it was the highlight of my day at GL (other than Dominator).

So I know we've all heard the rumors a few years back about Valleyfair getting a B&M invert or floorless but instead they put in Renegade. Now I'm not sure if this is already a topic i tried searching for it but found nothing so here it goes.

This is what i found on Screamscape,

"2010 - New B&M Coaster - Rumor - (6/24/08) Its been a great week for rumors so far and this next one is sure to please the Valleyfair crowd if it comes true. Look for a new steel B&M creation to make a hard landing near the front of the park in 2009 or more likely in 2010. We don’t know the exact design, but it seems likely that your feet will hang, so either a Floorless or Inverted are most likely, but don’t expect to see a Dive Machine."

I highly doubt these are true seeing as how they are expanding the water park for the 2009 season already. But I was just curious if anyone else had any information.

I heard that SheiKra at BGA has the world record for most cell phones destroyed by a roller coaster in one year.

Did you hear that from an SheiKra Opp.? They tell people things like that to scare people into putting their stuff in a secure place.

I remember at Gadv for a month one Kingda Ka Opp carried around this completely smashed phone telling people "this is what Kingda Ka does to cellphones"
