beatle11 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 ^And Boudreau would likely be fired if that happened. Why would we fire a coach who has won the Jack Adams award and has one of the highest winning percentages of any coach in the league over the last 4 years? If they can't get by the first round of the playoffs, then something might happen. Regular season doesn't matter if you can't get anywhere in the playoffs. You could make the same case for Alain Vigneault and the Canucks. The expectations on those teams are too high. Especially for Vancouver. Edit: Good start for the Caps. I love OT in the playoffs! Canucks got a good start too.
Yamez Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 My "Coach of the Year" is always the Stanley Cup winning coach. Eh, I think that's a skewed way to look at it. Anyone else going to a play off game this evening? I'll be at Verizon Center, hoping the Caps can make it a 2-0 series!
FeelTheFORCE Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Anyone else going to a play off game this evening? I'll be at Verizon Center, hoping the Caps can make it a 2-0 series! I am! I'll be at Consol Energy Center for the Pens game Fri night.
Top Thrill Dragster Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 I'll be at Staples Center on Tuesday.
Jew Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) I'll be there Tuesday and Thursday. And just for good measure, the Laker game on Wednesday too! Hopefully the Kings won't give up 21 takeaways again! It would be nice if Dustin Penner could actually show up too. Edited April 15, 2011 by Jew
BeemerBoy Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 My "Coach of the Year" is always the Stanley Cup winning coach. Eh, I think that's a skewed way to look at it. Not if you don't put much stock in post season awards; especially in a position as unstable as Head Coach.
imawesome1124 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Nice for Neuvy to get the shutout. And it's nice to go into New York with a 2-0 series lead. This was a crucial game for us as it would really be a confidence booster to win it. The next two games are probably going to be really nasty, especially if we score early.
beatle11 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 ^They are a completely different team than last year. Good for them. Hopefully they can keep it going.
Philrad71 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Big win for the Sabres the other night. Definitely need to keep up the good defensive work/goaltending and get more offensive chances. Flyers fans turned on their team near the end of the game....it would be nice to score early and turn them against their team again. 2-0 going back to B-lo would be sweet, but they need to remain focused and never forget that this is a team that roared back after being down 3-0 to the Bruins to reach the Finals last year.
imawesome1124 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Man, it's a shame Phoenix couldn't pull off that comeback. Detroit had a 4-0 lead and they almost blew it. I would have loved to see Phoenix rally back and win because I HATE Detroit.
chemical_echo Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Personally, I can't wait to see Phoenix out of the playoffs. Mostly because I've read and heard a few sources now saying that as soon as the Coyotes are out they JETting back to Winnipeg.
beatle11 Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 ^I hope Winnipeg, or Quebec, or any other Canadian city gets a team. Bettman has never worked so hard to save a Canadian team. On another note, Boston is gonna be swept at this rate. They gotta win both games at the Bell Centre if they want a chance now, and winning at the Bell Centre is extremely difficult if your the road team. Oh, and Boston has now lost 6 straight playoff games dating back to their collapse last year and have never won a series after trailing 2-0.
Top Thrill Dragster Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Outstanding game by the Kings in San Jose tonight. 4-0 Kings. Easily the best game of the season and Drew Doughty was a force to be reckoned with tonight.
beatle11 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Timmy Brent!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctPJSxo-bzg
Philrad71 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Tough loss for the Sabres last night...too many undisciplined penalties did them in during the 2nd period. They have to stop that or it's going to kill them in this series. Eight in one period? Ridiculous! Granted, they killed off all but one during that period, but that is still totally uncalled for. You CAN'T win games by taking that many dumb penalties whilst keeping your main goal scorers off the ice. After all is said and done though, I still like where we sit after two games. We took one in their building, lost a close one and now need to take both games at home. We're definitely in better shape than Boston! Speaking of Winnipeg, I'm going to be there on business this week so I'm hoping to be able to find a nice sports bar so I can watch the games on Monday & Wednesday. I'm sure they're still an avid hockey town and I'll bet they're foaming at the mouth to get their team back!
imawesome1124 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Looks like the refs are trying to make it interesting. They were obviously trying to help New York win to extend the series. If the Caps are the championship team that people are saying, we can play through it though.
tdub96 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 ^Did you forget the dissallowed Rangers goal?! I dont know how you can say that refs favor one team over another, especially in the playoffs. The Rangers just played a great game and deserved to win.
imawesome1124 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 ^Did you forget the dissallowed Rangers goal?! I dont know how you can say that refs favor one team over another, especially in the playoffs. The Rangers just played a great game and deserved to win. The refs do it all the time. The NHL is a business and the refs try to make it more exciting to make more money. The refs have taken several series from us, like the one against Tampa in 2004. And how can you say the Rangers played a great game when they were committing BLATANT penalties like charging full speed into our goalie and not getting called. And taking down Ovi TWICE when he didn't have the puck and not getting called. Plus the refs were literally calling us for TAPS when we didn't even get the Rangers off the puck. The refs have ALWAYS, for 36 years, tried to make the Caps lose. If you watched every game honestly and impartially, you would see that the Caps get called for the most ridiculous things and the other team gets away with tons of crap. We were getting called for things every other team would get away with any game. But if the Caps are as good as we think they are, they will be able to play through this.
tdub96 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I do watch the games impartially. I have nothing against the Caps and i hate the Rangers, so this one was impartial for me. And still, I can't see how the refs gave the game to New York.
Carnage Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 The refs have ALWAYS, for 36 years, tried to make the Caps lose. How can you claim that the refs were against them during the 20+ years before you were born? There's no conspiracy against the Caps, and it's not the refs fault every time a game doesn't go your way.
imawesome1124 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Oh yes there is. My dad has been a hockey fan since he was about 3 and he knows that the refs help the other team. The refs help some teams win the Stanley Cup to increase the fanbase in the area. The Caps didn't like that idea, they said that they wanted to win honestly, not with the refs help, and it backfired. You can't say "there is no conspiracy against the Caps" because you aren't a Caps fan. If you have watched every Caps game you would see the BS calls and noncalls that we get. Like when Chimera was skating with the puck and a guy swats his face drawing blood, 5 FEET FROM THE REF! NO F***ING CALL!! Chimera got high sticked 3 times in a period of about 5 minutes and none of them got called, and he had the puck all 3 times, so the other guy WAS NOT playing the puck. And against the Senators, Bradley threw a huge open ice hit, shoulder-to-shoulder, perfectly clean, 7 feet from the boards and the guy slides on the ice and hits the boards. Bradley gets called for boarding and gets jumped, and the guy who jumped him doesn't even get an instigator. Bradley DID NOT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM hit him into the boards, he hit him from the side from in front of the net and he slid into the boards. It was not from behind, or directly into the boards. Later in that game, they allow a Senators goal when they HEAVILY interfered with our goalie. Also someone cross-checked Hendricks in the head and didn't even get a penalty, when explaining it to Boudreau they said that they thought a skate cut him. How can a skate get that high on Hendricks, when the guy didn't even come off the ice. The refs made us lose that game. Or like in the 2008 playoffs against the Flyers, one of their players SITS ON OUR GOALIE on they score and the refs allow it, in game 7 in OT. Hmm... seems like they wanted the Flyers to win that series.
beatle11 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 ^And Kerry Fraser may have cost the leafs the cup in 93. Crap happens, to every team. Sometimes it may seem more so than others but the refs aren't perfect.
djbrcace1234 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Seriously, we get it. The fact that the Capitals now consistently win games with these so called penalties isn't helping with your statement at all. Any fan that has a bias lens with their team falls into this hole of ignorance. Every team at some point falls into this mess. Look at the Ducks when they won the cup. They were the most penalized team in the league and they still won. It's all about grit, and the Capitals seem to lose their edge as soon as they make it into the playoffs, much like Vancouver, San Jose, Boston, and many other consistent playoff entry teams seem to have. Edited April 19, 2011 by djbrcace1234
BeemerBoy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 imawesome1124, I'm gonna say this in the nicest possible way, and I'm sure I speak for every hockey fan in here. Shut up. Please. My favorite team hasn't won the Cup since I've been alive. You know who I blame for that? MY FAVORITE TEAM. End of story. You should consider the same train of thought.
ernierocker Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 ^And with that let's please move on. There is plenty to talk about in this thread right now with the playoffs going on, so we really do not need to keep discussing how the refs are bias against your favorite team. It's called having fan goggles on.
