arrowfanman Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Hey everybody! Ok, so get this. You know those people who go on Dr. Phil because they have a problem with throwing stuff away? I am one of those people. A mild case...but a case. The other day I entered my Dejavu-blue room, lathered in a layer of aging park maps, theme park crap, and other momentos of my teenage years, and thought to myself: "Jahan...you need to throw away all of this useless crap. It's time you grow up and reflect that in the room you surround yourself with!" But I'm not just talking about a glorified version of "cleaning your room". I'm talking about getting new furniture, paint...the whole package. Pimp my room, if you will. But I'm not about to simply "hide" the fact I love theme parks. I am going to look for a nicer, far more subtle way to reflect that than to simply plaster my wall in ageing brochures and maps and whatnot. So that's the theme of my remodel. I also want to change the color of my room to something "brighter" and get some improved lighting. Too often it's 3:00 AM and I'm writing a paper and my brain keeps farting out because of the claustrophobic feel of my room. I also need to say this. Traditionally, when I was younger and would go up to "clean my room", doing so consisted of stuffing all of the crap into random drawers and cabinets. Once that stuff filled up, I would find new places to store crap! So the truth of the matter, is I have quite a bit of "artifacts" from my childhood, lying around my room. Perhaps it may seem weird to you that I haven't opened my desk-drawers in over 5 years, but that's the way it is....I've learned to avoid them. So trust me, this remodel is really not just an aesthetic change, a living-conditions change, but is rooted down in me...if you will, it's the point in which I will now throw out my childhood to make room for adulthood. So I hope you enjoy running into the geeky, pathetic, hysterical objects that have come from my childhood. And I shouldn't have to say this, but I always get a pesky comment, so a disclaimer to all of you old farts: I damn well know that I may have been a very lucky kid--but don't think that I ever take it for granted, for one moment. So without further adieu....the "cleaning" phase of my room-remodel! -Jahan I will leave you with this...potential color choices. Light grey-blue walls, with one red wall, and mustard-yellow accents. Only problem is this still sort of feels 'childish', so I'm still searching for the right colors! It's got to be bright!--but still Ok, DONE! It might still look messy, but it's not worth putting some stuff away until I get the new pieces and paint! By the way...I topped 10 bags of trash. "I like small boys in tights." Yea, this doesn't look safe! BTW...it's always interesting when you find "naughty stashes" that you've forgotten about. =D Anyone want a Bible? I've got about 5 of them! Gideons usually camped out in front of my high-school. Two, now torn down, historical-German things! Ok, so new desk is in, floor is clean...now it's just about putting away everything I decided to keep! Anybody want it? Hi Cameron! ...Oh! Over there! Ok, I'm making steady progress! New desk is almost in place! Where did all that crap go, anyway? Holy Crap! The oldest artifact, dating back to a school project in the 2nd grade! I guess since it lied flat on the shelf, I never thought to remove it. The REAL reason I'm doing this. Score! I'm getting me a Wii! =D Yay! This is actually from before I met Robb and Elissa!...I won 'viewers choice' in the Pic N' Mix contest. I'll keep these in a safe place. Uh oh! Found the old 'trophy collection'...I hope this isn't a sign! =( Woohoo! Respect the classics, man! Holy crap! This doesn't look like fun! I found the stud! What?! Too much? What was it...trying too hard? Ok, I'll cut it out. Hi Joey! It used to be sooo crowded up there! I'm making progress! Ok, so by this point, I am totally making progress! Removed the desk, 4 bags of trash, etc... Do I even have to say the joke? =D 0__0 ...I have no clue how that's sticking to the wall! I found the nice letter and pin that Mark Shapiro sent me. Yea, the pin broke, killing the letter itself. Lol! You have GOT to be kidding me! I dont even know where it came from! *sigh* I told you those little bastards are creepy! I swear to God I found them like that! I was one f***ed up kid!! This "chest" contained artifacts which dated back a decade! Dont know why I held onto them! Why the HELL did I make a zamboni-themed medieval shield in Jr. High metal shop?! Sorry, this one's for Robb and Elissa. I was QUITE the artist back then! Beat THAT Flipdude! Hah! This is from the "scale model" project in the 7th grade!...twice the size of the normal box! The start! Ok, I swear to God this isn't how my room looks! This is just how it looked after I dumped everything from inside of my closet, onto the floor.
sixflagsmagicmountain Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Nice Jahan, looks like lots of work As for room colors, you want bright? how about Tatsu support column orange. ooh, I want the ride department handbook thing. I want it I want it I want it
Mr.Six Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 That "Hi Joey" picture is awesome! I remember clearing my room for the move I made over early summer, so yeah, I feel ya. I'm sure I still have my operations handbook around somewhere. As for the colors, I'd probably go with the light blue, just because its the most settle. Good luck with the rest of your room, may the force be with you as venture on. _six
Homer Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Wow Jahan, you are an even lazier person than I am!
Golfie Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I re-did my room two summers ago. My walls have a bluish-grey paint which go well with my already tan carpet. I also added a brown bench and a nice rug. Maybe I can take a picture later... Andrew "It's all about the color coordination!" C.
Masked_Maverick Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Thanks Jahan you have actually inspired me to re-arange my apartment especially my room which hasn't been redone in 2 years.
ebl Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Scambler? Was that a typo or an intentional "mistake?" Anyway, I enjoyed your report and I like the color of your room. A friend of mine had sort of a Deja Vu color scheme in his room back in the '70s. The walls were Deja's track color, and the trim was like your blue. That was...different. Eric
Wes Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 The other day I entered my Dejavu-blue room, lathered in a layer of aging park maps, theme park crap, and other momentos of my teenage years, and thought to myself: "Jahan...you need to throw away all of this useless crap. It's time you grow up and reflect that in the room you surround yourself with!" So what you're saying is you're trying to make your room more welcoming to Laura.
Mr.Six Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 ^ Well, he does have a Laura countdown on his white board in one of his pics. _six
Primogen18 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 nice job... I re-did part of my room on Christmas since I got a new TV stand which is an actual TV stand. My TV used to sit on a very old crappy lookin end table thing which had a cabinet which due to the weight of the TV had been unaccessable for quite some time. Inside I found 10 home-made labeled VHS tapes recorded fully with Scooby Doo cartoons (a couple full series and episodes from other series) as well as an episode guide jotted down on notebook paper. I also found $6, Ace Ventura Pet Detective (never knew I had that...) Xmas lights (used to decorate my room for Xmas) and a few packs of wrigly's gum... But yeah nice progress so far, good luck.
Spookbaby Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 OMFG that was awesome! Couple of things though: 1) I LOVE the countdown till my return to Socal... but, you should have a huge calendar dedicated to counting down the days until you get to share a hotel room with me! 2) Keep the penguin poster! Hang it up so that the giant 42" penguin that I'm strapping to a kick board and sending you COD for your birthday can have some company! 3) Shame on you for neglecting you "naughty stashes!" I proudly know where all of mine are! 4) I actually quite like the color of your room. Although, the new color scheme you contemplating interests me. I don't know if all the color contrast would be good or make it look to busy. Also, the fact that the three colors you're choosing are the "primary colors" your room might give me a 2nd grade art class flashback! 5) I think you should bolt your bed to the floor. You get better leverage. I thinks that's it... great PTR and I can't wait to see the finished product!
Cameron Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Jahan, want to come over? My place is full of crap too, you can clean it all out. I'll even let you keep all money you find Oh and thanks for the awesome photo of Australia! Can you pinpoint where I'm from? Cameron.
ebl Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 ^ Wow! Those satellite cameras take great closeups---you can see a person's face! Eric
vjgx Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 That was awesome!Yeah, that pretty much sums up this thread. Nice room and stuff...
J man Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Wow. That's a lot of stuff. I thinking I'm probably gonna have to do that to my room here sometime soon.
GMAN962 Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I might want that ride manual. Nice! EDIT: Ok! The pictures are working now. Nice job, it's always annoying to clean out your room, but you feel so great when you're finished....then it gets bad soon after that.... Nice laptop, by the way. I'm hoping to get a Macbook pro, but it'll be a while intil I have enough money for that. I think you should just paint your room white, or an off-white. Whatever you choose, that's your decision. Have fun with the Wii if you get one! OK! ANOTHER EDIT!: As for the bibles, those same guys came to our school...There's no way to avoid them, too! They get all of the exits.....I think. ~Mike "Keep the two dollar bill, it could be worth more than 2 dollars one day" J
Hattuchili Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Wow, that is a real good PTR. Your room looked really bad and all the theme park stuff there! When I look to my room here then I also have to decide soon what I want to take with me to my new apartment! Anyway, I am looking forward to more pictures! --Soren
tngdiablo Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Nice pictures. That's actually quite a lot of money that you found. I wish I could find that in my room, I'm kinda broke. Hmmm...maybe I should do my own TR of re-arranging my room. Interesting, tis a new semester and I need to make some changes so yeah. I'll make sure to take some pictures.
arrowfanman Posted January 12, 2007 Author Posted January 12, 2007 Wow! Thanks for all of the great responses guys! Eric, I wore that SFMM badge for 7 months and NEVER noticed that "Scambler" thing! Nice call! -Jahan P.S. Does anybody have tips for bolting a bed to the floor?
GMAN962 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 ^Bolting a bed to the floor..... I've never done this, but this is what I'd think you'd have to do. Look at the legs for your bed. If they're on wheels, you're probably able to take them off. There might be a hole to put a screw, or bolt, or something. You just bolt them like that on all corners. I think.... Now remember, I did say that I've never done this, so I'd consult a professional like at Home Depot. Good luck! ~Mike
